The left is starting to jump the shark on its child migrant 'crisis'

Monica Showalter  "For the left, it's finally springtime.  After months in the political wilderness, followed by the crushed hopes for the great blue wave, leftists are finally getting a grip on an issue they can pin on President Trump: family separations among detained illegal border-crossers.  They're going wild with this issue, and the press is running stories about it nonstop, complete with crying children to tug at the heartstrings.  But there are signs it's getting to be too much for them, driving them to overplay their hand.

"The child migrant crisis they have drummed up, with media cameras shamelessly exploiting the faces of crying children (they blank out unconsenting children's faces otherwise) separated from their parents, at first glance seems to be the magic bullet they've been looking for.
"Many Republicans, for instance, are caving on the real issue, which is border enforcement, hastily offering up new legislation that incentivizes more illegal border-crossing.  Many are condemning the migrant separations and blaming Trump, too.  It's a panicked response to polls showing public approval numbers dropping, and never mind that the issue itself is problematic, not quite what the left's narrative says it is, premised on laws enacted well before President Trump took office and enforced the same way by past presidents.  Only Trump is getting the blame for a now saturation-coverage situation.  Instead of fighting back, as Trump does, the Republicans are caving, and this emboldens the left.  Yes, indeed – this is what passes for springtime for the Trump-hating left." . . .

Chris Pratt gives powerful speech about God's love at MTV Movie & TV Awards

CBS News  "Actor Chris Pratt has some biblical -- and humorous -- words of advice for the next generation. The "Jurassic World" star put his faith on full view when he accepted the "Generation Award" at Monday night's MTV Movie & TV Awards and imparted his nine essential life rules.
" 'I accept the responsibility as your elder, so listen up," Pratt said
. . .
"Number one? "Breathe," Pratt said. "If you don't, you'll suffocate."
Two: "You have a soul. Be careful with it." And three, in Pratt's words, "Don't be a turd." He also quipped a few more less-serious lessons, like how to best use the bathroom at a party and how to give a dog medicine, before getting to his deeper, more powerful words of wisdom.
"Rules six and eight seemed to strike the biggest chord on social media.
" 'God is real. God loves you. God wants the best for you. Believe that. I do," Pratt said. "Learn to pray. It's easy and it's so good for your soul."
"Pratt, 38, then wrapped up his speech with his last rule: "Nobody is perfect."
" 'There is a powerful force that designed you that way and if you're willing to accept that, you will have grace. And grace is a gift," Pratt told the audience. "And like the freedom we enjoy in this country, that grace was paid for with somebody else's blood. Do not forget it.' "

HERE ARE HORRIFYING PHOTOS OF OBAMA’S ILLEGAL ALIEN FACILITIES THE MEDIA REFUSES TO SHOW YOU

Daily Caller  "The media and political class become more and more outraged over the Trump administration’s decision to detain and prosecute immigrants illegally crossing the border.
"Lost in the debate is any acknowledgement that President Obama’s administration also used detention facilities.
"Current U.S. immigration laws, when enforced, have the consequence of temporarily separating families that arrive with children into separate detention facilities in order to prosecute the adults. The policy of prosecuting immigrants for crossing the border illegally has been in place for multiple administrations. The Obama administration prosecuted half a million illegal immigrants and similarly separated families in the process. So did the Bush administration. Personal accounts from immigration lawyers tell a tale of Obama being equally concerned about unaccompanied minors traveling to the border and wanting to create a deterrent.
"Photos of border detention facilities from the Obama-era, taken during 2014, look nearly identical to the ones taken during the Trump era.
"You never see them, however. Here they are, taken in 2014 during a media tour of an Obama-era detention facilities in Brownsville, Texas, and Nogales, Arizona."

The President's persecutors on the child immigration issue and their cynical use of these children to emasculate his administration

Democrats: Experts at separating families  . . . "I don't know if the Statue of Liberty is weeping over the plight of non-citizens under the care and protection of Border Patrol agents, but I do know that Democrats have no high ground to stand on when deliberating the issue of separating families.
"They long ago perfected the art of smashing family units into unrecognizable and ineffective debris.
"Democrats will do the same to any constituency that submits to their electoral will."
What’s inside Sen. Cruz’s emergency legislation to prevent immigrant child separation?  . . . "While the full text of the Protect Kids and Parents Act is not yet available, Cruz claims the bill will curb child separation by doing the following:
  • Double the number of federal immigration judges, from roughly 375 to 750.
  • Authorize new temporary shelters, with accommodations to keep families together.
  • Mandate that illegal immigrant families must be kept together, absent aggravated criminal conduct or threat of harm to the children.
  • Provide for expedited processing and review of asylum cases, so that—within 14 days—those who meet the legal standards will be granted asylum, and those who do not will be immediately returned to their home countries.
"Cruz is up for re-election this fall and will square off against Rep. Beto O’Rourke. Finding bi-partisan support in an immigration issue that’s drawn national outrage certainly won’t hurt him in the race.
"Reporting is all over the place on the border/child separation issue that has only recently drawn an incredible amount of attention from the media. Everyone on every side (including the people that brought them here) are using these children in some way for some particular reason. It’s gross on every side and I have no idea which reports are overblown and which are accurate." . . .
The Trump administration has implored Congress to fix the loop holes that require a child to be removed from their parent’s custody pending hearing. Cruz, it would seem, has accepted the challenge.
Political Cartoons by Mike Lester

Some economic migrants are using children as chits, but the problem is fixable — if Congress acts.  . . . "The Trump administration is throwing as many resources as it can at the border to expedite the process, and it desperately wants the Flores consent decree reversed. Despite some mixed messages, if the administration had its druthers, family units would be kept together and their cases settled quickly."

Press whips up emotion in child migrant feeding frenzy, and workable solutions get obscured . . . "A good piece to read on the background of why illegal immigrants are coming to the border, instead of the embassies, to claim asylum, is by Daniel Horowitz at Conservative Review, headlined "The Immorality of Open Borders."  His opener is a perfect summary of all the hard facts he supports with diamond-clarity:" . . .

Comparing separations
. . . "The real engineers of human separations are not the Department of Homeland Security or the Office of Refugee Resettlement, but organizations like Planned Parenthood and everyone in and out of politics who supports the abortion industry.  Those who profess outrage over the separation of the illegal alien children have no credibility unless they express equal or greater indignation over the appalling human separation called abortion.

The great pile-on: Every loathsome washed up pol crawls out of the woodwork to bash Trump on child migrants

It's really amazing.  We learn who Trump's real allies are in this and who's an opportunist.  Almost every last one of these people reminds me how much I dislike them all, standing there with the crazy left-wing activists, offering zero solutions to a longstanding, difficult problem to resolve if the country is to not get inundated with migrants as Europe has been.  We are reminded again of their true colors.
Monica Showalter  "President Trump, to his credit, is holding firm on his zero-tolerance policy for illegal migrants at the border.

"That's led the press to a considerable feeding frenzy on one of the consequences of it: the separation of migrants traveling with children so that the illegally arrived adults can wait their asylum claims out in detention, and the children can wait it out in non-prison conditions.  That's brought on lots of pictures of crying children and claimed stories of missing-children outrages, as well as a ton of phony news, dutifully reported over and over.  The object is to weaken Trump in the wake of his successes on the economy and with North Korea, as well as end his quest for an end to open borders.
"It's also been announced that these stories are working, causing President Trump's poll numbers to fall.  Some call it "Trump's Katrina" and never mind that voters elected him because they just want illegal immigration to stop.
"So what has this media-driven perception of "not winning" brought us now?
"Every committed Trump hater and skeevy NeverTrump is crawling out of the woodwork to pile on.  Say a few sentences about how terrible it is to separate children from immigration lawbreakers, and it's instant headline time.  The feeding-frenzy media ensures it.
"Here are some who've jumped up to take that benefit, helping to undercut President Trump's efforts to finally secure the border:" . . .

Moms Of Children Killed By Illegal Aliens Slam Media For Hypocritical Coverage Of Border Separations

Daily Caller  "The “Angel Moms” of two American sons killed by illegal aliens told The Daily Caller how they felt about the media coverage of migrant parents separated from their children at the border.

Mendoza
"The mothers told TheDC that there was huge hypocrisy in the mainstream media focusing on migrant parents instead of American parents who were permanently separated from their children after those children were killed by illegal aliens.
“ 'There is hypocrisy in many ways. The total disregard for American families ripped apart because of illegal criminals, the total lack of concern for children in the U.S. being raped in North Carolina by illegals at disgusting numbers (some months over 400 child rapes by illegals), no concern [for] homeless American children or Veterans who would do anything to have what’s provided [to] these children. Yet, our politicians call it inhumane treatment. Would they rather these kids coming across our borders stay with the adults who aren’ttheir biological parents but have kidnapped them to get across the border as a ‘family unit?'” Mary Ann Mendoza told The DC.

"Mendoza’s story is absolutely heartbreaking.

"Her son, Sgt. Brandon Mendoza, was killed by an illegal alien who was drunk driving and hit him head-on.

"On her website, the Sgt. Brandon Mendoza Memorial Foundation, she writes:" . . .

Sources: Illegals Increasingly Use Other People's Children .to Claim Asylum

Caretakers on the ground have seen the same phenomenon with Sister Norma Pimentel, who works at a children shelter in South Texas, telling the Los Angeles Times, “one thing we have seen a lot of are people coming with children who are not theirs.”
Daily Caller  "Illegal immigrants are increasingly posing with children who are not their own in order to try to gain expedited entry to the U.S., multiple sources tell The Daily Caller.
"A law enforcement source directly involved in apprehension told The Daily Caller officers are increasingly encountering “family units” of adult males with children of various ages. When law enforcement attempts to debrief the adult males with children, they often cannot answer even the most basic questions about their supposed children. The children also rarely appear to know details of their apparent “fathers.”
"The law enforcement source cast doubt on the asylum claims that many of the illegal immigrants appear to parrot, pointing out that the vast majority of those detained are actively trying to evade authorities. Only upon their detention do they offer the exact same credible fear of returning home, most of whom say the phrase in the exact same scripted way.
"The scripted manner of answer indicates to authorities that these illegal immigrants have been coached by human trafficking organizations.
. . .
"A law enforcement source also described a number of troubling encounters with illegal immigrants of Mexican nationals posing as citizens from other non-contiguous countries in order to stymie authorities and deter deportation." . . .

Trump Supporter Disrupts Robert De Niro's Musical With 'Keep America Great' Flag

Daily Wire  "Robert De Niro hasn't made a decent movie in years (unless you consider "Dirty Grandpa" a good flick).
"So, in order to get press, De Niro has been on a tear about President Trump. He's gone to great lengths to shock: at the most recent Tony Awards, where he was giving out a statue, he yelled, “I’m gonna say one thing: “f*** Trump!”"

"But now he's getting some push back — even in liberal New York City.

"On Saturday, at a Broadway performance of the De Niro-directed musical “A Bronx Tale," a Trump supporter stood up during the curtain call and hoisted a “Keep America Great!” flag.

“ 'The times we live in,” tweeted audience member Joe Del Vicario. “At the end of A Bronx Tale, a man turned around and faced the audience to show us how big of a pair he has,” Del Vicario said. “He was escorted shortly after," he wrote, lamenting how even a play is now politicized.

"Others, though, pointed out that it had happened before.

And the policies they are ranting over were utilized by Barack Obama – he was the one who put poor children in cages like dogs. We don’t do that under this president." . . .

The Truth about Separating Kids

Rich Lowry
Some economic migrants are using children as chits, but the problem is fixable — if Congress acts.

"The latest furor over Trump immigration policy involves the separation of children from parents at the border.

"As usual, the outrage obscures more than it illuminates, so it’s worth walking through what’s happening here.

"For the longest time, illegal immigration was driven by single males from Mexico. Over the last decade, the flow has shifted to women, children, and family units from Central America. This poses challenges we haven’t confronted before and has made what once were relatively minor wrinkles in the law loom very large.
. . .
. . . 3) There is a significant moral cost to not enforcing the border. There is obviously a moral cost to separating a parent from a child and almost everyone would prefer not to do it. But, under current policy and with the current resources, the only practical alternative is letting family units who show up at the border live in the country for the duration. Not only does this make a mockery of our laws, it creates an incentive for people to keep bringing children with them.Needless to say, children should not be making this journey that is fraught with peril. But there is now a premium on bringing children because of how we have handled these cases. They are considered chits. . . .
DHS Secretary Nielsen slams 'irresponsible' media, says no 'policy of separating families at the border'  . . . "The head of the Department of Homeland Security bashed the media Sunday for their reporting on the increasingly volatile immigration controversy, writing in a string of tweets: “We do not have a policy of separating families at the border. Period.”

"Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen added: “This misreporting by Members, press & advocacy groups must stop. It is irresponsible and unproductive. As I have said many times before, if you are seeking asylum for your family, there is no reason to break the law and illegally cross between ports of entry.' ”

Let’s get serious about school safety

"The knee-jerk answer by many liberals is ‘ban guns.’ But I think the questions we face are just too complex to be resolved by two little words." Kay Coles James, President, The Heritage Foundation
Heritage  "Nearly 20 years separate the horrible tragedies at Columbine High School in Colorado and Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

"In that time, too little has been done to make our schools safer. That’s why our grieving nation is again searching for a solution.

"If America is ready to get serious about school safety, we need to focus on a range of pressing issues—including mental health, family breakdown, culture, media, and more.

"Our children and grandchildren deserve to be safe at school. We can’t allow another tragedy to occur.

"It’s time to set aside political agendas and get serious about school safety. Here are 10 questions we should start asking."

Another Father's Day, and so many kids without fathers around

Tom Stiglich at Townhall
We regularly watch Wheel of Fortune and find the contestant interviews interesting, but troubling in one major way: many women tell about their "amazing children" yet there is - too often - no mention of a husband. TD

Silvio Canto, Jr.  "As we celebrate Father's Day, I thank God that I had a mentor in my life, the kind of man who understood what it means to be a father.  Not everyone is so lucky.  So let's chat about the "father crisis" in many communities in the U.S.
"Ten years ago, I cut out this article from the Wall Street Journal paper edition.  I saved it and look at it from time.  It was written by Juan Williams, author and Fox News contributor.  It is "The Tragedy of America's Disappearing Fathers":
The extent of the problem is clear.
The nation's out-of-wedlock birth rate is 38%.
Among white children, 28% are now born to a single mother; among Hispanic children it is 50% and reaches a chilling, disorienting peak of 71% for black children.
According to the National Center for Health Statistics, nearly a quarter of America's white children (22%) do not have any male in their homes; nearly a third (31%) of Hispanic children and over half of black children (56%) are fatherless.
This represents a dramatic shift in American life.
In the early 1960's, only 2.3% of white children and 24% of black children were born to a single mom.
Having a dad, in short, is now a privilege, a ticket to middle-class status on par with getting into a good college.
"Kids suffer without a father, no matter their color or last name.
"Father's Day is here.  Let's remember a simple truth: we need men to be responsible fathers."
