“The soft bigotry of Joe expectations.”

Power Line  The estimable James Lileks—the third greatest living Minnesotan after John and Scott—has come up with the perfect one sentence slogan about the hapless nominee of the Democratic Party: “The soft bigotry of Joe expectations.” File that one away and use it often.
. . .
I thought sure this headline was from The Babylon Bee, but no, it is a true news story:
"Please nobody tell Joe Biden. He’ll add this to his national mask mandate that he doesn’t have the constitutional power to impose, but what’s a little piece of paper when there’s a pandemic."
Biden is no more of a unifying figure than Obama or Bush (I’ll concede on Trump). There is no reason to believe he would do for unity what these two presidents didn’t.  . . ."In fact, there’s good reason to believe that America would be even more divided under Biden than it is now. Biden has tilted far to the left. If he were to govern that way, resistance would (and should) be fierce. If, instead, he were to move towards the center, he wouldn’t even be able to keep the Democratic Party united. Nor would (or should) Republicans unite behind a center-left presidency." . . .

Too Much Green Power Worsening Blackouts

Tony Branco
California Political Review  "The wave of power outages in California during the heat wave of 2020 are mostly in the PG&E power grid area where 21 local green energy-buying cooperatives (called Community Choice Aggregators) are buying green power and green jobs for their communities. These co-ops buy power for 10 million customers in 170 cities and counties and their goal is 100 percent green power by the 2030’s.
"California depends on 25 percent imported power, mainly hydropower, from other states. However, the grid operator has been unable to buy much imported power during the regional heat wave. The only remedy for this problem is a diverse mix of power sources with green power no more than 20 to 30 percent of the mix. This heat wave shows the folly of shifting to 100 percent green power during hot spells.
"Even Gov. Gavin Newsom has been forced to admit green power falls short and blames planners. But the power grid has been deregulated and decentralized to allow local communities to buy their own power, resulting in a lack of diverse enough power sources during hot weather.

"Source of Power Outages Claim to be Unknown

"The New York Times of August 16 reports that “Rolling Blackouts in California Have Power Experts Stumped.” Bill Powers, a San Diego power engineer stated, “This should not have caused blackouts.”
"The technical reason for the rolling blackouts was the California Independent System Operator (Cal-ISO) could not find enough power reserves from out-of-state hydropower suppliers after three in-state power plants had to shut down and wind power dropped as it typically does during the daytime.
"The reason for the high demand for electricity is obviously the heat wave combined with humidity that spiked the temperature to 130-degrees in Death Valley. This resulted in a Stage 3 alert where mainline electric utilities had to ask customers to curtail use or they would start cutting power by rolling blackouts. The ISO asserted it was not grid congestion or downed power lines from wildfires, but a true lack of available power plants to come online when other plants failed, causing the shortage.
"Contributing to the blackouts was that California depends on 25 percent of imported power from other states, mainly hydropower to reduce smog in air basins. But the entire southwest was hot leaving little surplus power available.

America's leading white supremacist announces his surprise endorsement

Andrea Widburg "One of the most revolting things about Joe Biden's candidacy is his dishonest insistence that Donald Trump called white supremacists "fine people."  Democrats have successfully used this hoax to brainwash large parts of the American public into believing that Trump and his supporters are racists and anti-Semites.  One wonders, therefore, how much consternation there is in Biden campaign headquarters now that Richard Spencer, one of America's best known neo-Nazis, is all in for Biden.
"To fully appreciate what should be one of the biggest stories in the presidential campaign, there are two things you need to know: (1) who Richard Spencer is and (2) what the "fine people hoax" is.
Richard Spencer
"Richard Spencer is an unapologetic neo-Nazi.  He's frequently seen giving Nazi salutes, quoting Nazi propaganda, and making openly anti-Semitic statements.  He thinks Haitians should be re-enslaved and that racial minorities should be removed from America.  Not surprisingly, his wife has accused him of verbal and physical abuse.  He is a terrible human being.
"Spencer organized and was a featured speaker in at an August 2017 rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.  That fact brings us to the...
Fine People Hoax
"Spencer was in Charlottesville in August 2017 for a Unite the Right rally that saw neo-Nazis parading through the streets shouting anti-black and anti-Semitic slogans.  The reason that the neo-Nazis descended on Charlottesville was that the town was contemplating pulling down a famous statue of Robert E. Lee.
"The debate over the statue meant that Charlottesville saw a convergence of Black Lives Matter–supporters, white supremacists, people who opposed the Confederacy but who also objected to willy-nilly tearing down signs of America's history, and people who were curious about the whole event. While the protest was at its height, James Alex Fields, one of the white supremacists, drove his car into a crowd, killing Heather Heyer.
"Because the media had already tarred Trump as a racist based upon his promise to enforce existing laws regarding America's southern border, they naturally asked him about the events in Charlottesville.  Trump expressed his concern about deconstructing America's past — comments that proved to be remarkably prescient when one looks at the Black Lives Matter and Antifa madness in June and July." . . .

Scott Adam’s Epic Rant Excoriating Biden For His “Fine People” Race Card Hoax

Bookworm Room

"On Aug. 20, Joe Biden gave a short acceptance speech for the Democratic nomination.  So low were expectations that when Biden managed to get through the speech without drooling on himself or forgetting where he was mid-sentence, the MSM deemed it a great success.  It should be noted though, that about half-way through the speech, Biden went as low as one can go, playing the race card, accusing Trump of promoting racism at Charlotte, N.C. three years ago:
. . . Just a week ago yesterday was the third anniversary of the events in Charlottesville.Remember seeing those neo-Nazis and Klansmen and white supremacists coming out of the fields with lighted torches?  Veins bulging? Spewing the same anti-Semitic bile heard across Europe in the ’30s?Remember the violent clash that ensued between those spreading hate and those with the courage to stand against it?Remember what the president said? There were quote, “very fine people on both sides.”It was a wake-up call for us as a country. . . .
"This is pure bulls**t.  And in an epic rant, Scott Adams, who has been screaming for years about the patent falsity of this hoax, calls Biden on it in no uncertain terms." . . .

Kim Jong Un reportedly in a coma as his sister Kim Yo Jong takes control

NY Post

"North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un has fallen into a coma, a former South Korean official is claiming on the heels of reports that the northern leader has ceded over some of his power to his younger sister.
"Chang Song-min, a former aide to late-South Korean president Kim Dae-jung, has alleged that the Hermit Kindom’s honcho has become seriously ill amid speculation about his limited public appearances this year, the Mirror reported.
“ 'I assess him to be in a coma, but his life has not ended,” he told South Korean media.
"The former aide added that the leader’s younger sister, Kim Yo Jong, was poised to help lead the country.
“ 'A complete succession structure has not been formed, so Kim Yo-jong is being brought to the fore as the vacuum cannot be maintained for a prolonged period,” he said.
"His claims come after South Korean spies revealed that the 33-year-old sibling now serves as his “de facto second-in-command,” though she has not been designated his successor." . . ."

EPA cracks down on 'ideologically driven regulations'

What most Americans do not know (and those who do know routinely ignore this) is that currently, improving technologies and practices are already reducing emissions of all pollutants, even methane. Methane emissions from energy have declined 30% since 1990, despite a 43% increase in U.S. energy production over that time.  . . .

By Jason Isaac, Real Clear Energy: "Last Thursday, the EPA announced the adoption of new environmental standards that will reduce overburdensome regulations on methane emissions from oil and natural gas operations. While the climate alarmists will scream that the end is near, the EPA estimates the new regulations will increase methane emissions by only a few percent over the next 5 years. And it represents an important shift in the EPA’s stance on whether it should regulate greenhouse gases (GHGs) other than carbon dioxide (CO2).
"Methane, commonly called natural gas, is a greenhouse gas naturally produced in wetlands and in animal digestion processes. Natural gas is also the source of a third of America’s energy and is sometimes emitted in small quantities as it is produced and consumed.
"While environmental groups deride methane as a “super pollutant” because it traps 25 times as much heat as CO2its climate impact is inconsequential. It is 200 times more dilute in the atmosphere as CO2 and is emitted at 1/200th the rate of CO2. Even if the U.S. eliminated all its methane emissions by 2050, climate models estimate that the effect on average global temperature by 2100 would be 0.03°C. This change is nearly one-fifth the size of the error range of global temperature measurements—and irrelevant within the context of expected temperature rises of 1°C or greater." . . .

Democrats Refuse to Condemn Riots, Crime During Convention

Breitbart

"Democrats failed to condemn recent political violence and rioting across the nation, as they avoided the topic throughout the four days of the Democratic National Convention.
"Former Vice President Joe Biden never mentioned the riots during his speech accepting the Democratic Party’s nomination for president on Thursday evening. Nor did any other speaker.
"Instead, Democrats talked about “peaceful protests” and claimed, falsely, that President Donald Trump had used “tear gas” to disperse demonstrators near the White House.
"The only time violence was mentioned was in connection with riots in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017 — with Biden repeating the Charlottesville “very fine people” hoax.
"The history of the civil rights movement also briefly described violence in the 1960s, as non-violent protesters were beaten by police — under the authority of Democrats, who ran the segregationist Jim Crow South.
"Violent riots continued nightly in Portland, Oregon, throughout the DNC. One man was kicked in the head and left bleeding on the street by a left-wing rioter early Monday morning, before the convention began.
"Previously, Democrats had claimed that the protests in Portland had been peaceful, and that President Trump’s decision to send federal law enforcement to protect a courthouse was responsible for the escalation. But the rioting began before the feds’ arrival, and has continued since their withdrawal." . . .

More details and arrests in the case of the hat-stealing Biden women

These women are also willing to engage in violence because, despite their abandonment of traditional codes of femininity, they expect men to continue to respect the cultural prohibition against striking women. This double standard appears in the video when one of the women strikes Taylor, and he doesn’t retaliate.
Andrea Widberg "A story ripped through the conservative blogosphere on Friday: Two young women stole and destroyed anti-Biden signs, stole and threw away a MAGA hat that a young boy was holding, verbally abused the young boy, and then threw punches at the people trying to recover their property.
"New information about the event emerged on Saturday, and it revealed that the women were even worse than we thought. However, it also shows that conservatives are fighting back.
"In case you haven’t seen it, here’s the video showing those disturbing events playing out (language warning):
Moments ago outside of the DNC convention, Joe Biden supporters attacked a 7 year-old boy. He was attacked simply because he wore a @realDonaldTrump hat. His name is Riley. Watch it happen. Listen to him cry. Will Joe condemn this violence against Children?

Five ways the Democrat convention backfired on Joe Biden, benefitting Donald Trump

Monica Showalter  "Has President Trump just eaten Joe Biden's lunch?
Sure looks that way based on multiple indicators flashing pro-Trump signals in the wake of the Democratic National Convention. Sure, the leftist press is reporting that Biden's favorability numbers have notched up in the wake of his curiously gaffe-less convention speech, but it's thin gruel. Fact is, that's the only thing they have.
"But if you look mostly on the right column of the front page of RealClearPolitics, it's pretty clear the trend is President Trump's friend. Apparently the artifice and over-processed convention infomercial, with its many technical sleights of hand (see here and here), didn't fool the voters. And if it did, not all that many of them watched. Television ratings were down 12% over the previous four-year period. America has more than 150 million registered voters, and only 22 million bothered to watch.
"The news was all good for President Trump, who got a rise in his approval ratings in the polls. According to Clarice Feldman's column today:
The President’s approval rating on Rasmussen was 47% as the convention began. Once underway it soared to 51% and has stayed there.
"And the left is scrambling to cover for it. "Don't be surprised if Biden doesn't get a bounce in the polls..." writes Washington Post columnist and swamper Karen Tumulty, citing the low televisiom viewership. More important, the Democratic Party platform is likely an issue, what columnist Peggy Noonan called the Trump vs. the "what the other guys will do" problem. The Democratic platform promised, in couched and sugary terms, more lockdowns, higher taxes, anti-industry, fewer cops and more illegal immigrant policies, all of which was a turnoff for voters. Biden may have delivered a much-praised speech and raised his favorability ratings because of it but the voters weren't buying the package. The result? Trump just walked off with the convention bounce.
