Obama from the Oval

Political Wire "Presidents should use the Oval Office selectively. It has the weight and bearing of the Pope giving a special Mass at the Vatican. It's not the place to announce volunteerism awards. It's not a place for updates. It's a place to announce serious plans."

Dems look to use oil spill in push for carbon caps

Washington Examiner "The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has breathed new life into legislation aimed at putting limits on carbon emissions, with President Obama expected to push Congress to pass a bill that addresses both energy and global warming in a national address."
Fla. Republicans ask Obama to waive Jones Act    "The federal maritime administrator in emergencies can waive the Jones Act that bars foreign ships from carrying cargo and passengers between U.S. ports. "
Brazil To Profit From Obama Drilling Ban  Not only is capital being directed away from the Gulf – at least any American operations – but the rigs and other equipment are going to migrate elsewhere — for years. So, by all means, invest in Brazil. Mr. Obama and his master Mr. Soros thank you.
THE OIL SPILL: THE CRISIS THAT WILL NOT GO TO WASTE "Sorry .. there is no way the federal government, especially a federal government being run by an anti-capitalist incompetent like Barack Obama, should be allowed to order a bunch of people out of their workplaces on the one hand, and then demand that some other private entity cover their salaries while they're not working. This is something that, if it is going to happen at all, happens through legal action."

Beware the lame ducks

The Daily Caller "This year it’s the Democrats who may stuff major controversies into a post-election free-for-all, but Feingold’s principle holds true: Politicians who won’t face the voters ever again–or not for at least two years–have less accountability, especially when they know it’s their last chance before a major power shift."

Mixed-Signal Surge

NRO  "Afghans are masters of hedging their bets, and Pres. Hamid Karzai is hedging his. Who can blame him? After an agonizingly long period of deliberation, President Obama approved an Afghan surge with an expiration date of July 2011 attached. That’s when Obama said we’d “begin the transfer of our forces out of Afghanistan.” For Obama, stuffed full of cautionary tales about LBJ and Vietnam, that was a clever way to limit his commitment and to placate his anti-war base. For the region, it was a disastrous signal communicating a lack of resolve and staying power. It gave the Taliban yet more reason to believe that they can outlast us and Karzai more reason to consider his options if we leave precipitously. In that event, he basically has three choices — get killed, flee the country, or reach a desperation-driven deal with the Taliban and the Pakistanis. He’s showing an understandable inclination toward preparing the ground for the last of these."

Jesus Cartoon

Point of View "You may have heard that Comedy Central is in the process of developing an animated project about Jesus Christ. It is obviously designed to offend Christians. But the question many Christian leaders are asking is whether..."  Kerby Anderson

Democrats “Too Liberal” — Who Knew?

Jennifer Rubin "The president is not only the chief executive but also the head of his party. In addition to sending his own approval skidding downward, Obama has managed to give his party the labels it has struggled so hard to shed — “weak on national security” and “tax-and-spend liberals.” A majority of the electorate was snookered into believing Obama was a moderate pragmatist. They aren’t likely to make that mistake again — and they are likely first to take it out on the Democrats on the ballot this November." Sometimes I fear words like that will make any Republican win short of a landslide look like a liberal moral victory.

A very silly man gives a very sinister speech.

Christopher Hitchens "A hereditary head of state, as Thomas Paine so crisply phrased it, is as absurd a proposition as a hereditary physician or a hereditary astronomer. To this innate absurdity, Prince Charles manages to bring fatuities that are entirely his own. And, as he paged his way through his dreary wad of babble, there must have been some wolfish smiles among his Muslim audience."

Has the President Lost His Bearings?

Pajamas Media  "That Hey Jude sing-along was pretty strong evidence that the president is no longer in touch with reality."....He’s done. Some will call this a premature judgment, I’m certain. But the sad truth is that this handwriting has been on the wall ever since Barack Obama, the not-even-through-his-first-term senator, announced his candidacy with a resume containing little more of substance than a memorable speech from 2004.
"Experience? I don’t need no stinkin’ experience. I’m me.
"Hopefully, the next time a charismatic candidate makes such vainglorious claims, the public will be healthily weary, vigilantly skeptical, and not in a false-god worshiping mood." Emphasis mine

Obama as Nixon. Biden as Jerry Ford. We know how that ended.    "If the failure of President Obama to handle — or even to take serious — the BP oil spill has achieved nothing else, it has allowed certain members of the press to shed their hyper-partisanship and to begin telling it like it is with this Narcissistic president."

Big Labor is humbled by Blanche Lincoln’s win.

Michael Barone  "Lincoln’s victory removes the credibility of the unions’ threat to end the careers of Democrats who don’t do their bidding. The unions rode into Arkansas like Custer rode into Little Big Horn, and unlike Custer they managed to ride out — but without the scalp they were desperately seeking."

Elton John, Egypt, and Rush Limbaugh Reveal Liberal Hypocrisy

Deroy Murdock, NRO  "The moral of this story: Liberals will tread more lightly on a homophobic, concert-canceling Islamic fundamentalist than a conservative broadcaster who recognizes and rewards talent when he hears it, even when that Academy Award–winning musician happens to be gay."
