US Warns China on North Korea Policy

GlobalSecurity.org  "According to the unidentified U.S. official, Mr. Obama said, if Beijing does not help curb North Korea's nuclear ambitions, the United States will have to realign its forces to protect against a possible North Korean strike on American soil."
I say good for President Obama if he means it and sticks to his guns, er-oops, too violent an expression. The Tunnel Wall sincerely apologizes for using that term. But remember that Obama's base considers the ChiComs as good, U.S.- bad.

The Ball Is in America’s Court for Improving China-U.S. Military Relations From China

Hu Jintao’s Visit and the South China Sea: “Whose/Hu’s Core Interests?”  "Understanding what China wants to be in Asia and globally is a foundational question for U.S. policymakers. It is a question shared by our treaty allies in Asia—Australia, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, and Thailand—as well as the rest of Southeast Asia." From Jan 11, 2011

California Planning to Outlaw Fishing? (Updated)

Bully Pulpit  "California's trying to take the lead on marine protection with a new, and controversial, plan to ban or restrict fishing all along its Pacific coast. One of the excuses used to justify the new, over-reaching laws? Wait for it... Global Climate Change!"

Remember PETA and the Sea Kittens?  "We've got it from here. And we're going to start by retiring the old name for good. When your name can also be used as a verb that means driving a hook through your head, it's time for a serious image makeover. And who could possibly want to put a hook through a sea kitten?"

PETA Attempts To Make Fish More Adorable  ""PETA thought that by renaming fish sea kittens, compassionate people who would never dream of hurting a dog or a cat might extend that sympathy to fish, or sea kittens," PETA campaign coordinator Ashley Byrne says.
"Byrne says that rebranding fish as sea kittens was obvious."
And these people vote.

Animal Rights group's Latest Pigheaded Victory Causes Problems  "Many corpsmen will face a time when he or she will have to pack a gunshot wound, stop a bleeding artery, or cut into a fellow soldier to restore a breathing airway. It is during the first attempts at such procedures that most mistakes are made. I'd rather see it happen on a pig than on one of our military men or women."

House Republicans offer own healthcare legislation

LA Times  "The House passed a resolution Thursday instructing GOP committee chairs to write legislation that meets 12 criteria, including lowering premium costs, assuring access to coverage for people with preexisting conditions and increasing the number of insured Americans, all without raising taxes."

The Post-Tucson Era

Victor Davis Hanson  "Hillary Clinton was especially embarrassed: one day she was sermonizing on foreign soil in morally equivalent fashion about an American version of an “extremist”; the next day, her boss told the world that the only thing extreme about the killer was his own nihilistic madness (and by implication damned those vultures [e.g., Ms. Clinton included] who clumsily try to make political points from tragedy)."

Paul Ryan To Give GOP State Of The Union Response

Rep. Paul Ryan
Ace of Spades   "A very good choice I'd say. Ryan is an up and coming star who is now head of the House Budget Committee, so yeah, fiscal issues are going to be the main thrust of his talk.
"The last time Ryan went up against Obama was at the "Health Care Summit" and he pretty much schooled him. "

Krauthammer: GOP Must End, Not Amend, Dems' Reform

Investors.com  "Suppose someone — say, the president of the United States — proposed the following: We are drowning in debt. More than $14 trillion right now. I've got a great idea for deficit reduction. It will yield a savings of $230 billion over the next 10 years: We increase spending by $540 billion while we increase taxes by $770 billion.
By the always-puckish Rich Terrell
"He'd be laughed out of town. And yet, this is precisely what the Democrats are claiming as a virtue of ObamaCare."

House GOP begins long drive to dismantle Obamacare

Yes, Rep. Cohen - Obamacare is a takeover of our health care system    "The democrats have fully embraced the calls for civil discourse by comparing Republicans to Nazis. During the debate over repealing Obamacare Democrats continue to insist that Obamacare isn't a government takeover of health care and that portraying it as such is a lie. The repeatedly visceral and over wrought exaggerations remind me of the debates over welfare reform. At that time (1996) the Democrats were saying that such the reforms would throw millions of children into poverty and could even lead to starvation and rioting. Needless to say, nothing of the sort happened." Aaron Gee

Why We Provide for the Common Defense

Heritage  "In a luncheon speech to American business executives in which he urged the United States to recognize China’s claims over Tibet and Taiwan, Chinese President Hu Jintao said yesterday: “We do not engage in an arms race, we are not a military threat to any country. China will never seek to dominate or pursue an expansionist policy.” We certainly hope this is true. But our leaders must do more than just hope. As President George Washington asserted in his First Annual Message, the “most effectual means of preserving peace” is “to be prepared for war.”"

Education:  See how it relates to the above article."China will own much of our debt as a nation. The question is: how did this happen? How did we get to a point where our economy is no longer producing and thriving as it once was? Well the recent economic crisis obviously didn't help. It managed to wipe out every job that had been created in the 21st century in the United States. But even if we hadn't lost all of those jobs and had simply continued to march in place "the United States would have entered 2010 with 15 million fewer jobs than economists say it should have."  This according to a report in the National Journal . This leads us to believe that the problem started long ago. You would be correct. Nearly every single economist interviewed for this article in the National Journal pointed to one key factor: education. "

National Commission Spill Report: Too Anti-Drilling Instead of Anti-Spilling

GlobalWarming.org  "The administration-selected panel, dominated by anti-drilling activists but devoid of anyone with actual experience producing energy, proposes to pile new layers of red tape onto a process that already leaves much domestic energy off-limits and creates years of delays for [the] rest. It even includes measures that would virtually shut down new oil drilling in Alaska, though the spill occurred thousands of miles away and under very different conditions in the Gulf of Mexico."

2009 Nobel Prize winner Obama honors persecutor of 2010 Nobel Prize winner

Miami Herald  "Liu Xia hasn't been charged with a crime or even accused of any by Chinese officials. Still, for more than three months, state security has walled her off from the outside world for no discernible reason other than that she's married to Liu Xiaobo, this year's Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Liu himself is serving an 11-year prison term after he helped to draft a document that calls for more political freedoms in China."

Was Obama just kidding about 'civility'?

Thomas Lifson  "Rep. Steve Cohen ...is refusing to apologize for his words on the House floor likening GOP opponents of ObamaCare to Goebbels, and invoking the Holocaust. So far, neither Robert Gibbs nor President Obama has commented on this obvious slap in the face to the President's call for civility. This would seem to be an obvious opportunity for the President to triangulate and win over independents - a Sistah Souljah moment.  But..."   Also this from Rick Moran.

8 Days after AZ Shooting, Obama Ed Sec and Teacher Union Boss Promote “No Peace”

"Apparently oblivious to recent calls for civility, Obama’s Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and teacher union boss Randi Weingarten (who the union paid more than $600,000 in 2010) gave speeches in front of a “No Justice – No Peace” banner at Al Sharpton’s prayer breakfast."
