Trump In Davos; can you picture Kamala, Walz, Biden, or Obama in that same position?

"What you need to know:

  • US President Donald Trump says a framework for a deal has been formed regarding Greenland
  • The agreement, Trump says, means tariffs set for February 1 will not be imposed on European nations
  • The European Parliament has frozen the implementation of a trade agreement that had been reached following Trump's previous tariff threats
  • NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte says the Arctic needs to be protected from Russia and China . . .  More...

"We know news was likely to come out of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, this week, and it certainly has. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent absolutely roasted California Gov. Gavin Newsom, hilariously comparing him to a Ken doll, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told the elites that globalist orthodoxy was a failure, and Donald Trump vowed to make homeownership great again."

"But on Wednesday afternoon, even bigger news dropped: the president announced that he had negotiated the “framework” of a deal regarding Greenland, the autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark that he wants the U.S. to control to counter Russia and China. Because of the breakthrough, he also announced that he will not go through with tariffs on European countries that were scheduled to go into effect in early February.

"The president took to his favorite social media site, Truth Social, for the announcement:

. . . "The deal isn’t just about Greenland — it’s about the whole Arctic Region, Trump wrote: Based upon a very productive meeting that I have had with the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, we have formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region. This solution, if consummated, will be a great one for the United States of America, and all NATO Nations.

"When discussing Greenland, only properly oriented maps should be used.Any media that shows a traditional map implying that Russia and China are on the opposite side of the planet are purposefully misguiding the American public.Every sailor and aviator understands Great Circle Navigation - showing anything else is a lie."

"Europe will now avoid the steep tariffs Trump had planned for eight countries:" . . .More...

Giorgia Meloni's Greenland Gamble: U.S. Ties Over EU Tensions  . . . "However, one European leader, who has already maintained a good relationship with the American president, isn't letting anything like Greenland get in the way of her friendship with the USA, even if it causes her to take heat from her own political opposition. I am writing, of course, of Italy's Giorgia Meloni.

  •    Within the European Union, Giorgia Meloni has always taken a pro-Atlantic stance, accentuated by the Italian prime minister’s close relationship with Donald Trump. Since the Greenland crisis erupted, Meloni has insisted on the need not to sever ties with the American president, which has angered the Italian opposition, who accuse her of betraying Italy and Europe.
  •    On Thursday, January 22nd, the European Council is set to examine the activation of the anti-coercion instrument requested by French President Emmanuel Macron.
  •    In this highly tense context, Meloni is striving at all costs to maintain balance.

"Highly tense may be something of an understatement, but Meloni is managing to walk a pretty decent tightrope through all this." . . . More...

5 graphics that show Greenland's importance to Trump  "Its entire population would fit in a large sports stadium but Greenland’s current presence on the geopolitical stage is huge. DW takes a look at the reasons it's so coveted — from natural resources to climate change." Sticking with Climate still, hun?
