Victor Davis Hanson: MSNBC Is a ‘Money-Losing Operation’

The Daily Signal

"While Rachel Maddow decries the network for firing Joy Reid and large swaths of news presenters, they conveniently leave out that Reid worked a fraction of the time her Fox counterparts did for a larger salary.

"If Maddow really cares about the recently fired news staff, she’d forgo her $25 million annual salary and give it away, argues Victor Davis Hanson on this edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words.” “  'As far as Joy Reid goes, she had an audience of about 150,000. … Everybody else had no idea what she—who she was or what she was saying. She was getting at $1.3 million dollars. “ Very politically connected people have one rule, one protocol, one value judgment for all of us. And, they have no intention of following it themselves. They’re never subject to the consequences of their ideology. “ 'Do you realize, if you just said, ‘I, Rachel Maddow, tonight promise that I will work my 52 days this year for free, given the ample compensation I have received, and I will fund 250 staffers at MSNBC for $100,000 a year, given what I make, $25 million.’ Let’s just try that.' ”

Canada Liberals vote to replace Trudeau as PM

 MagnifyPost.com

Carney, 59, is attractive because of his “economic experience and his seriousness,” said Stephanie Chouinard, a political scientist at Canada’s Royal Military College.
Chrystia Freeland’s strong association with Justin Trudeau has been
both an asset and a liability in her political journey

"Canada’s Liberal Party elects a new leader this weekend to replace Justin Trudeau as prime minister and take charge of confronting the threats posed by US President Donald Trump. Trudeau, who became Liberal leader in 2013 before taking over as prime minister two years later, announced in early January that he planned to resign, overcome by dismal polling numbers and internal party dissent.

"Before Christmas, the opposition Conservatives looked certain to win a general election that must be held by October but could be called within weeks. Trade chaos with the United States and Trump’s repeated musing about annexing Canada have upended the political climate and surveys show the Liberals gaining ground. “The context is completely unprecedented. Right now the only thing that matters to Canadians is ‘who is the right person to take on Donald Trump?'” Frederic Boily of the University of Alberta told AFP.

"Four candidates qualified to run in the Liberal leadership race but only two are seen as viable contenders. The front-runner is Mark Carney, who led the Bank of Canada before becoming the first non-Briton to serve as governor of the Bank of England. His main challenger is Chrystia Freeland, Trudeau’s former finance minister who dramatically broke with the prime minister in December, issuing a scathing resignation letter that partly pushed him to resign.

"Both Carney and Freeland have anchored their campaigns on the Trump threat. Carney, who has never held elected office, has sought to remind Liberal party voters that he led Canada’s central bank through the 2008-2009 financial crisis and steered the Bank of England through the turbulence that followed the Brexit vote. “Canada faces one of the most serious crises in our history. I know how to manage crises and I know how to build strong economies,” he said during a leadership debate.

"Freeland has warned that Trump “is posing the gravest challenge our country has faced since the Second World War,” and highlighted her experience negotiating directly with Trump’s first administration.

"The winner of the Liberal leadership race will be announced in Ottawa on Sunday. The party says that 400,000 people have signed up to vote and boasted of unprecedented fundraising in recent weeks. Trudeau declined this week to give a precise date for when he would hand over power, telling reporters he would work out transition timelines with the new Liberal leader. When ready, Trudeau and his successor will visit Governor General Mary Simon — King Charles III’s official representative in Canada — who will task the new Liberal chief with forming a government. The date Canadians will head to the polls for a general election remains unclear." ...

Father of woman killed at Nova festival commits suicide after devastating loss

 Jerusalem Post

"Vladislav Bongart had been emotionally and mentally deteriorating after his daughter's murder."

"Sofia Bongart loved red roses. She once told her family: “After I die, make me a white grave and bring me a red rose.”

"She had just completed her military service and was beginning her adult life – a joyful and optimistic young woman. On October 7, she traveled with a close friend to the Nova music festival, where both were murdered.

"Every week, her father, Vladislav, visited her white grave and placed red roses on it. He carried the pain inside, withdrawing and deteriorating. Ten days ago, he ended his life at 48 years old." ...

"Around 9 a.m., Liraz was hit. Sofia was beneath her. The horror continued, and at approximately 11:30 a.m., Sofia made a desperate attempt to escape. She stepped outside – and was shot dead."

While Sophia and her friends were dying this Palestinian celebrated:

'A badge of honor': Released terrorist claims he knew Oct. 7 would end his life sentence   . . ."Zughayer had helped orchestrate the suicide bombing that killed five Israelis and 19-year-old British Jew Yoni Jesner.

"Zughayer was released in January as part of a hostage-ceasefire deal that saw the return of 33 hostages for a pause in fighting and the release of over 1000 security prisoners. The 46-year-old terrorist was released into east Jerusalem, where supporters celebrated the release of terrorists illegally by waving Hamas flags." . . .

UPDATED: "Hunter’s usefulness ended, and so did his source of income." How will he fare in the ugly world?

UPDATED, 3/8:Critics noticed that his paintings stopped selling after Joe Biden left office, coincidentally.

" 'Hunter Biden chose to go into the Joe Biden business. Made millions. When he evaded paying taxes, a new friend who just happened to be a Joe Biden supporter gave him millions in 'loans.' But now Joe Biden is out, nobody's buying the art, and the Biden business has gone bust," said journalist Byron York."

Broc Smith

Hunter Biden’s ‘art’ clients flee now that Joe has left White House  "After 50 years of Hunter Biden profiting off of his father’s power in public office, the younger Biden‘s consistent revenue stream has run dry. In his request to dismiss his lawsuit against a former White House staffer to President Donald Trump over the now-infamous laptop leak, the former first son has confessed that nobody wants to buy access to Joe Biden — er, I mean, the younger Biden’s “artwork” — now that the former president has been exiled from public life." . . .

When Hillary crashed and burned in 2016, her family grift, The Clinton Foundation, took a hard turn toward the ground. It didn’t completely auger in, but the international contributors turned their car around like a John seeing his favorite hooker in cuffs.

With all due respect to the Clinton Grift Machine, Joe Biden and his family have been running their money scam for a lot longer. Sure, it took years for the bagman to come of age, but Hunter Biden filled that role, and the rest was history. I used the past-tense because the grift is over.

Turn out the lights.... the party’s ooooover.

On January 20th, the party ended. The money died up. The grift hit a wall. You can use your own metaphor, but the point being, what happened this week, we knew, was inevitable. Hunter’s usefulness ended, and so did his source of income.

The left pretended that Hunter had some talent. Either as a lawyer or, later, as an “artist.” We were told his paintings were, indeed, worth thousands of dollars – in fact, worth hundreds of thousands; but Hunter’s only talent was running interference for his corrupt pops. When Joe Biden became an afterthought on January 20th, Hunter Biden became irrelevant to the grift machine.

With the money gone, Hunter is in a bit of a “tight” spot. Sure, his corrupt dad pardoned him for crimes he was already convicted of, and for potential crimes yet to be charged with. Hunter won’t end up in prison, but he still has plenty to do in a courtroom.

The former president's son has civil lawsuits still pending. Hunter sued the guy who turned over his laptop. Almost two years ago to the day, Hunter sued the computer repair shop owner. I have to give it to his attorneys. They had some nerve

Democrats’ hatred of Trump is destroying their party

 The Hill

"Others were more restrained but equally undignified, raising little paddles to signal their disapproval, looking for all the world like spoiled children."

Spectator.org

"Democrats did not just lose an election in 2024 — apparently, they lost their minds, too.

"Consider, for instance, how they kicked off Women’s History Month — by voting against protecting women and girls in sports, against guaranteeing them a fair playing field.

"That’s right: Every single Democrat voted down the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, which would prohibit federally funded schools from allowing male transgender athletes to participate in women’s sports.

"It would prevent girls and women from being injured by bigger, stronger biological males. And, just as importantly, it would prevent girls who have worked like crazy to excel in sports from being humiliated by a men dressed like women.

"Take, for example, the basketball game that took place a year ago between two Massachusetts teams — the Collegiate Charter School of Lowell and KIPP Academy in Lynn. A transgender player for KIPP, at six feet tall and sporting facial hair, injured multiple opposing female players, eventually forcing Collegiate to forfeit the game.

"Or consider the gruesome injury sustained by Payton McNabb in a 2022 volleyball match, when a transgender opponent spiked the ball into her head and nearly killed her. Some 79 percent of Americans, including 67 percent of Democrats, favor keeping men out of women’s sports and locker rooms, according to New York Times-Ipsos polling. "

"So why fall on your sword by defeating a bill that so clearly aligns with the preferences of voters?

"This is not the only recent foolish move by Democrats. In anticipation of President Trump’s speech to Congress on Tuesday, 22 senators in the Democratic caucus broadcast videos of themselves all reading the exact same script, which starts with the words, “S— that ain’t true,” mocking Trump’s campaign pledge to bring down prices on Day 1. Conservatives on social media quickly roasted the copycat stunt, and rightly so." . . .

Running Scared: Democrats Routed by a Torrent of Hate

. . ."Even though it should have been easy to identify who should have won, a majority of the nation’s voters dove into the cesspool of self-absorbed and hate-filled racists, misogynists, grifters, corporate lowlife and the like to ensure an outcome reflecting their perspective." . . .

Democrats Have Become What They Claim to Hate | National Review

From comments to this post: "And Biden has brought us closer to WW3. Biden nearly killed our economy. We've become the laughing stock of the world since Biden became president. We now have a new axis of evil; Russia, China, Cuba, Iran, and N. Korea."

Rich Terrell

Not my circus, not my monkey: Kabuki theatre in the nation's capital and beyond    . . ."Green claimed he was standing in support of Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, as if Trump had threatened these.

"As a recipient of two out of three of those, I know that Trump’s promised to exempt Social Security payments from taxation – in effect enhances the dollar value of Social Security by around 25-30 percent.

"He’s also pledged to sustain Medicare and Medicaid, except in cases of profound fraud."

No case of Nancy, with the laughing face   . . ."In the end it did not work because no one likes to watch this nonsense.  There is a time for political debate and a time to cheer a young man who just got accepted to West Point, or a cancer survivor who was made an honorary Secret Service agent.

"So to Nancy, and all of the others posting nonsense about Trump being a maniac, please look at yourself in the mirror and see what you’ve turned into."

Democrats File Articles Of Impeachment Against Little Black Boy With Cancer

"While some in the Democratic party felt it might be unwise to come out as pro-pediatric cancer, Congressional leaders did not waver. "We will never cheer little black boys beating cancer and achieving their dreams," said Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. "That's exactly what Trump wants us to do. We will never support such tyranny." . . .  Parody, you know?

English Is Now the Official Language of the USA. Should We Care?

The American Spectator  Trump’s executive order will have few practical impacts, but it will promote unity and a shared American culture.

"I hope Trump’s executive order will have few practical consequences on the multilingual richness of this country, but I couldn’t be happier that my nation is not embarrassed to acknowledge English as the means by which it “promotes unity” and “cultivates a shared American culture for all citizens.' ”
I got your unity right here! Babylon Bee

"As President Trump mentioned in Tuesday’s address to the joint session of Congress, he signed an executive order designating English as the nation’s official language on March 1. But should we care?

"Inasmuch as the intent of Trump’s order is to “promote unity” and “cultivate a shared American culture for all citizens,” the answer is yes. To the extent that there will be no real impact on current practices and procedures in use by the federal government and its affiliated agencies, the answer is no.

"Which, quite frankly, is as it should be. When you consider that Russia systematically repressed the Ukrainian language in the mid-17th and 18th centuries and Polish in the 19th and 20th, it’s been relatively smooth sailing for the United States. And yet, by not having had to care much about adopting an official language, our soon-to-be-250-year-old nation may not appreciate the cultural significance of having a common language in the way that Ukraine and Poland do.

"But that doesn’t mean the question of a national language has been without contention. The refusal of German immigrants to speak English in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania annoyed Benjamin Franklin. He had a bone to pick with them anyway since, among his many entrepreneurial pursuits, he unsuccessfully attempted to publish a German-language newspaper and was apparently embittered by the Germans’ pacifist lethargy toward fighting the Indians.

"The Continental Congress, convinced that the ideas of political liberty were universal and communicable in any language, had no problem publishing promotional material for the Revolution in English, German, and French. However, that did not prevent John Adams from advocating standards for English and supporting the erection of a language academy. Fortunately, the Continental Congress deemed such measures inappropriate for the federal government and a threat to individual liberties. In fact, it wasn’t until 1906 that the federal government felt it could no longer be so disinterested and finally designated English proficiency as a requirement for naturalization.

"A bit surprisingly for such a symbolic gesture, Trump’s executive order does not specify “American English” as the country’s official language. Perhaps it would be difficult to determine precisely what “American English” is, but it was not at all a moot point for dictionary author Noah Webster, who believed that “as an independent nation, our honor (sic!) requires us to have a system of our own, in language as well as government.”

"Therein lie the roots of American spelling, something I was asked to repress while working in the Vatican’s Secretariat of State, the reason for which I can only suspect had something to do with a perceived American imperialism (check out the latest papal encyclical if you don’t believe me)." . . .

Rachel Maddow’s Very, Very, Very Special Friend

 Ann Coulter

"To the eternal misfortune of black Americans, the left decided to take them as pets, then patronize them to death."

"I gotta admit, Joy Reid was indeed blindsided when she was fired from MSNBC this week. How could she possibly have seen this cancellation coming? Sure, by the end, she was down to 11 actual viewers nationwide, eight of them in hospital ICUs, their charts indicating coma protocol.

"Of her remaining three viewers, one was a gentleman named Nelson, sitting in a Detroit gastropub, who kept screaming at the bartender, "What is this s**t? Dude, turn the f-ing channel. Damn! B**ch crazy."

"Data seem to indicate that the remaining two viewers were at a Frontier Airlines departure gate, where "The ReidOut" was being broadcast without sound. It's unclear whether these two were traveling as a couple or did not, in fact, know each other.

"But how was Joy to deduce from all this that her show was in trouble?

Fortunately for Joy, there is no truer Friend-of-Black-People than her erstwhile MSNBC colleague Rachel Maddow, who lives in a town, Cummington, Massachusetts, that is "0.0%" black. (I wouldn't mention this, except liberals pioneered the art of counting the number of black faces at any conservative gathering in order to call them racist. Oh, who am I kidding -- yes, I would.)

"Here are the highlights of Rachel's self-aggrandizing, on-air tribute to Joy on Monday night:

" '[Joy] is leaving the network altogether. That is very, very, very hard to take.

"(Do we think three "very's" is enough? If she really meant it, wouldn't there be six or seven?)

" 'In all of the jobs I have had in all of the years I have been alive, there is no colleague for whom I have had more affection and more respect than Joy Reid. I love everything about her. I have learned so much from her. I have so much more to learn from her." . . .

Fast forward to today, and we’re seeing the collapse of the DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) industrial complex.  "President Trump’s swamp-draining efforts have left race pimps like Joy Reid scrambling. And let’s be honest, Reid’s firing wasn’t just a dismissal—it was a full-on “get the f*ck out” moment. MSNBC didn’t even bother with the usual corporate niceties. They just showed her the door." . . .

. . .“My show mattered*!” she declared. Uh, not so much, Joy. The show offered  a case study in how to monetize racial grievance…at the taxpayers’ expense."

"*Mattered"? To whom? Perhaps to Al Sharpton, Maxine Waters, Summer Lee, and Jasmine Crockett. One might hope Reid's bigotry would somehow bring healing to those honestly hurt by genuine racism. But I feel concern those Americans -black and white- whose homes and businesses have been looted or burned to the ground by angry people steeped in the words of Crockett and those mentioned above.

Too much evil has been done to blacks over the generations by violent whites and much-needed rehabilitation is taking place. Sadly now we see the scab being scraped open again by the likes of Reid and Crockett. You may - if old enough - remember Bull Connor, John Wayne Gacy, General Nathan Bedford Forrest, among many others.

Now we have the mirror images of those. The Tunnel Dweller

Jasmine Crockett Says Trump Is Going After Illegals So He Can Send Black People 'Back to the Fields'

. . ."Crockett's comments surfaced during a segment for a "24-Hour State of the People Marathon," which was a protest event designed to counter the president's address to Congress earlier this week.

"The livestream featured a never-ending assembly line of guests providing racially charged and provocative commentary. Crockett did not disappoint.

“ 'As they have decided to go after immigrants and these — and things like that, and they’ve said, ‘Oh, they’ve taken your black job, they’ve taken your black jobs,'" she told viewers. "Not really, they are obviously jobs that they want us to go back to, such as work in the fields, alright?"

" 'Those immigrants that come into our country, they work the fields, something that we ain’t done in a long time," added Crockett. "And clearly, he is trying to make us go back to the fields.”...

Exposing the Democrats’ Shameful Behavior

About [Tuesday] Night: A Little Instruction on Progressives Can Be Helpful

. . ."Why all the rancor? Why did they snub a kid battling cancer and people who have lost loved ones? Why did they stay sullen and silent when they should have been applauding accomplishments that benefit the nation? Why were they defiant over the prospect of a war ending? Well, let your friendly, neighborhood recovering Democrat break it down for you. This is old territory for me, so walk with me while I take you down the dark corridors of the Progressive mind. It has been a while since I declared myself to be what used to pass for a liberal, but I think I remember enough to guide you through the weirdness. Allow me to be the Virgil to your Dante." . . .

"The Democrats really showed their behinds. If you dislike and don't respect Trump..ok. But at least have the decency and clap for those regular Americans that were there. I mean at least stand for the 13 year old Cancer survivor."

As a lifelong Dem, I never thought I’d see my party embarrass itself so much
From obnoxious booing to childish protest signs to a sitting member of Congress having to be physically removed from the chamber, Democrats turned what should have been a solemn, dignified event into a bad reality show. And for what?

Two polls show the public is thrilled with Trump's address to Congress  ..."No wonder the public isn't buying it.

"Every childish thing Democrats have done in these last 24 hours has been toxic for their prospects as Trump rises in the polls, just by addressing things people care about.

"Deep down, they seem to know this.

"I was struck by how official Democrat respondent, Sen. Elissa Slotkin, seemed to go out of her way to appropriate President Trump's ideas as if they were her own. She spoke of border enforcement. She nattered on about being against government waste."

Slotkin’s unserious reply to Trump’s 2025 joint address to Congress ..."Slotkin’s meaningless abstractions about “who we are” as a country and a democracy are nice pablum but, unfortunately, the Biden-Harris administration forgot who we are as a country and forgot about our national security when they stoked inflation with reckless spending, opened our borders and lied about it for four years, and ignored the rise in crime. That’s why Democrats were decimated in the 2024 election.

"Slotkin warned that “We need to bring down the price of Groceries, Housing, Healthcare, cars.”  Unfortunately, that is precisely what the Biden-Harris administration did not do for four years.  And we thought that Obamacare was supposed to bring down the price of health care.  In fact, it doubled it.  That is why Kamala, comically, had to campaign on bringing down the price of healthcare." . . .

What's Behind Democrats' Dominance and Collapse

 Townhall

"Academics, for example, play a far larger role in Democrat policies than in Republicans'. And academia is filled with tenured "intellectuals" who can peddle socially destructive ideas with little fear of consequences." While their students burn flags in the streets, wear Hamas garb, and attack Jews.

"Remember the cameras will be on you - look depressed and angry. You can smile and laugh later"

. . ."They have grown so accustomed to answering to no one that their policies have become utterly divorced from reality: Shoplifting is no big deal. Criminals are just misunderstood. Citizenship doesn't matter. Government should be able to censor speech. Foreign students here on visas should be able to destroy property, disrupt classes and terrorize Jewish faculty, students and staff. Men are women and women are men if they say they are, and biological males have no physical advantage over females, so let them take the awards in sport. Put sex offenders in women's prisons and little girls' locker rooms; anyone who complains about the injuries (physical and otherwise) to actual women is the problem. Children can consent to chemical castration or surgical mutilation. Schools exist to instruct students about their teachers' sexual preferences and foster gender dysphoria, and parents have no right to know what's going on in the classroom or in the curriculum. (We can teach porn to your kids, Mom and Dad, but you can't read it aloud at a school board meeting.)

"It was only a matter of time before this whole ridiculous edifice came crashing down. These absurd and destructive ideologies are terrible and wrong, and Americans hate them. This would have been obvious long ago had anyone -- anyone -- responsible for the creation and dissemination of these ideologies been accountable to the electorate." . . .
