The U.S. Economy Needs Fewer Public School Jobs, Not More

Andrew J. Coulson "Over the past forty years, public school employment has risen 10 times faster than enrollment (see chart). There are only 9 percent more students today, but nearly twice as many public school employees. To prove that rolling back this relentless hiring spree by a few years would hurt student achievement, you’d have to show that all those new employees raised achievement in the first place. That would be hard to do… because it never happened." Andrew J. Coulson is the director of Cato's Center for Educational Freedom.

Hispanics flee Arizona ahead of immigration law

USA Today "Though no one has precise figures, reports from school officials, businesses and individuals indicate worried Hispanics — both legal and illegal — are leaving the state in anticipation of the law, which will go into effect July 29."

On the road to re-Carterizing America

Washington Times "Twice in modern U.S. history, irresponsible foreign policies have invited huge and costly disasters. The isolationism of the 1920s and 30s yielded World War II. And Jimmy Carter's 1970s experiment of putting a happy face on American power (much like we see happening today) wound up with crises in Iran and Afghanistan.
U.S. disengagement from international affairs after the First World War convinced our enemies that we would not resist aggression abroad. That misperception exacted a terrible price among friend and foe alike." ...
"Signs of instability amid a growing perception of American weakness are everywhere. Allies and friends are beginning to hedge their bets, distancing themselves from us:"...

Dems Go All-In On Health Care With New Ad Slamming GOP's Repeal Promise

TPM    "Democrats on Thursday will launch a new 60-second ad on national cable television accusing repeal-happy Republicans of wanting to get rid of health care reform and all its benefits."

How the White House is Making Oil Recovery Harder

Morning Bell "And when the federal government isn’t sapping the initiative and expertise of local governments, it has been preventing foreign governments from helping. Just three days after the Deepwater Horizon explosion, the Dutch government offered to provide ships outfitted with oil-skimming booms and proposed a plan for building sand barriers to protect sensitive marshlands. LA Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) supported the idea, but the Obama administration refused the help. All told, thirteen countries have offered to help us clean up the Gulf, and the Obama administration has turned them all down."....
"According to one Dutch newspaper, European firms could complete the oil spill clean up by themselves in just four months, and three months if they work with the United States, which is much faster than the estimated nine months it would take the Obama administration to go it alone."  Emphasis mine.
Options to plug the BP oil spill available, but Obama ignores them "During the Iraq War, President Bush sent in Red Adair's oil capping company into Kuwait. Red Adair's private company capped 628 sabotaged, booby-trapped, and blown up burning rigs in less than 9 months. Obama has capped exactly 0 oil wells in almost 2 months.  How's that government boot on the throat of BP working out for ya?"

Bid to curb EPA's regulatory clout on climate nears Senate showdown

Washington Times "The resolution, proposed by Sen. Lisa Murkowski, Alaska Republican, would overturn EPA rules scheduled to begin kicking in next year to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions, which many scientists say are a major contributor to global warming."  Alaska senator moves to strip EPA's authority

Can Black Americans Afford Obama?

Walter E. Williams  "Early indications suggest that the Barack Obama presidency might turn out to be similar to the failed presidency of Jimmy Carter. That's bad news for the nation but especially bad news for black Americans. No white presidential candidate had to live down the disgraced presidency of Carter but I'm all too fearful that a future black presidential candidate will find himself carrying the heavy baggage of a failed black president." Dr. Williams serves on the faculty of George Mason University as John M. Olin Distinguished Professor of Economics and is the author of More Liberty Means Less Government: Our Founders Knew This Well.

America 101 with Dean Obama

Victor Davis Hanson "After all, America is not a campus. It has real jobs that are not lifelong sinecures. Americans work summers. There are consequences when rhetoric does not match reality. Outside of Harvard or Columbia, debt has to be paid back and is not called stimulus. We worry about jobs lost, not those in theory created or saved. We don’t blame predecessors for our own ongoing failures. Those who try to kill us are enemies, whose particular grievances we don’t care much to know about. Diversity is lived rather than professed; temporizing is not seen as reflection, but weakness. And something not true is not a mere competing narrative, but a flat-out lie."

Updated: HEAVY WEAPONS FOUND IN THE CARGO OF THE M/S. MAVI MARMARA FLOTILLA VESSEL.

Resistnet "This video shows that during the unloading of the M/S. Mavi Marmara Turkish vessel in the Israeli port of Ashdod, behind the bags of flour were boxes of heavy weapons and ammunition: mortars, artillery shells, bazookas, without counting a trunk where more than one million euros was found intended for Hamas. This video should be widely distributed as evidence of why the IDF Naval commandos were dispatched to intercept the six vessels including the M/S Mavi Marmara." The site is all Hebrew, but the pictures tell the whole story. Hat tip to Ron Gazda, Texas.
Updates:
Mavi Marmara to Israeli Navy: “We’re Helping Arabs Go Against the US, Don’t Forget 9/11 Guys”, 4 June 2010 " In response to a radio transmission by the Israeli Navy warning the Gaza flotilla that they are approaching a naval blockade, passengers of the Mavi Marmara respond, “Shut up, go back to Auschwitz” and “We’re helping Arabs go against the US, don’t forget 9/11″ One taunting voice sounds American to me.
Hollywood Jews Ignore Israel   "In a town where leftism is the orthodoxy and the orthodoxy is good business you want to stick with it,” said author and screenwriter Andrew Klavan. “It’s hard to isolate Hollywood from the left, because in some ways Hollywood is the left.” "

Israel’s Gaza Blockade: It Works

Jonah Goldberg, NRO    "But this is a terrible moment to consider abandoning the blockade. Why? Because it would rightly be seen as giving the organizers and supporters of this seaborne propaganda stunt a victory. It would signal that America can be conned. It would reward Turkey’s outrageous insult to us (a NATO ally) and to Israel, a longtime friend of Turkey. It would undermine Egypt and other Arab governments (including Fatah) that don’t want Iran’s clients in Hamas strengthened (their propaganda notwithstanding). And it would signal that Iran is the most important power in the Middle East."

"There is something terribly horribly wicked when the leader of the free world cannot distinguish between good and evil, barbarity and humanity, bloodlust and self defense.".... "When they finished they took a knife and expanded the wound he already had in his stomach. They cut his ab muscles horizontally and by hand spilled his guts out. "...
