The Worst News Outlet of the Week - Who Dominated in Dysfunctional Coverage?

 Brad Slager

"The hysteria over President Trump razing the East Wing to start construction on a new White House ballroom consumed most of the media oxygen. You would think Trump was exhuming the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to have his family members interred on the site. "

CBS News –"The staff at 60 Minutes was horrified when Bari Weiss dared to ask them why so many in the American public think the show is biased. " . . .

New York Times -"Claimed the Letitia James case - where she is charged for the very thing she went after Trump over - was the result of “ruthlessness” on the part of the DOJ. Had an obituary for the East Wing.

ABC News – . . . "Bob Woodward hailed Jon Karl as “unbiased” to promote Karl’s FOURTH anti-Trump book. The network reported that Letitia James was indicted by “Trump’s handpicked U.S. attorney” (unlike…every other U.S. attorney who is handpicked by a president) and ignored that James was indicted by a federal grand jury." . . .

CNN – "The new female prime minister of Japan had to be described as a right-wing extremist and a “hardline conservative” (terms never used for politicians on the Left). ". . .

And the winner: MSNBC! But how could you not know that?

"With plenty of content being tossed around by many outlets, MSNBC made itself distinguished with particularly stunted hot takes on a number of issues.

'The geniuses on the Morning Joe panel were concerned that Abigail Spanberger faced the challenge of sexism in her election – while running against another female.

'As the controversy of Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner being found with a Nazi tattoo emerged, MSNBC managed to talk around the topic, while never addressing the actual issue of his being a Nazi sympathizer.

Jen Psaki insulted Usha Vance as a helpless hostage in her marriage to Vice President Vance, whom she called worse than Trump.

'Kurt Andersen guested on Morning Joe to compare the East Wing demolition to terrorism or a war scene.

'Jon Meacham declared the ballroom renovation was grounds to stage a revolution in the country

'Alicia Menezdez and Tom Nichols agree that the military taking out drug boats in Venezuela means Trump will soon target U.S. citizens. ' . . .

Gavin Newsom Is The Worst Governor In America

He admitted to having an affair with a staffer  From Gavin Newsom's Most Controversial Moments:  . . . "What made the whole situation messier was that Rippey-Tourk's husband, Alex Tourk, was Newsom's campaign manager. Alex confronted him, promptly resigned, and the then-mayoral candidate was left with no choice but to face the music." . . .

Did California just legalize child abduction?   "Imagine going to pick up your child from school and being told that he’d already been picked up earlier in the day.  The school doesn’t know who the person was that took your child with him, but he filled out the state-required paperwork, and so the school was required to release your child into his custody.  The police can’t help because it was all legal.

"This situation is now entirely plausible in California, where Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 495 into law on October 12.  This bill has sparked outrage among conservatives, parental rights advocates, and religious leaders, as it clearly endangers children and undermines God-given parental authority.  This legislation was ostensibly framed as a safeguard for immigrant families, but it opens dangerous loopholes that could facilitate child-trafficking and abuse.  It demands urgent action from parents and concerned citizens.

"AB 495 expands the use of the Caregiver’s Authorization Affidavit, which allows any adult claiming kinship “within the fifth degree” to make medical and educational decisions for a child without parental consent or verification." . . .

Newsom blames federal government [aka Trump] after illegal immigrant truck driver's fatal crash  Of course he did.

KJP "talks like a binder", so some say

spectator.org

'She can’t talk like a human being. She talks like a binder.' 'The Five' eviscerates KJP   "White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre’s inability to answer a single question about President Joe Biden’s classified documents scandal prompted a flurry of criticism and mockery from the co-hosts of Fox News’s “The Five.”
"On Friday’s episode of “The Five,” the co-hosts specifically zeroed in on the non-answer answers Jean-Pierre had supplied during a briefing earlier that afternoon." . . .

Other press secretaries also used binders, such as Kayleigh Mcenany, but with that they gave substantive answers and could reply to follow-up questions.

Karine Jean-Pierre's Disastrous MSNBC Interview Begins on Robert Hur and Ends on 'Black' and 'Queer'   "Karine Jean-Pierre hit the interview circuit over the weekend, and her old friends weren't in any mood to welcome her back into the fold. Once a frequent guest on MSNBC, the former White House press secretary faced a hostile reception as she was grilled about her complicity in covering up Joe Biden's physical and mental decline as president.

"One of the most egregious episodes during that time was Jean-Pierre's trashing of Robert Hur. As RedState reported at the time, the then-special counsel interviewed Biden over his allegedly illegal retention of classified documents following his stints as a senator and then vice president. In the end, it was determined that the former president was essentially too senile to be charged, with numerous memory lapses and cognitive issues being observed and documented by Hur.

"When all of that went public, the White House went into attack mode." . . .

Republicans Donate $50 Million To Kamala 2028 Campaign Provided Karine Jean-Pierre will be her press secretary.  Babylon Bee parody.

"U.S. — After word that Kamala Harris had not ruled out another Presidential run, Republicans have generously donated $50 million to her 2028 campaign.

"The donors stated that there simply was no one else that they would rather see representing the Democratic party.

" 'We love what Kamala brings to the table," said Republican donor Jerry Gondolin. "She has everything we want in a Democratic candidate. Honestly, I can't think of anyone better to give our money to. At least, since Joe Biden is unavailable."

"The Republican National Committee has also announced a matching donation up to $500 million for any Democratic donors who would like to support the cause. "If there's anything we can do to get Democrats on board with Kamala, count us in," said RNC chair Joe Gruters. "We would like nothing more than to partner with Democrats to make this happen. This is what real bipartisanship looks like."

"At publishing time, Republicans had asked all their registered members to please go ahead and put "Kamala 2028" signs in their yard."

How An "Untrained Cook" Took Down 4 Japanese Planes In One Afternoon

"December 7, 1941: Mess Attendant Doris "Dorie" Miller was collecting laundry on the USS West Virginia when Japanese aircraft attacked Pearl Harbor. Despite zero training on weapons, Miller manned a .50 caliber antiaircraft gun and fired at enemy planes until ordered to abandon ship. He became the first Black recipient of the Navy Cross. But the Navy sent him back to mess duty, and he died 22 months later on the USS Liscome Bay. This is the story of the untrained cook who became a hero—and what it cost him."

. . . "White later reported that Miller “didn’t know very much about the machine gun, but I told him what to do and he went ahead and did it. He had a good eye.”

"Lt. Cmdr. Johnson recalled Miller “blazing away as though he had fired one all his life.”

"Miller himself stated that “when the Japanese bombers attacked my ship at Pearl Harbor I forgot all about the fact that I and other Negroes can be only messmen in the Navy and are not taught how to man an antiaircraft gun.”

"Only when his gun ran out of ammunition and the critically damaged West Virginia began to sink did he cease firing, and only when Capt. Bennion was officially pronounced dead did the little group of officers and men abandon the ship’s bridge.

"Descending to the boat deck, Miller helped pull sailors from the burning water, unquestionably saving the lives of a number of men. By then, the ship was flooded below decks and rapidly settling in the harbor’s shallow water, and its senior surviving officer gave the order to abandon ship.

"Doris Miller was one of the last three men to leave West Virginia. He and his shipmates swam 300 or 400 yards to shore, avoiding patches of flaming oil from the battleship Arizona and strafing from Japanese planes.

"Miller later told his brother that “with those bullets spattering all around me, it was by the grace of God that I never got a scratch.”

"Even then, Miller helped scores of injured sailors to safety ashore." . . .

Who Was Doris Miller & Why Did He Have An Aircraft Carrier Named After Him?

. . . "As the Navy's fourth Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier, the USS Doris Miller has a future delivery date scheduled for February 2032. Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carriers span 1,092 feet from bow to stern, have 124 feet of beam, a flight deck width of 256 feet, and a cruising speed of 30 knots. One of the most significant improvements Ford-class carriers possess compared to older Nimitz-class carriers is the reduced number of crew members required for operation of the ship. The reduction is a result of 23 new or upgraded systems aboard the newer carriers."  Read More

The Dumbest Moment In The History Of MSNBC

Matt Walsh  "Have we finally experienced the dumbest moment in the history of MSNBC? It’s a high bar, or a low one, depending on how you look at it."

The promo for Medishare is by Mr. Walsh alone, so use your own judgment on that. The Tunnel Dweller does neither endorse nor reject comments on that. TD

Cheryl Hines Reveals First Lady Melania Trump Works “Quietly” to Re-Unite Children With Families

WLT Report   "On Friday, Tucker Carlson released a very enlightening interview with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s wife Cheryl Hines.

"During one awesome moment, she praised First Lady Melania Trump, particularly for the work she does behind-the-scenes to help children and re-unite those displaced by war with their families." . . .

If Cheryl Hines hadn’t married Bobby Kennedy, she might never have known just how cruel and intolerant Hollywood is.  If Cheryl Hines hadn’t married Bobby Kennedy, she might never have known just how cruel and intolerant Hollywood is. . . . "As Cheryl Hines noted, Melania doesn’t ask for recognition or praise for her efforts, so a lot of the work she does stays in the background.

"However, we did get a brief update on how she has helped re-unite Ukrainian children with their families a couple weeks ago.

"From Politico:

First lady Melania Trump said she has established an “open channel of communication” with Russian President Vladimir Putin in recent months, hoping to reunite children separated from their families during the war in Ukraine.

In one of her most substantive public remarks since her husband’s return to office, Trump said her representatives and Putin’s office have “participated in several backchannel meetings and calls, all in good faith,” about the welfare of children affected by the war.

“President Putin and I have had an open channel of communication regarding the welfare of children for the past three months,” Trump said, adding that both sides “agreed to cooperate with each other for the benefit of all people involved.”

Trump claimed that eight Ukrainian children have been reunited with their families in the past 24 hours as part of the initiative. Three of the children had been separated from their parents and displaced inside Russia due to front-line fighting, she said, while five others had been cut off from family members across borders since the early stages of the conflict.

The first lady said she had received documentation and photographs from Russian officials verifying the identities and conditions of the children involved, including a “verification report” prepared by the commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on human rights and the Russian presidential commissioner for children’s rights. The facts have been confirmed by the U.S. government, she said.

“This is an important initiative,” Trump said. “It is still on shared purpose and lasting impact. My ongoing mission is two-fold — to optimize a transparent, free-flow exchange of information surrounding all children who have fallen victim to this war and to facilitate the regular communication of children with their families until each individual returns home.”

We truly have the most caring First Lady ever.

She has a very big, genuine heart, and her compassion for children is unparalleled.

I’m very proud to have Melania Trump as my First Lady.

It’s Official: The Democratic Party Is Now Straight Up Socialist

Issues & Insights   "When socialist Zohran Mamdani won the New York City mayoral primary, we said that the concern expressed by some Democrats was phony, because they didn’t want to admit just how far left their party had drifted.

"Now, they’ve given up that pretense entirely.

"On Friday, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries endorsed socialist Mamdani, saying the 33-year-old trust fund baby “has relentlessly focused on addressing the affordability crisis and explicitly committed to being a mayor for all New Yorkers.”

"He’s the most senior-ranking Democrat to do so, but he joins a list that already includes Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and New York Attorney General Letitia James

"Jeffries tried to add a caveat that he and Mamdani have “areas of principled disagreement.” But he can’t have it both ways.

"Jeffries, and his party, are now officially on board with Mamdani’s socialist agenda, one he hopes to impose on a city that once stood for America’s financial might but will soon become the home base for radical anti-Americanism.

"Besides, as we pointed out in this space in July (see: “The Democrats’ Phony Freakout About "Mamdani”), party regulators were already on board with even Mamdani’s most radical proposals.

Think about what Mamdani has proposed or supported:

  • A yearlong freeze on rent
  • A $30 minimum wage
  • Free bus service
  • City-owned grocery stores
  • Defunding the police
  • Calling Israel’s war in Gaza a genocide.

‘Mainstream Democrats’ support every one of these positions in one way or another.

"But now the party has nowhere to hide. Either by silence or outright endorsements of Mamdani, Democrats have let the veil drop. The party of John F. Kennedy is now the party of Karl F. Marx.

"And when New York spirals downward in a cesspool of deprivation and hopelessness, as every socialist experiment invariably does, the public should never forget which party caused it to happen."

"Time for his critics to read up on White House history" Jeffrey Lord

Trump Administration Fires Back at Hillary Clinton Over White House Ballroom Renovations   . . . "Failed presidential candidate and former First Lady Crooked Hillary Clinton stole furniture from the White House on her way out until she was forced to return it," White House spokesman Davis Ingle told Fox News Digital. "Crooked Hillary is shameless and a total disgrace. Meanwhile, President Trump is restoring the White House to its proper glory for Americans to enjoy for generations to come — at no expense to the taxpayer — something we should all celebrate."

"Earlier in October, Clinton took a shot at President Trump, trying to rally supporters against the construction of the White House Ballroom, which will be entirely financed by the President and private donors." . . .

Trump the Builder Improves the White House   . . . "As a former White House staffer myself, I can certainly attest that, as the old building is currently structured, there is a decided limit to the size of crowds a president can welcome at a time. The famous East Room is not as big as some appear to think, and crowds of visitors, of necessity, spill out into the adjacent Green, Blue, and Red Rooms along with the State Dining Room and the grand Cross Hall.

"Trump, as noted, the sole builder to hold the presidency, has envisioned a considerably larger-sized ballroom that will allow presidents to entertain on a larger scale — something that is routine in the residences of various global heads of state.

"What is remarkable, if not surprising, is the apparent complete lack of knowledge by Trump critics of previous architectural changes to the building by Trump’s many predecessors.

"No one today gives a second thought to the endless flow of stories that reference the Oval Office or the West Wing without understanding that neither was part of the original White House.

"It was all the way back there in the turn of the 20th century — 1902 — that President Theodore Roosevelt authorized the razing of greenhouses that were eventually replaced by what we now know as the “West Wing.” The Oval Office as America has come to know it came to be in the term of TR’s successor, William Howard Taft.

Meet the Conservative Black Scholar Standing Up to BLM Dogma

The Daily Sceptic

"The Gay Affair: A Window into Academic Corruption . . . The intellectual theft was undeniable and symbolic of a culture that prizes ideology over integrity."

. . . "Her seminal 1993 book, Black Faces, Black Interests: The Representation of African Americans in Congress, broke with the prevailing orthodoxy of racial politics. It argued that genuine representation transcends race, a message that infuriated progressives but won widespread acclaim, including citations in US Supreme Court decisions.

"The book resurfaced 26 years later when evidence emerged that Harvard President Claudine Gay, who had long opposed Swain’s views, had plagiarised portions of it in her doctoral thesis. The plagiarism scandal, coupled with Gay’s handling of antisemitism on campus, ultimately led to her resignation in 2024. Swain chronicled this saga in her 2025 book The Gay Affair: Harvard Plagiarism and the Death of Academic Integrity, which exposes not only Gay’s misconduct but the deeper rot of academic corruption and ideological conformity within elite universities." . . .

"Having achieved everything academia could offer, Swain says she found herself deeply unfulfilled, until she rediscovered her faith in Christ. “After tenure and promotion, I was miserable,” she said. Swain suffered from depression and suicidal gestures. This was eventually overcome once she became a believer in Jesus. Her faith also cured her chronic shyness. Swain’s Christian conviction now anchors her fight against the ideological decay she sees in America’s universities.

"Swain also spoke about the growing backlash against Left-wing indoctrination on campus. “Major donors are withdrawing funding, parents are losing faith in universities, and many young people are turning to alternative forms of education,” she noted. “People are waking up.”    On Black Lives Matter and Moral Clarity:

"At the Cambridge Union debate, Swain’s critique of Black Lives Matter was as incisive as ever. She said:

Consider the fact that the slogan ‘Black Lives Matter’ is a true statement about the value of Black human life. BLM, the organisation, however, is a different animal. The two are not morally equivalent. BLM stated an intention to end systemic racism and police brutality — worthy goals to the extent these problems still exist — but its methods contradicted these aims.

"Despite facing a largely unsympathetic student audience, Swain and her fellow speakers ultimately prevailed — the motion was defeated by a large margin.

"Her victory, modest as it may seem, symbolised something larger: a growing weariness with progressive orthodoxy and a renewed appetite for moral clarity, intellectual honesty, and courage in public life." . . .More, Including several video clips of her Fenton interview....

How can Mamdani teach New York if electing de Blasio didn't"

"Mamdani is a national security threat. He should be investigated for his brash support for jihadism and his dangerous affiliations. He belongs on a terror watchlist, not in a mayoral race in the city where ideas like his flew into its buildings on September 11, 2001." . . . CF

American Thinker

 Defund Mamdani

. . . "This is the largest police department in the United States, with nearly 34,000 uniformed officers, but it is still understaffed. Proud men and women in blue with 20 or more years of service are expected to submit their retirement papers should Mamdani be elected. These dedicated officers will not want to work for a mayor who tweeted on October 23, 2020, “We need to elect a socialist city council to defund the NYPD.” . . .

The Shadow of Terror: Zohran Mamdani’s Radical Islam Problem  "New York City’s 2025 mayoral race has thrust Zohran Mamdani, a 33-year-old democratic socialist and New York State Assembly member, into the spotlight as the Democratic nominee. His candidacy, while historic as potentially the first Muslim and Indian-American mayor, raises serious concerns due to his (1) adherence to the Shi’a Twelver sect, (2) support of Hamas jihadist terrorists and its parent group, the Muslim Brotherhood, (3) rabid antisemitism, and (4) devastating economic implications of his socialist policies. Mamdani’s candidacy is a natural result of decades of failed NYC policies toward Islamists and jihadists, which have almost turned the city into a Muslim Brotherhood sanctuary. Mamdani’s candidacy is a symptom of a larger Islamist problem in NYC.

"While many American Muslims in New York City are patriotic and capable of great leadership, Mamdani’s religious and ideological stances demand scrutiny. Mamdani wants to rule New York City, but who rules Mamdani?

"New York City is home to over half a million Muslims, many of whom contribute significantly to the city’s vibrant fabric. Numerous Muslim leaders possess the vision, integrity, and capability to serve as mayor, championing policies that align with American values and the U.S. Constitution; however, Mamdani is not among them. He belongs on a terror watchlist and not in a mayoral race." . . .  More...

Y’all, All Y’all, and the Quest for a Second-Person Plural Pronoun

My wife's family, coming from Arkansas roots, would use "Y'uns" for "Y'all" TD

Word Smarts

"However you spell it, and however many people you’re referring to when you use it, “y’all” is a versatile and, some would say, better alternative to “you guys” or “you.' ”

"In the United States, “you guys” is one of the most commonly used second-person pronoun references, but “y’all” is all the rage. While “y’all” is still heard primarily in the Southern United States and nationwide in African American Vernacular English (AAVE), its usage has been on a dramatic rise since the late 20th century.

"The increasing popularity of “y’all” can be attributed to a variety of factors, including the mainstream use of AAVE in media, as well as the fact that “y’all” is a preferable gender-neutral alternative to “you guys.” “Y’all” also rolls off the tongue in a softer, warmer way than “you guys” or even “you all.” For instance, “You guys come back tomorrow” sounds clunky and even vaguely threatening, while “Y’all come back tomorrow” may be perceived as both friendlier and more inviting.

"The correct spelling places an apostrophe between the “y” and the “a,” as it’s a contraction of “you” and “all.” The pronoun got a nod from Dictionary.com in the summer of 2021 when it gave “y’all” its own entry, separate from “you-all.” The entry notes the word “now communicates an informal tone more than a regional identity, and one that has become popular among younger demographics for its inclusivity.” . . .  Much more here...

Why We Don’t Like The Democratic Party

And why many call it "Democrat" instead of "Democratic" as a means of disrespect. Historically the major party in the South of the Civil War and their secession. TD

 Issues & Insights

"The revolution that the Democratic Party has been pressing for at least six decades would abolish capitalism and free markets, seize the means of production, destroy the nuclear family, erase Christianity and Judaism, defund law enforcement, reopen the borders, censor speech, pack the Supreme Court, ration energy and health care, overturn our civil order and uproot Western civilization."

"In response to last week’s editorial “None Dare Call It A Republic,” one reader said I&I prefers “the term republic over democracy because” we “like the Republican Party” and “don’t like the Democratic Party.” Therefore we refuse to use the word “Democratic” because it “sounds just like the word ‘democratic.’” We can’t say we like the Republican Party, but we can say we despise the Democratic Party. Read on and we’ll tell you why.
"First, though, take a look at the reader’s full comment, found here. He calls us ignorant, which is fine – he’s entitled to his opinion. But his statement reminds us quite a bit of the gibberish yakked up by Joe Biden in last year’s presidential debate, which was so incoherent that in one instance Donald Trump said “I really don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence. I don’t think he knows what he said either.”
"But we understand enough of what our dedicated reader said to feel that it would be helpful to explain why we don’t like the Democratic Party, and not just so readers will understand but also to make it clear just how dissolute that party is.
"We could start with its lust for big government and all that comes with it: steep taxes, cruel regulation, appalling violations of property rights and an imperious and ever-hungry administrative state.
"Or we could frame our argument in terms of civil society vs. political society, with the Democrats hard in favor of the latter, which is a serial violator of liberty.
"Instead we’ll focus on what the Democrats want over all: a revolution." . . . More...

"This is why the “big tent” Democratic Party attracts disparate groups, such as environmental activists, eager central planners, redistributionists, anti-gun scolds, antifa goons, COVID tyrants, neo-New Dealers, radical Islamists, militant transgender moms, pride cultists, race hustlers, criminal coddlers, infanticide advocates, male-hating feminists, DEI zealots, busybodies, nannies, groomers, dancing geriatrics and raging protesters who have no idea what they’re protesting."
