Ratings way down for NFL opener. Too many Colin KaeperClones I'd say.

Political Cartoons by Steve Kelley

NBC Sports  "The NFL’s opening Thursday night game got disappointing TV ratings for a league that is battling perceptions of rapidly declining popularity.

"NBC announced a 13.4 overnight rating for the Super Bowl champion Eagles’ last-second win over the Falcons.

"That was way down from the 14.6 for Chiefs-Patriots last year, which itself was way down 4:13 This from a 16.5 for Panthers-Broncos the year before, which itself was way down from a 17.7 for Steelers-Patriots the year before that.

"Are there extenuating circumstances? Sure. Kickoff was delayed by almost an hour because of thunderstorms in Philadelphia, and the game was a sloppy, penalty-filled mess.

"But there are only so many times that the NFL can spin its ratings decline as being the result of extenuating circumstances. Whatever the reasons, the league’s television ratings are not the juggernaut they once were. The NFL still gets national television ratings that any other sport (or, for that matter, any entertainment program) would kill for, but it no longer gets the kinds of television ratings it got a few years back." . . .

Nike decides a Colin Kaepernick deal is worth the backlash  . . . "The fallout was no surprise, but Nike may be betting that the upside of a Kaepernick endorsement is worth angering conservative Americans and supporters of President Donald Trump. Kaepernick -- who sparked a movement among professional athletes when he began taking a knee in 2016 during the anthem to protest police brutality against African Americans -- is embroiled in a lawsuit against the National Football League and accuses it of blacklisting him.
"Still, with the former 49er one of the most popular football players in the U.S. the shoe giant is likely counting on passions to cool." . . .

Transgender Model Mia Isabella Confirms Colin Kaepernick Relationship; 49ers Quarterback Remains Silent   "Transgender model Mia Isabella, who was involved in the reputed Tyga and Kylie Jenner cheating scandal, said she and San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick were once in a romantic relationship.. . .
"Isabella finished: “The persecution of Trans women and Trans attracted men is REAL! But I thank him for being there for me when I almost gave up he saved my life.' ”

WIDOW OF FALLEN OFFICER Writes Incredible Letter To Nike: “I want to have a conversation about this hat.”

. . . "Colin Kaepernick has the absolute right to protest anything he damn well pleases. I don’t dispute that for one second. My father, my husband and many, many friends have all served this country and were willing to fight for his right to kneel.
"But that right goes both ways. I also have a right to express my disgust at your decision to portray him as some kind of hero. What, exactly has Colin Kaepernick sacrificed? His multi-million dollar paycheck…? Nope, you already gave him one of those. His reputation?
"No, he’s been fawned over by celebrities and media alike. Funny, Tim Tebow was never called courageous when he knelt." . . .

Colorado Sporting Goods Store To Remove All Nike Products- ‘Colin, You Just Don’t Know What Sacrifice Is’
. . . "A Colorado Springs, Colorado, sporting goods store owner has decided to stop carrying Nike gear in his store in response to Nike’s partnership with former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick."The store, Prime Time Sports, is owned by Stephen Martin who was inspired by the Nike slogan to “just do it,” according to an interview with local KSN News."The store currently has an entire wall, dedicated to Nike gear, and Martin is unsure if his store will be able to stay open without the athletic wear giant’s products.“Pretty sure I won’t survive without them,” Martin said. “I gotta do what I gotta do. I’m just doing it.”[…]"The Prime Time Sports owner isn’t just making this bold move against Nike because of his own experiences. He believes that it’s important to draw attention to who the real heroes are."Martin told the story about his father-in-law, who was a POW and was forced to watch his fellow soldiers be beaten and even killed, and he wasn’t able to intervene.“He said the hardest part for me was watching his fellow soldiers get beat up and killed in front of him and he couldn’t defend them because it would have cost him his life,” Martin said.“So Colin, you don’t know what sacrifice is, you just don’t know what it is, in my opinion.”
