Letter: Sanctuary cities are reaping what they sow | Editorial | riponpress.com
"Aren’t New York City and DC sanctuary cities?
" 'So why is NYC’s Mayor Adams and DC’s Mayor Browser upset that Texas Governor Abbott is transporting buses of illegal aliens to their cities?
"Abbott invited both mayors to the southern border to see firsthand how “[southern border towns] are being overrun by people illegally crossing.”
"Their response was, “…instead of a photo-op, we hope Governor Abbot will focus his energy and resources on providing support to asylum seekers…”
"In 2019, Adams said, “NYC will remain a sanctuary city.”
"But now he is saying, “…Abbott is anti-American. ... He is betraying American ideals.”
"Adams had the audacity to ask for federal funding because of the illegal immigrants bused to NYC.
"Browser said when she was elected, “We respect all DC residents no matter their immigration status.”
"But now she is saying, “[the number of migrants] has reached a tipping point…local taxpayers should not pick up the tab.”
"Biden’s policies and those in sanctuary cities cause this unprecedented increase in illegal immigration. 4,000 people daily — on average — illegally enter, so why should border town citizens pick up the tab?
"Why should sanctuary cities receive federal resources to fund housing, medical care, education, etc., for people who enter illegally when border towns don’t?
"More than 2 million people illegally entered this fiscal year according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. There are still 2 months left this fiscal year.
"This doesn’t even include the estimated 1 million “got aways.” And 1.8 million people illegally crossed in fiscal year 2021.
"How else can Abbott get Biden and the Democrats’ attention?" . . .
