The Bee Explains: How Soccer Works

Babylon Bee

"The 2026 FIFA World Cup is being hosted in the United States for the first time since 1994. But what should be a cause for celebration is, instead, confusing a lot of Americans who can't quite seem to grasp the nature of the game. Thankfully, The Babylon Bee is here to compile all the facts you need to understand the obscure sport of soccer."

"WHAT IS IT?

Soccer, or fĂștbol as it's often erroneously called, pits two teams of twenty against each other in a rectangular arena to see who can put a ball in the other team's goal the most times.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

The game takes place over a series of rounds called halves. Each half is supposed to take 45-minutes, but they never do. The game clock often goes beyond the elapsed time for no discernible reason, giving players an additional opportunity to casually jog around on the grass.

HOW DO YOU PLAY?

Players must work as a team to overwhelm the opposing team's goalie and symbolically murder him through the scoring of goals.

There are several key positions:

  • Center — This guy is in the center.

  • Forward — This guy is further forward than the center.

  • Sweeper — This guy sweeps the field near their goal to make sure nothing will trip his teammates.

  • Goalie — This guy is in the goal and protects it, keeping the other team from scoring. He also gets to wear special gloves.

  • Other — Everyone else takes up this position, and kind of just runs around the field in random directions. They can also chase butterflies and catch them for extra points.

As players compete for possession of the soccer ball, they must also adhere to several arbitrary rules meant merely for philosophical introspection. These include the offside rule (with an imaginary line that follows a player's heart), out of bounds, and the use of hands.

HANDS?

Though commonly called "fĂștbol" internationally, the sport often employs the use of knees, chest, and head for some reason. Hands are strictly off limits, except when they're not. A foul is typically not called unless a soccer player first announces, "I am going to use my hands!" and then proceeds to do so.

HOW ARE FOULS RULED?

In place of referees or umpires, the sport employs the use of on-field schoolteachers who reprimand poor players by assigning them devastating yellow or red report cards to shame them into submission.

IS IT A DANGEROUS SPORT?

Only for the audience. Soccer is unique in that it takes place both on and off the field (or "pitch," as it's called to honor baseball, the only sport invented by God). Audience members take part in the event themselves as if it were an interactive show. A team's fans must, by necessity, shout down opponents in an attempt to destroy them, or their team will lose style points.

The outcome of the match, win or lose, leads to a riot. This is a strict rule observed by all true soccer fans.

I DON'T THINK I UNDERSTAND THIS GAME

Well, this article explained it perfectly, so that's on you."

Fonda and Joy Reid dared call President Trump "Racist"!

Bette Midler, Robert De Niro mocked for anti-Trump concert in NYC

Joy Reid goes on most unhinged, racist rant yet: ‘mediocre white men’ never invented anything   . . . "According to these two idiots, white people are parasites, riding the coattails of incredible black intellectuals and inventors. Naturally, Ali and Reid didn’t name any specifics about who these achieving blacks were, because of course, this is a fictitious narrative. (If they had name-dropped Thomas Sowell or Booker T. Washington, I would have actually heard them out.)
"Here’s this, per Hall:
‘These people cannot create culture on their own,’ Ali said. ‘Without Black people, Brown people, the DEIs, there’s no culture in America. We make the food better. We make the economy better. We make the music better. Right? MAGA can’t create culture. They got Cracker Barrel and Kid Rock.’

"An America without black people would mean rates of theft, rape, and murder would drastically drop—statistically speaking. If there were no blacks, every state would essentially look like Vermont, known as “the safest” state, which has a black population near zero (1.6%). And without DEIs it means we’d restore systems based on merit, meaning everything from services to products would be better, for everybody." . . .

"If “these people” (meaning whites) “cannot create culture on their own,” then how do they explain the gloriousness of Europe? (And, America is simply an extension of European peoples and the Christian values conceived there, built for European progeny.). . .

In what universe could professedly anti-racist Hollywood elderly invite the bitter bigotry of Joy Reid? Not occasional racist opinions but ones woven throughout all she is, feels and declares.

Cornell student who said he's 'not interested in working for a Jew' is given $11k from supporters

 UK Daily Mail

"Young Mr. Franco sounds like he experienced FAFO. His parents should have taught him some manners. A simple “I’m not interested” would have prevented all of this." Reader comment...

"A Cornell student caught in a whirlwind of controversy after declaring that he was 'not interested in working for a Jew,' has received more than $11,000 from supporters who blamed Jewish people for trying to 'ruin' his reputation.

"Austin Franco, 19, sparked a fierce debate on social media after he turned down an interview at a tech start-up over the founder's Jewish faith.

"Gabe Einhorn, the 24-year-old chief executive of VryfID, an anti-fraud platform, jumped on X to share the message he received from Franco on the college career platform Handshake.

"He included a screenshot of Franco's comments, which read: 'Not interested in working for a Jew. Thanks.'

"Yet, after receiving mountains of backlash over his comments, supporters began appearing and rallying behind the Ivy League student.

"A GiveSendGo was even made for Franco, which garnered over $11,400 as of Monday afternoon.

"An account on X, which operates under the username Lord Miles, said he created the fundraiser and wrote: 'I’ve created a givesendgo with 100% of proceeds going to him. jews are doxxing this man and trying to ruin his career. I cannot let that happen.'

"The user, who is known for controversial content, verified an X account previously believed to be connected to Franco, which has a bio that reads, 'Standing by my principles: honor, integrity, and loyalty.'" . . .  More...

Victory in Iran

 Don Surber

"Cuba is next. I doubt we’ll kill many leaders and we cannot destroy their air force, navy and air defense because they don’t exist. We could land troops, but why? Cuba needs foreign investment, not Army Rangers."

"Move over, Marilyn Monroe. Your happy birthday to President Kennedy is nothing compared to Trump ringing in his 80th with a UFC bout, the Marine Corps Band and a flyover by the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels over the mall with its restored reflecting pool that no longer suffers the aftermath of the Kenyan Klown’s benighted presidency.
"Also on Sunday, Iran’s third-string regime waved the white flag and gave up.
"Epic Fury was well-named. In 38 days, America stripped a nation of 92 million people of its military.
"We have not had as decisive a military victory since the Persian Gulf War. We did so with Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman AND Israel on our side.
"If someone told you this 10 years ago, you would have thought them crazy. Arab Muslims supporting Israel against a Muslim nation? Get out of here. Donald Trump saw it as a challenge. He launched the Abraham Accord to bring Jews and the Muslims together.
"It worked.
"Yes, we lost 13 troops in the fighting—but that just happens to be the number of troops Joe Biden lost in surrendering the Ba[g]ram airport in Biden’s faile[d] retreat from Afghanistan. Biden left behind at least $8 billion worth of military hardware behind.
"The Pentagon estimates we killed 6,000 Iranian military personnel, we sank 150 Navy vessels and we destroyed most of Iran’s 350 aircraft. Many of its planes never left the ground. We took out Iran’s air defense.
"A year earlier, Operation Midnight Hammer buried Iran’s nuclear program under three mountains. Here’s a shovel and a pick. Good luck digging it out.
The main thing is that Iran will not have a nuclear weapon!
They fully agreed to that with strong POLICING powers and they won’t have a nuclear weapon, which is what it was all about because they probably would have used it if they had it.
So we had two big moments when we terminated the JCPOA, that was the Obama deal, the Barack Hussein Obama deal.
And when I terminated, that was very important because it was a road to a nuclear weapon. It was a horrible deal for the United States. It was a deal where billions of dollars was given to Iran.
"The president later tweeted, “Iran has agreed to never have a Nuclear Weapon! Also, the story that the U.S. is paying Iran 300 million Dollars is Fake News, put out by the Dumocrats!!! President DJT.” . . .  More...

James Talarico did WHAT?! Talarico has more backpedaling to do.

Mike McDaniel

"Back on June 3, in Talarico is polling ahead—in Texas?!  I noted that his Republican opponent for the US Senate, Texas AG Ken Paxton, was using the underhanded tactic of letting Talarico talk. I wrote in part:

Talarico is now a real meat eater, recently filmed munching a big chunk of BBQ while wearing a Texas flag shirt, but in 2022, while wearing a mask (?!), announced his campaign was vegan to fight the “existential climate crisis." These days, he’s all for developing Texas oil and gas, and ready to fight his own party over that, but his own previous words say the opposite, including mandating climate hoax curricula in public schools. He said, “Our trans community needs abortion care too.” Jesus was a radical feminist, and there are six genders. “God is non-binary.” “The American flag is a complicated symbol for most of us,” and of course, he’s for open borders.

That’s not going to work very well in Texas, and now we learn from Elizabeth Stauffer at Legal Insurrection, there are even more reasons for Texans to vote against Talarico:

The Washington Free Beacon reported that Texas Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico worked for six years as an “equitable education” consultant for a company that designed DEI plans for Texas public schools. He began working for MAYA Consulting in 2019 and left one month after launching his Senate campaign last year. He earned more than $83,000 from the company in 2025.

MLB Continues Shameful Anti-Christian Crusade—Threatens Players Over Bible Verses on 'Pride Night' Caps

I lost much interest in football over the players kneeling during the National Anthem, soccer (What interest there might have sprouted) from that disgusting US women's team, and now the great American game, Baseball. What's left; quilting? Lawn Bowling? TD

RedState

"In reality, this isn’t about rule violations. It’s about whose beliefs MLB is willing to tolerate. The message to Christian players is crystal clear: your faith is unwelcome on the field."

"That warning is backed up by a statement given by Pat Courtney, MLB’s chief communications officer, to Outsports."

"In yet another display of its ongoing war on Christian faith, Major League Baseball has issued an official warning to three San Francisco Giants pitchers who dared to write Bible verses on their Pride Night caps.

And by 'warning' we mean threat, because what follows a warning in sports? Most likely a fine. Or, you know, as per Rule 3.03 of the official MLB Rulebook, a non-conforming player can be barred from participating in the game.

While the league under Commissioner Rob Manfred eagerly green-lights rainbow alterations and perpetually bows to the LGBT alphabet mafia, it is drawing a firm line at players subtly referencing God’s word.

It's shameful. Utterly shameful.

According to The Athletic, MLB is putting its collective foot down after San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Landen Roupp and two of his teammates dared to add Bible verses to their 'Pride Night' caps. Bible verses, mind you, that explain the true symbolism of the rainbow—God's covenant with Noah, his descendants, and every living creature after the great flood.

"Similar behavior will not be tolerated," the report ominously reads.

Champagne Socialism Comes to America

 The American Spectator

"The young Americans drawn to socialism are not our opponents; they are our neighbors, and the best answer to their very real anxieties is not to dismiss them, but to make the case, with clarity and conviction, that economic freedom has done more to solve the problems they care about than any government program ever has or will."

"Socialism doesn’t just fail economies; it fails people, creating victims of the very people it promises to help. It separates effort from reward, replaces personal responsibility with political dependence, and displaces our rich civil society motivated by neighborliness and a commitment to the common good with an ever-expanding state. Yet the polling suggests that 62 percent of Americans ages 18 to 29 now view socialism favorably. It is important to understand this trend, but equally important to understand what it does to them and to us when we let it take root.Young Americans are increasingly enamored with socialism and even communism. Yet this is at odds with a more recent Gallup survey suggesting that, while positive views of capitalism have fallen from 61 percent in 2010 to 54 percent in 2025, 95 percent of Americans viewed small businesses positively, and 81 percent viewed free enterprise positively. The disconnect is that you cannot have one without the other. The only type of entrepreneurship — a hallmark of an unfettered economy — you get in socialism is political entrepreneurship fueled by envy, which is institutionalized by policies executed with a patina of equity but that result in class divides and zero-sum games.
"It may be easier to understand why older generations do not have the same affinities for central economic planning. They saw the threat of the Soviet Empire as it marched across Europe and of Mao’s takeover of China, resulting in the largest manmade famine in history. Perhaps for those generations, it is easier to connect socialism’s outcomes to its promises. But thankfully, the Soviet threat is gone, and China’s brief embrace of market reforms under Deng Xiaoping in the 1980s produced the largest poverty reduction in a single country in history, proof that even a little capitalism saves lives. That China is now retreating from those reforms should serve as its own warning.
"No serious economist, political theorist, or public intellectual is arguing that we should return to the good old days of Vladimir Lenin, characterized by random executions, show trials, and labor camps. Still, it’s not 1989 anymore. There is no wall to tear down, and the creeping threat of socialism comes from the well-educated young generation of homegrown champagne socialists. Our flirtation with socialism is dangerous and internal. They decry capitalism as they rage-tweet from laptops while sipping on fair-trade lavender-infused matcha lattes.
"Nobel laureate F. A. Hayek won the intellectual debate on the impossibility of socialism, and dedicated his 1944 book The Road to Serfdom to “the socialists of all parties.” This is not only a problem of the progressive left. The progressive right is alive and well, seeking equity stakes in American companies like Intel in the name of national security and Spirit Airlines in the name of jobs. Political entrepreneurship pays big dividends on both sides of the aisle, and the instinct to use government power to pick winners and losers is the same impulse regardless of party." . . . More...

FBI arrests 5 people in connection with drone attack plot against White House UFC Freedom 250 event

"The FBI thwarted an explosive drone attack against Sunday’s UFC Freedom 250 event on the White House South Lawn and have already taken five suspects into custody, it was revealed Tuesday.

"The multi-phase terror attack allegedly involved using explosive-laden drone aircraft to strike buildings in the vicinity of the event, sparking mass panic and driving the fleeing crowd toward a sniper team poised to pick them off, officials told Fox News Digital.

"A “second wave” of attackers then allegedly planned to storm the White House gate, officials said." . . .

"Upon investigating a suspect’s iPhone, authorities found at least 23 users of encrypted chat app Signal involved in discussing parameters of what could have been a devastating terror attack in the heart of the nation’s capital.

"A suspect told investigators the goal of the attack was to target “capitalist elites,” “billionaires” and politicians who received money from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), according to the outlet.

Trump's White House UFC fight target of 'explosive drones' plot with 'staged snipers' designed to kill thousands, FBI says | Daily Mail Online   "The FBI thwarted an alleged plot to use drones and sniper teams to harm attendees at Sunday's UFC Freedom 250 celebration at the White House, according to federal officials.

"The suspected masterminds planned to use explosive drones to hit buildings nearby to cause confusion and force an evacuation of the event, the officials told Fox News

"Then, during the scramble, the plotters allegedly hoped that attendees would be steered towards their sniper team in waiting, the officials added.

"After that, the suspects allegedly planned a 'second wave' attack that involved rushing the White House gates, officials revealed.

"As of Monday, five people were taken into custody in connection with the plan. Investigators have identified 23 people potentially involved in planning.

"The White House event drew around 4,300 attendees, including President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and countless other top Cabinet officials.

"Speaking at the G7 in France, Trump said he had not been told about the plot.

Democrats! Would you trust a deal with Iran if Talarico, Joe, Barack, or Kamala made it?

Talarico’s brand of liberation theology - American Thinker

"However, one might speculate that he harbors other destructive ideas that could percolate to the surface one day."

"The Left is currently engaged in a long march through religious institutions in a bid to inherit their moral standing. Mainstream churches were once a binding conservative force in communities. To the extent that they retain any relevance, they are now bastions of liberation theology, with an emphasis on inclusivity. It is not your imagination that the hallmark of a modern church is a rainbow-colored flag prominently displayed in front with a message board stating that Jesus welcomes all His children. However, just as the “Hate is not welcome here” sign in front of the lesbian-owned cafĂ© is off-putting to many potential customers, LGBTQ inclusivity messaging on church lawns has a similar effect on many potential churchgoers." . . .

Which Party Aligns More with Fascism? Debunking the Myths and Examining the Realities

 Lucid

"Additionally, fascist regimes used the media as a propaganda tool, much like how today’s mainstream media, largely aligned with the Democratic Party, promotes a singular narrative while silencing dissenting voices"

"In today's politically charged climate, accusations of fascism are thrown around with reckless abandon. The word "fascist" has become a political cudgel, often used by left-leaning politicians and media to demonize their conservative opponents, particularly the Republican Party. But if we examine history and the policies that define both fascism and Nazism, the question arises: which party in America today—Democratic or Republican—actually aligns more with the key elements of fascism?
Defining Fascism
"Fascism is a political ideology that emerged in early 20th-century Europe, primarily associated with Benito Mussolini’s Italy and Adolf Hitler’s Nazi regime in Germany. While each regime had its own particular characteristics, fascism generally involved the following key traits:
"Authoritarianism: Centralized control under a single leader or party, with little tolerance for political opposition.
Suppression of Free Speech: The use of state power to silence dissent, including the media, opposing political parties, and individual expression.
State Control of the Economy: While private property might technically exist, the government exerts significant control over industry, often through heavy regulation or government mandates.
Nationalism: A strong focus on national identity, often linked to militarism and xenophobia.
Opposition to Individual Rights: Subordination of individual freedoms to the needs of the state or the collective.
With these criteria in mind, let’s analyze which of America’s two major political parties aligns more closely with these fascist principles.
The Democratic Party: Big Government and Control
"Historically, and in practice today, the Democratic Party has embraced policies that expand the power of the federal government. Let's examine how some of these policies align with fascist principles:
  1. Authoritarian Tendencies:The Democratic Party has increasingly embraced authoritarian measures, especially during times of crisis. The COVID-19 pandemic saw Democratic governors and lawmakers enact sweeping mandates, from mask mandates to lockdowns, often sidelining legislative bodies and imposing rules by executive decree. In cities like New York and Los Angeles, Democratic leaders enforced some of the strictest pandemic-related restrictions in the country. While public health was cited as the rationale, the willingness to impose such heavy-handed controls with little room for dissent fits into the fascist framework of centralized power.
  2. Suppression of Free Speech:Perhaps the most alarming development in recent years has been the Democratic Party’s increasing alignment with big tech companies to control speech. Democrats have repeatedly called on platforms like Facebook, Twitter (now X), and YouTube to censor what they label “misinformation.” This isn't limited to fringe content—it often extends to political viewpoints they disagree with, as seen during the Hunter Biden laptop scandal, when Big Tech suppressed a story that could have had implications for the 2020 presidential election. By encouraging private companies to censor on behalf of the government, Democrats are engaging in practices that echo fascist suppression of dissent.
  3. Economic Control:While America does not have a fully state-controlled economy, the Democratic Party often pushes for policies that greatly expand the government’s influence over private industry. From heavy-handed regulations in sectors like energy (favoring green energy over oil and gas) to pushing for government-run healthcare, the Democrats’ vision is one where the government plays a dominant role in economic decision-making. This recalls Mussolini's “corporatism,” where private enterprise existed but operated under the heavy hand of the state, a hallmark of fascism.
  4. Opposition to Individual Rights:Democratic policies frequently place collective goals above individual freedoms. For example, the push for extreme gun control measures often undermines Second Amendment rights, which are central to the Republican view of individual liberty. Likewise, the party's policies surrounding free speech, compelled speech in the context of gender identity laws, and mandates around healthcare choices undermine individual autonomy.
The Republican Party: Small Government and Individual Rights   "In contrast, the Republican Party’s fundamental principles emphasize limited government, personal responsibility, and individual freedom—values that are diametrically opposed to fascism. Let’s take a closer look:" . . .  More...

Israel issues warning as Trump reaches deal with Iran

BREAKING: Trump Announces US-Iran Peace Deal Complete   "The U.S. and Iran have completed a peace deal, President Donald Trump posted on social media.

"Trump said in the Truth Social post that the Strait of Hormuz will open and the U.S. will remove its blockade." . . .

The upside is this is not a Democrat brokered deal.

"Now, just imagine how arrogant Khomeini and Khomeini’s spawn are. My point: I would not trust them to negotiate anything in good faith or count on their sticking to any agreement. President Trump and his extraordinary, most excellent military mavens and armed forces must already know with whom they’re dealing."  Phyllis Chesler

Israel issues warning as Trump reaches deal with Iran

. . . "An important unanswered question about the framework is what exactly will happen to the Strait of Hormuz.

"Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that the Strait will open with the signing of the deal on Friday, June 19, but it is unclear whether the agreement will give Iran control over the Strait regarding the collection of transit fees.

"Another source of confusion is the Iranian nuclear programme. According to Reuters, a US official said before the announcement of the framework that the agreement would eventually lead to the dismantling of the programme.

"However, a senior Iranian official has said that the deal would allow Iran to keep its nuclear programme." . . .

‘Sophie Of Dundee’ Has Been Vindicated, But It Won’t Change Anything In Britain

 The Federalist

"And probably nothing will, which is why Britain is still marching down the terrible road to civil war. When war comes, Britain’s leaders, who have lost all legitimacy through their indifference to the wishes of native Britons, will be entirely to blame."

"Last August, there was a shocking news story about a 12-year-old Scottish girl who pulled a hatchet and knife on an immigrant in Dundee. A video clip of the hatchet-wielding girl, with other terrified and angry girls shouting at the man to leave them alone, went viral.

The story made international headlines. The girl in the video was dubbed “Sophie of Dundee,” and for some, she became a symbol of everything that has gone wrong in Britain: a working-class child in an impoverished, post-industrial city, harassed by a predatory migrant man, reduced to carrying crude weapons to defend herself, abandoned by the institutions and authorities that were supposed to protect her. The whole tragic story of Britain was contained in that one video. I wrote at the time that these kinds of incidents, and the refusal of political leaders to acknowledge or take them seriously, were driving Britain toward civil war.

But plenty of others, including many in the corporate press and even the police and political leaders in Dundee, saw nothing more than a group of racist little guttersnipes threatening a migrant man simply because of the color of his skin. Indeed, the police initially arrested the girl for carrying a bladed weapon and issued statements saying that what was being shared on the internet was wrong, that the migrant man and his adult sister were the victims, not the girls.

Powerful politicians and major media figures mocked the story of the girls being attacked by a migrant as racist “propaganda slop,” and those who spread the story as “far-right.” The entire intellectual establishment, reacting instinctively with classist prejudice, accused anyone who supported the girls as “scum.”

But it turns out the story was true. The man, a 22-year-old Bulgarian named Ilia Belov, has been found guilty of sexually harassing and assaulting the girls. His sister, 20-year-old Nadjedzha Belova, previously pled guilty to assaulting a 13-year-old girl “by seizing and pulling her hair, dragging her to the ground, and striking her on the head to her injury during the incident.”. . .
