Kevin Cosgrove's Final 911 Call From South Tower - His Last Words Will Haunt You

BBC NEWS | Americas | Jury hears 9/11 victim's scream  "The dying scream of a man who was talking on his mobile phone as the south tower of the World Trade Center collapsed has been heard in a US court.

Jurors who must decide whether al-Qaeda plotter Zacarias Moussaoui should be executed listened to the final moments of Kevin Cosgrove on 11 September 2001.

Trapped in his 99th floor office, the executive was talking to an emergency dispatcher when the building came down.

The tape was the culmination of a day of harrowing evidence.

It was played with a synchronised videotape showing the moment when the tower fell.

Cosgrove, vice-president of insurance broker Aon, was heard shouting "Oh my God" amid crashing sounds, before he screamed and the line went dead.

Tuesday will see further evidence of the suffering caused by the 11 September attacks presented to the jury.

US district judge Leonie Brinkema has warned prosecutors not to overplay emotional testimony, reminding them that appeal judges could overturn a death sentence if they believed it was overly prejudicial.

Prosecutors say they have scaled back some testimony, and are presenting evidence from a fraction of those affected by nearly 3,000 deaths that day.

'I am going to die'

On Monday, jurors also heard calls for help to emergency services from 34-year-old Melissa Doi, who was on the 83rd floor of the south tower.

"The floor is completely engulfed, it is very, very hot. I am going to die aren't I? I am going to die, I am going to die," a panicking Doi could be heard saying.

"Please God, it is so hot, I am burning up." . . .More...

Outrage erupts at apparent insult from Mamdani during 9/11 ceremony

While no one took issue with the declaration, many were offended when he handed a ceremonial pen to the NYPD commissioner to give to chief counsel Ramzi Kassem.

"Kassem had previously acted as legal counsel for Ahmed al-Darbi, a convicted al-Qaeda terrorist whose brother-in-law hijacked the plane that crashed into the Pentagon on 9/11." . . .

Why This Illinois City Built a Gate to Seal Itself Off

IT'S HISTORY

"At the southern tip of Illinois, where the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers collide, the city of Cairo [kay-ro] once relied on one of the most extraordinary flood defenses in American history. Hanging above the road into town was the Big Subway Gate — an enormous iron barrier designed to drop into place and seal the city off from the outside world, turning Cairo into a fortified island during catastrophic floods.

"In this episode, we explore how Cairo rose from swampy failure to Civil War stronghold, why its location made it both powerful and vulnerable, and how the Big Subway Gate became the centerpiece of a desperate engineering plan to hold back two of the most dangerous rivers in North America. This is the story of survival, decline, and one forgotten structure that still hangs over the city today."

White Paper: Grant at Cairo: Logistical Strategy in the Early Civil War and the Modern Failure of Cairo, Illinois to Capitalize on Its Strategic Location | Edge Induced Cohesion    "During the opening phase of the American Civil War, Cairo, Illinois served as one of the most strategically important logistical hubs in the Western Theater. Its position at the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers made it the northern gateway to the South’s interior waterways—arteries essential for moving men, materiel, and gunboats. Under the command of Ulysses S. Grant (initially as a brigadier general), Cairo became the launching pad for operations that cracked open Confederate defenses in the West: the seizure of Paducah, the Forts Henry and Donelson campaign, and the opening of the Tennessee, Cumberland, and Mississippi waterways.

"Yet Cairo today is a fraction of its former self." . . .

WNBA Hero Sophie Cunningham’s Text After Enes Kanter Got Tossed Defending Women’s Sports

 RedState

"After he was booted, Kanter posted, "I just got kicked out of a WNBA game for supporting WOMEN! Let that sink in, AMERICA!"  TMZ

"Enes Kanter Freedom says Sophie Cunningham reached out after he was tossed from a WNBA arena for daring to stand in her corner in the fight to keep biological males out of women's and girls' locker rooms.

The former NBA center told Fox News that the Indiana Fever guard’s message after the game against the Chicago Sky was brief.

She wanted to know, "What happened?"

Freedom was famously sporting a simple black shirt that read “WOMAN noun. adult human female" during the game in question.

At some point during the third quarter, Sky guard Natasha Cloud lost it, triggered by Freedom's presence. Cloud began pointing in the draft prospect's direction and yelling. She was very animated.

Freedom simply smiled, arms wide-open, and stepped toward the floor. He never stepped over the baseline and really wasn't close to doing so. Security eventually escorted him out of the arena regardless. They eventually banned him from the arena.

Cloud probably should have focused more on the game. They lost by 23 points, dropped to 15-23 on the season, and had to continue stewing over the fact that not even Angel Reese, with her putrid field goal percentage, wanted to play for that franchise."   More.

Talarico’s cynical rebranding is here

 Silvio Canto, Jr.

"He sounds like a DSA candidate, doesn’t he? Yes he does. Talarico is now claiming that those are old videos and that he has “changed.'”

"The first money truck has arrived in Texas, and you can see early results on local TV. The ads about Talarico’s record are showing up a lot. The first money truck is from MAGA:

After weeks of speculation about whether President Donald Trump would deploy his vast campaign resources in Texas, MAGA Inc., the main pro-Trump super PAC, made a $10 million ad buy in the Texas Senate race.

The buy, which goes towards television streaming and digital advertising, is MAGA Inc.’s first expenditure of the general election, signalling the importance of the Texas Senate race to Trump’s political operation and the competitive nature of the contest.

Half of the $10 million tranche will go towards positive advertising boosting Republican Ken Paxton, an ally of the president, while the other half will go toward negative messaging against Democrat James Talarico. The ad spend was disclosed in an FEC filing Saturday afternoon.

"As I mentioned, the results are evident to anyone watching the Rangers’ games over the weekend or other programming. We are finally hearing about Talarico’s record.

"The other batch is coming from Elon Musk.

Again, the cash is evident in the new ads contrasting “High taxes” Talarico and “Low Taxes” Paxton.

"There is also something else happening. Talarico is starting to get some media questions about his record. A good one was over border security, where the candidate was critical of the Biden record. He now calls himself a “border security Democrat,” but the rebranding lacks substance. Did he ever criticize the former administration over border security? His answer is yes, but there is no record on that. It doesn’t get better on the oil and gas industry. Again. He claims to be a strong supporter, but nobody in the industry recalls that support.

"So the Texas campaign has finally moved into substantive debates over issues. It’s hard to see how Talarico can compete on that front. His remarks on capitalism will be hard to swallow for most Texas:" . . . More

Mayor Mamdani Up All Night Practicing Sad Face For Upcoming 9/11 Observance

Or go on MSNOW and just be yourself.

Babylon Bee Parody

NEW YORK, NY — New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was reportedly seen standing in front of his bathroom mirror practicing his "sad face" in preparation for his upcoming appearance at the 9/11 memorial.
"The young mayor was seen smiling somberly, frowning, nodding, and furrowing his brows through the window of his New York City residence. The source who witnessed the scene believed Mamdani was practicing his facial expressions so he could more effectively pretend to be sad when remembering the deaths of thousands of Americans at the hands of Islamic terrorists.
"'It was weird," bystander Nate Signal said. "I was walking my dog and just happened to glance in his window, and I could see him shaking his head and dabbing at his eyes. But the weird thing was, there were no tears. It really seemed like he was trying to rehearse something."
"Controversy surrounding Mamdani's appearance at the event has mounted in recent days, as many said his past statements and present views on radical Islam taint the memory of the fallen.
"'I have to make it look just right," Mamdani reportedly commented to his friends. "They need to see that I'm sad, but also that I'm reflecting on what has been. And also that I'm just one of the guys. And also that I hate radicals of all kinds. Especially Israeli radicals."
"At publishing time, Mamdani had told his staff that he figured out how to make his face look sad by remembering how he felt when he heard that Osama bin Laden had been killed."

Automated license plate readers require scrutiny—and due process

A response to Charles Fain Lehman’s “In Defense of Flock” article. *

Vittorio Nastasi

"The warrant requirements it imposes would not meaningfully inhibit investigations either, as similar standards already apply to searches of homes and cellphones."

"Automated license plate readers (ALPRs) have spread to thousands of American communities faster than almost any policing technology in memory. Flock Safety, one among many ALPR vendors, now operates approximately 120,000 cameras nationwide.

"Stories of misuse and abuse abound, including warrantless searches of movement histories, informal ICE access to camera networks despite state laws forbidding it, a Kansas police chief who used the system to stalk his ex-girlfriend, and a driver held at gunpoint because a reader misread her plate. Such stories would make any libertarian squeamish, though public backlash against the technology extends well beyond libertarian circles.

"But what is the argument in favor of ALPRs? Writing in The Atlantic, the Manhattan Institute’s Charles Fain Lehman makes an ostensibly measured case in defense of Flock. He argues that ALPRs will help solve more crimes and thereby reduce crime by incapacitating and deterring criminals. Indeed, Lehman himself has compiled an impressive database of cases where ALPRs were used to help solve crimes.

"Lehman doesn’t deny the privacy costs, though. He acknowledges documented abuses, and he appears to take privacy concerns seriously, conceding that a database of billions of vehicle images might be considered a major privacy intrusion (Flock’s ALPRs are currently generating about 20 billion license plate scans per month). His conclusion is that ALPRs are “likely a valuable tool” and that these concerns are real but manageable through “smart regulation, not bans.”

"He’s right that an outright ban on ALPRs would be both unworkable and unnecessary. And solving more crimes is indeed a good way to increase deterrence. But his argument relies on evidence that is considerably weaker than he presents. More importantly, though, his proposal for “smart regulation” stops short of the one thing that would actually address the privacy concerns he concedes are legitimate: treating ALPR database queries like any other police search and requiring a warrant.

The research is more mixed than Lehman lets on

Lehman’s case that ALPRs are “probably” a valuable tool rests on evidence that he concedes is thin. Here’s how he characterizes the current state of research on ALPRs: . . . More.

*Charles Fain Lehman, a legal policy fellow and director of Cities at the Manhattan Institute, published “In Defense of Flock” in The Atlantic on August 10, 2026, arguing that automated license plate readers (ALPRs) — particularly those deployed by Flock Safety — can make the criminal justice system fairer and less punitive if properly used

*Charles Fain Lehman’s “In Defense of Flock” article." - Outline   Core Argument

Lehman contends that ALPRs, which photograph and identify license plates in real time, can:

  • Solve more crimes by enabling rapid identification of suspects and tracking of vehicles.

  • Deter criminal activity by making it harder for offenders to move undetected.

  • Reduce reliance on punitive measures by helping law enforcement target crimes more efficiently.

David Ellison Sees the Writing on the Wall for Hollywood

  The American Spectator

David Ellison’s Paramount-Warner Bros studio can’t get out of Hollywood fast enough.

New chat

"A Pompeii resident looking out his window at Mount Vesuvius on August 24, A.D. 79 would have noticed something was amiss from the black smoke emanating out the top. He might have fled the city before it got destroyed, salvaging what he could. Movie mogul David Ellison has been observing the virtual darkness menacing Hollywood, and is taking steps to rebuild elsewhere.

"Entertainment industry luminaries are going berserk over the looming Ellison merger of Paramount and Warner Bros studios. As usual with them, for all the wrong reasons. They warn about the resultant reduced production, fewer jobs, less competition (four major studios instead of five), and that Ellison may move the entire conglomerate out of Los Angeles. Which some astute insiders see as a good thing, given what the recent studio regimes and political leaders have done to the physical location and its workers.

"'If Paramount — Warner Bros. leaves L.A., it’ll be game over for Hollywood,” declared TV-film director Joseph Kahn in a scorching Hollywood Reporter column last week. When you’ve lost The Hollywood Reporter, you should know the end is nigh. But because you’re in the entertainment industry, you probably can’t read the signs, since you understand nothing outside your business.

"In fact, you don’t understand your business, or you wouldn’t have spent the last twenty years helping to wreck it. You’re likely a diversity hire replacement for men who knew the tenuous link between the economics, politics, and art of the trade. And you can do nothing other than rage and ruin until your own job disappears.

“The writers and actors warning you about consolidation do not live in the world,” wrote Kahn. “If they did, they would understand that nobody spends $110 billion to make less of anything. Corporations don’t merge to shrink. They merge to shove product into every screen, format, territory, and Botox hole available.” . . .

Clancy defense attorney Reddington should be 'disbarred' after mistrial: Joe Concha

If you liked the Hamas massacre of Israelis that day, would you like what Clancy did?

Washington Examiner

"Clancy remains committed to a mental health institution."

Broc Smith

"Washington Examiner columnist Joe Concha said the defense attorney in the Lindsay Clancy trial, Kevin Reddington, should be “disbarred.”

“At one point, supporters went up to Kevin Reddington and said, ‘Where can I buy you a steak dinner?’” Concha said on Fox News’s The Big Weekend Show on Saturday. “As if there is something to celebrate here. What an absolute joke. He should be disbarred, I’ll say it.”

The weekslong trial, followed by seven days of deliberation, ultimately resulted in a mistrial. The ruling came after an 11-1 verdict, with one single holdout. A note passed by the jury foreperson was read in court, stating that one juror wasn’t applying the legal burden of “reasonable doubt” to his decision. Following the mistrial, Reddington blasted the juror during a news conference.

“[The jurors] know that they were robbed,” Reddington said. “By one who, for whatever his agenda was, stole seven weeks of the lives of these other jurors. You can see how defeated they were sitting there.”

“Hm, Siri, what’s grandstanding?” Concha said.

Prosecutors now must choose where to proceed with a retrial, bench trial, a plea deal, or full-out dismissal. Concha said it would be extremely difficult to find an impartial jury, given the insurmountable amount of media coverage. Social media has also seen an influx of people commenting on the trial, both against and in support of Clancy.

“How can you possibly, given all the media attention around this and given how prevalent social media is on our phones and in our lives in general, how can another trial possibly find an unbiased jury at this point?” Concha said, directing the question to Susan Constantine, a jury consultant. Lindsay Clancy and America’s Death Culture | The American Spectator

. . . "But if the horror and details of the Clancy case do nothing else? One suspects, like the slow-motion attention paid to American involvement in Vietnam so many decades ago, more and more Americans — for reasons good, bad, or indifferent — will slowly come to realize that whether the immediate issue is abortion or euthanasia or something else, America has a problem. And once understood, the political question will be what to do about it. And will this “death culture” become a hot-button election issue?" . . .More...

Jobs report 'better than expected'

"Bureaucracies accomplish nothing so efficiently as perpetuating and growing themselves."

Mike McDaniel "If one were to give the Democrat propaganda media credit for accuracy and honesty, one would believe the economic sky was falling. By their lights, we’re in worse economic shape than we were during the Great Depression. Nothing is affordable, and there are no jobs, which is apparently why it’s vital to keep every illegal immigrant in America and to import tens of millions more. They’ll do the non-existent jobs Americans, who have no jobs, won’t do.

Economists and other “experts” routinely predict economic gloom and doom, yet time and time again, the facts contradict them. At Powerline, Bill Glahn comments:

John noted the blowout jobs report issued yesterday. Payroll jobs up 162,000, exceeding expectations. Numbers for June and July were revised upward. The small loss for July originally announced turned out to be an actual gain. The unemployment rate remains unchanged at 4.1 percent.

If you go back for 25 years, you end up with an average unemployment rate of 5.7 percent. Since this is an election year, and Republicans are in charge, Democrats and the legacy media, but I repeat myself, insist that the economy is worse than the darkest days of the Great Depression, with Dust-Bowl weather and plagues of locusts.

Glahn is referring to this Bureau of Labor Statistics report, which is nothing but good news. Some sources are admitting the numbers are better than expected:

Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 162,000 in August, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.1 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment increased in food services and drinking places and in local government education. The information industry lost jobs. . . .
