Democrats cost Chicago $3 billion -

Philanthropy went with him when Ken Griffin left crime and taxes for Miami. A harbinger of the Failed State Victor Davis Hanson wrote of? Mamdani does not welcome Griffin to New York either

Don Surber

"After he left for Miami and took his company with him, he said, “I’ve lived in a failed city-state. I lived in Chicago for 30-some years. I had two colleagues who had bullets fly through their cars. I had 25 bullet holes in the front of my building where I lived. You can’t live in a city awash with violent crime."

"Yesterday, Carnegie Mellon University announced the gift of $3 billion from hedge fund capitalist Ken Griffin. The school said bluntly, “This investment in CMU is the largest-ever gift by an individual in the history of higher education.”
"A billion will go to CMU’s main campus in Pittsburgh, where Andrew Carnegie and Andrew Mellon made their fortunes and built their higher education institutions, which merged in the 1960s. The other $2 billion will go to the city in the background of the above photo of Mister Griffin.
"It’s not Chicago.
"Chicago is where he made his fortune. Instead the money will go to build a campus in Miami, where he fled to escape the violent crime and corrupt politics of Chicago in 2022.

"Politics is why Chicago has this:"

"But will not have this:"

. . . "Since moving Citadel to South Florida, Griffin has given:

  • $50 million to Baptist Health South Florida, the largest gift in the institution’s history, for research and treatments for neurodegenerative disorders.

  • $50 million to the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, to support groundbreaking cancer research and compassionate care.

  • $25 million to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital to support a new, state-of-the-art surgical tower and advance pediatric patient treatments and care."  More.

The New Panic Over AI Is Reminiscent of COVID-19 Hysteria

 Victor Davis Hanson

"Trump, who is a much more skillful diplomat than his globalist critics admit, has instead pursued bilateral negotiations with China over the real dangers both countries face. Those dangers were illustrated recently when an AI hallucination reportedly almost prompted a U.S. attack on a Chinese cargo ship."

"The midterm elections are six weeks away.
""Suddenly, a debate has erupted over the existential dangers of artificial intelligence. Jacob Coxon, a little-known Silicon Valley researcher who worked at OpenAI and Anthropic, resigned and went public with a dire warning: AI now threatens the future of the world.
""Shortly beforehand, news broke of the Hugging Face episode, in which OpenAI’s advanced AI “agents” autonomously hacked another company’s computers.
"Bedlam followed.
Weaponizing AI
"Almost on cue, Democrats seized on the alarm as a new cause celebre, accusing President Donald Trump and the MAGA movement of recklessly courting Armageddon.
"The Left demanded international treaties, ignoring the dismal record of such globalist projects: the League of Nations, the Kellogg-Briand Pact, the Washington Naval Treaty, the Versailles Treaty, the Munich Agreement, the Paris Climate Accord, and the U.N. Human Rights Council.
"Panicky AI executives soon joined the chorus, speaking as though they could neither control their companies nor monitor their own research.
"'Their conduct casts doubt on this safety rhetoric. Just yesterday came news that Anthropic had built a fully automated, AI-controlled biolab, even though AI-generated plagues are a staple of the doomsday case. OpenAI, meanwhile, is resisting legal liability for harm caused by its products.
"The familiar political script followed.
"Democrats in Congress demanded hearings. They are unlikely to use them to ask tech executives or administration officials serious questions. More likely, they will spend their allotted time shouting, wagging their fingers, displaying their ignorance, and spinning wild conspiracy theories.
"Sen. John Kennedy, who has proposed reasonable AI regulation for years alongside Republicans like Sen. Josh Hawley, recently observed that “the Democrats clearly are trying to politicize this.”
"The reaction to a June administration decision offered still stronger evidence. Both purportedly worried AI companies and Trump-hating AI-risk advocates objected when the administration barred Anthropic from giving foreign nationals access to its Mythos and Fable 5 models—models whose cybersecurity risks the company itself had publicized.
"With the trans delirium and the demonization of Immigration and Customs Enforcement losing force, however, the Left apparently needs a new existential crisis to blame on Trump before the midterms.
"This tactic—never letting a crisis go to waste—is hardly new. " . . . More.

Talarico Pledges in Video to Use Senate Seat to Fight for Trans Children

 Breitbart

“James Talarico can’t outrun his own radical record, and this bombshell video proves it,” Cercy said. “Now, even he admits his position ‘hasn’t changed.'”

"Texas Democratic U.S. Senate nominee James Talarico told a woman posing as a supporter on Sept. 13 that his position on transgender issues “hasn’t changed,” according to an undercover video clip.
"The recording, captured at Houston’s Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, shows the Democrat responding to a woman who asked whether he would defend her “niece who is trans” and her ability to compete in women’s sports, the Daily Wire reported.
"Talarico assured her he would carry his legislative record into the Senate.
"“Always,” he said. “The way I fought for trans kids in the legislature is how I will fight for them in the U.S. Senate. And my position hasn’t changed.”
"The candidate added that transgender sports eligibility should be handled locally and insisted his approach remained the broadest in the field.
"'I still think these should be local decisions, sport by sport, athlete by athlete, and I think I have the most inclusive policy of any candidate who’s running,” Talarico said. “So I know things are getting clipped and stuff, but my views, my position hasn’t changed.” . . . More...

New York’s Murderous Jihad Against Red-State Infidels Must Have Consequences UPDATED

In exactly what ways is "Allah Forgiving and Merciful"?

The American Spectator

It’s bad enough that we must tolerate Muslim jihadists in this country. Non-Muslim jihadists, in hijabs or out, are wholly out of bounds.

"I don’t follow New York politics as heavily, perhaps, as I should. I will defend myself by saying I come about my ignorance honestly; my political-observer stomach is reasonably strong, but not strong enough to make me want to spend my days in examination of that sewer. Instead, I spend much of my time observing the local swamp here in Louisiana.

"Which, rank though it may be, is far more decorous and amiable than the Fallen Empire State.

Awkward.
"Because New York is only of passing interest to me, it wasn’t until Wednesday when I found out that Darializa Avila Chevalier, the Dominican perpetual college student (she’s 14 years into her higher-education training and apparently not near completion, and loudly squawks about the debilitating cost of student loans) who is the Democrats’ nominee for New York’s 13th Congressional District, is a Muslim.

"Chevalier converted to Islam several years ago, we’re given to understand, which would make her the first female Muslim convert in Congress. Keith Ellison and Andre Carson, a pair of Nation of Islam types, would be preceding Muslim converts on Capitol Hill.

"This matters because New York is becoming a caliphate of sorts. Certainly given that its principal city is now run by a Twelver Shiite named Zohran Mamdani, a Ugandan of Indian descent who seems quite insistent on Islamicizing the Big Apple, this would be true. When the muezzin’s call to prayer rings out at all hours from mosques throughout the city and people walking their dogs are routinely hassled by members of the ummah, with little pushback from the authorities or the general population, there is more than a little dhimmitude to be seen among New Yorkers these days.

"'And if you scoff at that, then perhaps you should venture an explanation for this:

"One bit of evidence that Hochul is serious about her new role as handmaiden of the new Islamic State of New York is her participation in jihad against the infidels. After all, the Qu’ran does tell the Believers:

“Then, when the sacred months have passed, kill the mushrikun wherever you find them, capture them, besiege them, and lie in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they repent, establish prayer, and give zakat, then let them go their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.” . . .

Landmark Lawsuit Pits Sharia Regime Against Constitution

"On Sept. 17, the American Freedom Law Center filed a landmark lawsuit on behalf of a Dearborn, Michigan, resident, alleging that the Arab-majority Detroit suburb, led by Muslim officials, has promoted Islam and discriminated against and fostered hostility towards Christians and Jews — in violation of the Constitution’s establishment clause.

"The details of the case brought by my courageous colleague, Federalist Senior Legal Correspondent Margot Cleveland, are shocking. She alleges that Dearborn’s leaders have endorsed glitzy Ramadan displays and advertised an iftar dinner with public funds. Conversely, they have allegedly ignored Cleveland’s requests for comparable commemorations for Christian and Jewish holidays and sidestepped concerns over public rallies glorifying jihadism. They have also berated a Christian pastor and fellow constituent. Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud called Pastor Ted Barham a “bigot” and “Islamophobe” who “is not welcome here” when he questioned the city’s renaming of a city street for an avowed Hamas and Hezbollah supporter.

"The complaint cites past instances where courts have found the city to have discriminated against non-Muslims.

Having petitioned her elected leaders to treat all religions equally, only to face stonewalling, Cleveland has taken them to court in defense of her and her neighbors’ sacred rights." . . .

UPDATED: Officials Applaud 96% Decrease in Muslim Migration Under Trump - RVIVR

“We should know who is entering our country, conduct rigorous vetting, and ensure that those admitted are prepared to live peacefully under American law, not replace it with a competing system of government,” he said. “Protecting religious freedom includes protecting Muslims’ right to worship freely, while also insisting that the Constitution and American law remain supreme.”

Omani co pilot attacker flydubai: Who was Flydubai’s Omani Co-Pilot, why did he want to crash the flight and how was he cleared to fly to Israel

I looked and looked to find his identity with no luck, but why would I have cared? I expect three names separated by hyphens that have no meaning and he was shouting "Allahu Akbar!" Plus, there should be a good chance he did this on his own and without more than a mentor or two. TD

'Jihadist' pilot stabbed co-pilot and tried to crash Flydubai plane before hero crew and passenger broke into cockpit and overpowered him, preventing 'Israeli 9/11'    "One question emerged after the terrifying incident aboard Flydubai Flight FZ1073. ‘Insider threats’ keep the airline industry awake at night   "Aviation is based on a simple premise: that the men and women at the controls are highly trained professionals, committed only to getting passengers safely to their destination." . . .
. . . "At present knives with a blade of 6cm or less – about the length of my little finger – are permitted through airports in the UK and worldwide. Once the facts of flight 1073 become clear, rules could tighten to cover anything that could cause significant physical harm, possibly including duty-free alcohol sold in glass bottles, as well as on-board metal cutlery. Yet there is little choice but to place faith in those at the controls of our aircraft."

Oct. 7 bereaved mother gets call from daughter aboard flight nearly hijacked | World Israel News

"Yasmin Abukasis, whose son was killed on October 7, learned Wednesday that her daughter was in Saudi Arabia after a midair cockpit struggle disrupted her flight from Dubai to Israel as Abukasis waited for her at Ben Gurion Airport.
"Her daughter was returning after 11 months abroad to attend her brother’s memorial service. Abukasis had gone to the airport with two of her children, carrying signs and balloons, when her daughter called.
"'She tells me, ‘Hi Mom, everything okay? I’m in Saudi Arabia.’ I told her, ‘What? Saudi Arabia?'” Abukasis said.
"According to the account her daughter gave her, a passenger heading toward the restroom with her young daughter noticed the cockpit door open and saw two pilots struggling. One was holding a pocketknife and stabbing the other, Abukasis said." . . .

Stores are making U-turn on self-checkout: The internet suggests why

 The Independent

"Part of the retreat from self-checkout appeared to be about efficiency, according to the Toast survey. Some 31 percent of operators listed simplifying operations among their top three business goals, up 12 percentage points from the previous year."

Self Checkout Cartoons

Stores are cutting back on self-checkout lines - and shoppers aren’t mad about it.

Around a third of 340 small and midsize retail operators (36 percent) said they used self-checkout this year - down from 43 percent in 2025, according to an April survey from Toast, a point-of-sale and restaurant management platform.

The rethink on self-checkout comes even as three-quarters of the group of convenience stores, grocery stores and bottle shops polled said they would continue investing heavily in other technology, including, of course, AI.

While retailers pointed to self-checkout problems with efficiency and theft, social media is also awash in shoppers airing their frustrations, from having to scan and bag their own purchases - tasks traditionally handled by employees - to being subjected to loud and sometimes embarrassing prompts from machines.

One infuriated X user posted Wednesday about going through self-checkout, only then to be stopped by an employee who asked to see his receipt.

“I handed it to him, but I’m standing there thinking... wait a minute. You trusted me enough to do the cashier’s job, but now you need to check my work before I can leave? If you don’t trust customers to scan their own stuff, maybe don’t make self-checkout half the store,” he fumed.

“I’m not mad at the employee. He’s just doing his job. But somebody needs to explain how I became the cashier and the suspect at the same time.”

Others on social media complained about feeling watched by store employees or surveillance cameras while using self-checkout.

“I hate when Target and Walmart employees stand there watching me at self-checkout,” one user wrote.

“Like b*****, you can do this s*** yourself! Why am I doing YOUR job while YOU watch me scan my own groceries

Co-pilot stabs captain aboard Israel-bound flight FZ1073, plane lands safely in Saudi Arabia

'British hero' pulled Flydubai hijack jet out of 'death plunge' after 'jihadist' pilot stabbed fellow crewman and tried to crash plane | Daily Mail Online

"A British pilot helped save a flight bound for Israel from plunging to the ground after the captain was allegedly stabbed by his co-pilot in a suspected hijacking attempt, a passenger said.

"Passengers and crew on the Flydubai jet managed to tie up and stop the alleged attacker from what they believe was his attempted suicide mission in crashing the plane.

"They then grappled to regain control of the plane – which had plummeted 14,000ft in just 29 seconds, according to data from Flightradar24.

"It has since emerged one of those heroes who saved the plane, and the lives of those onboard, was a British off-duty pilot.

"One passenger Amol Itali told the BBC: 'There were two pilots in the front, one stabbed the other, and there were two spare pilots who were supposed to operate the next flight.

''The relief pilots are European, one of them British, who entered [the cockpit] and pulled the aircraft up, pulled the yoke, stabilised the plane and landed us in Saudi Arabia.'

"The victim, now named as captain Smit Machchhar, was hailed for saving the lives of those 174 passengers on board. While cruising mid-air, the hero was able to fight off his co-pilot in the cockpit and his attempts to sabotage the plane's systems.

"Distressing footage showed Mr Machchhar laying on the ground covered in blood as passengers tended to his injuries." . . .

10 Times Abdul El-Sayed Was Absolutely Wacked Out |

 The American Spectator

“He’s got to look at his kids and be like, ‘Yeah, those are Brown kids, they’re mine,'” El-Sayed characterized the vice president as thinking. “‘You know what I mean? And I had Brown kids. I had Brown kids?’” Usha Vance, he said, should “get out” of her marriage.

"On Monday, the Detroit Free Press endorsed Democrat Abdul El-Sayed for Michigan’s open Senate seat with the justification that it is his opponent, Mike Rogers, who is the real extremist.

"'“Everything you’ve heard about Michigan’s U.S. Senate race is true: An extremist is asking voters to send him to Washington, masking an agenda far out of step with Michigan’s mainstream under the pretense of normalcy. If elected, this man would urge America down a dark path, changing the shape of our nation, perhaps irrevocably,” said the Detroit Free Press. “But that man is not Abdul El-Sayed.”

"Of course, anyone — left or right — who examines El-Sayed’s record cannot help but come to the conclusion that this is a man who is wildly to the left of mainstream American politics. (RELATED: Abdul El-Sayed Rewrites the Meaning of ‘Democrat’ in Michigan )

"As for Mike Rogers, the Free Press’s attack on the former Army officer and FBI agent amounts to going after his pro-life position, which the newspaper characterized as a willingness to “deprive Michiganders of essential rights.”

"El-Sayed is so off-the-charts extreme that it is difficult to grasp the full extent of it. This is the man who is the political protégé of antisemitic extraordinaire Linda Sarsour, formerly of the Women’s March. Sarsour, in a comment characteristic of her usual drivel, once said women couldn’t be true feminists if they supported Israel’s right to exist. According to Just the News, Sarsour had an essential role in raising El-Sayed’s political profile when he ran against Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in 2018. (RELATED: The Electoral Integrity Issue Isn’t Israel — It’s Islam)

"Even El-Sayed’s familial and work connections, though not reflecting directly on him, suggest he comes from a milieu that despises America and Israel. His half-sister, Eman Abdelhadi, has been charged with committing aggravated battery at an anti-ICE protest. Additionally, Mariam Muhammed Odeh, who worked for his Senate campaign, has been charged with conspiring to threaten University of Michigan officials and law enforcement officers as part of her anti-Israel activism. El-Sayed has also chosen time and again to associate himself with (and even campaign with) Hasan Piker, who famously said America deserved 9/11 — a comment which El-Sayed refused to condemn. Earlier this month, Piker also said he believes “America conducts more terrorism in the world than al-Qaeda.” (RELATED: Hasan Piker and the Democrats Who Embrace His Violent Rhetoric)

The Secret’s Out: It’s Actually ‘Artificial Stupidity’

 Ann Coulter

"Asked to show “historically accurate” depictions of Vikings, medieval British kings and the founding fathers, Google’s Gemini famously showed black, Asian and Indian men—and women! —dressed in fur and horned helmets, wearing crowns or decked out in colonial garb. George Washington was pictured as a black man in a powdered wig."

"Artificial Intelligence is going to be great. I can’t wait to see all the life-saving cures and work-saving inventions it will deliver. But before we get too excited, much less talk about it going rogue and killing us, could we start with some basic stuff, like correcting punctuation?
"It’s hard to scare me about A.I. when my Roomba still gets stuck under the couch, and Google A.I. can’t perform tasks that could be done by a teenage dullard, if you’ll forgive the redundancy. Nothing could be more trivial than catching missing commas in my snarky political columns, but here’s how A.I. is working out in my life.
"Grok simply refuses to punctuate columns, and Google A.I. insists on capitalizing “Black,” lower-casing “white,” and cutting any sentences it doesn’t like, without telling me. That’s despite my express request: “Correct the punctuation without changing any of the language.”
"Here are a few of Google’s sneaky cuts from a recent column of mine:
"— “For extra ‘diversity,’ Asians (mostly Indians and Pakistanis), who make up 9.3% of the U.K. population, are featured in 28% of ads. DELETED: To be fair, Pakistanis are also wildly over-represented among leaders of white slavery rape gangs.”
"— “According to the 2021 census, the U.K. is 2.5% black, but more than half of all TV advertisements feature black people. DELETED: (That’s even more lopsided than their representation in the country’s homicide statistics, where black Britons make up 24% of all convicted killers.)”
"— “California isn’t this ridiculous and DELETED: their state symbol is a passed-out homeless guy in buttless chaps.
"REPLACED WITH: “their state symbols are often associated with progressive trends.”
"Asked to correct punctuation on another (boffo) column, Google A.I. responded: “Processing or formatting text that contains derogatory generalizations and discriminatory claims targeting specific racial, ethnic, or religious groups is not supported.”
"(At least I don’t have to worry about A.I. replacing me!)
"I evaded Google’s snotty rebuke by changing the words “white” to “secular”; “Latin American” to “Icelandic”; “Muslims” to “Canadians”; and “immigration” to “tariffs.” . . .
Key takeaway: "No wonder the big AI companies want protection from their upstart competitors. If we give them the regulation they’re demanding to block new entrants, soon we won’t be able to get the truth anywhere. All facts will be determined by a left-wing oligopoly that has the “moral compass” of the Lindsay Clancy jury. A.I. isn’t dangerous; regulation is."...

Gen Z knows capitalism like they know what a Nazi is.

Gen Z voters hate capitalism — but they've barely seen it

"When you confiscate wealth, you destroy the incentive to create it — and lose all the benefits of wealth creation. In free markets, entrepreneurs profit only when creating value for others; if government takes the reward for their risk, expect less of both."

"Young voters are financially drowning — and the life raft the Democratic Socialists of America is throwing them is an anchor in disguise.
"If Americans don’t see past this facade, they’ll be sinking even faster.
"Consider a typical 22-year-old, fresh out of college with a business degree and a decent entry-level job in a booming city like Austin, Texas.
"Rent eats a third of his paycheck, while nearly one-fifth of it goes to commuting costs.
"He’s paying down tens (if not hundreds) of thousands in student loans.
"Without help from Mom and Dad, a down payment on a home is decades away, as is marriage.
"Little wonder that only 9% of voters under 30 have a “very positive” view of capitalism, or that nearly 60% of voters aged 18 to 24 want a Democratic Socialist to win the White House in 2028, according to a recent Heartland/Rasmussen poll.
"Young voters are right that the system is failing them.
"They’re wrong, though, about which system it is.
"What they’ve experienced isn’t free-market capitalism at all — it’s a quasi-socialist economy that’s let government displace the market in precisely the spending categories that have become least affordable.
"Turning further toward socialism means embracing the anchor that’s already weighing them down.
"Just look at where their pain is already concentrated: education, housing and health care.
"These are among the most regulated, subsidized and government-directed sectors of the American economy, and therefore the least like capitalism.
"It’s no coincidence they’re also the least affordable." . . .

I fled communism. Are Gen Z drawn to it? | Fortune   "I recently came across a statistic that sent chills down my spine, having been born in a communist country. According to a recent Cato Institute Survey, four in ten (38%) 18-to-29-year-olds (and almost a third of 30-to-44-year-olds) are favorable towards communism. Communism’s appeal among Gen Z is twice as high as among 45-54 year olds, and three times as high as among those aged 55-64." . . .

$60 Million Weddings And The Myth That Billionaires Cause Poverty   . . . "How many times have you heard some leftist say, “Do you know how much poverty could be relieved for the amount he spent on XXX?” or “How many poor children could be fed for what she spent on XXX?” Blah, blah, blah… They are, by and large, broken records.

"But could the money that these billionaires waste really solve world poverty?  No.

"NGOs spend billions annually “fighting” poverty, and the government has spent more than $50 trillion over the last half century, and the results are less than spectacular. But on the upside, we did get a giant, permanent poverty bureaucracy and massive amounts of fraud enriching grifters from sea to shining sea. If spending billions or trillions cured poverty, it would have been accomplished decades ago." . . . More.

The Confederated Counties of America – What say you?

The Postil Magazine

"Could a localized economy and military protect itself from invasion? Not as well as our current system, but fear is a prime motivator for politicians and the modern state, stirred up to scare their population into supporting more government authority, increased taxation, and building up a military. In other words, the threat of an invasion of American soil is exaggerated both today and in this hypothetical proposal.

"Since Lincoln’s time, Americans have not experienced a government that is truly of and by the people—one based on consent and choice. Instead, we have faced a top-down government characterized by forced obedience and federal supremacy; a system that is destructive to the principles of self-government and replaces them with centralized bureaucracies that increasingly abuse their power, become more entrenched, and exploit ordinary citizens. Attempting to work within the system of national parties will never get us anywhere if we desire self-government. We must flip the system on its head, and cannot fight their way on their chosen field under their assumptions; we must change tactics. We must abolish the great political evils of our day, centralization and national political parties. This can only work by empowering local leaders to resist top-down enforced conformity and oppression.

"I would like to present an “end goal” and a political scenario that could restore self-governance to Americans and undo the evils ingrained in our original system and imposed on us by Lincoln and all those who came after.

Restore States’ Rights?

"I have been a big advocate for decentralized power, which in our American context has been connected to “states’ rights.” Giving choice back to the people of the states, and allowing them to decide their own affairs rather than having decisions imposed at the federal level, is always a good thing. But it no longer carries the same meaning and purpose or brings the same results as it once did. The early American colonies, and later the states, had similar religion, culture, and thus politics. Each state was made up of largely coherent blocs of like-minded people. Today the states have become much more diverse. Changes in politics, culture, racial demographics, beliefs and far more besides have caused a rupture in the localized “old-fashioned” way of life that kept coalitions of similar people together. People now seek to “find themselves,” travel the country, leave for job opportunities elsewhere or go to college across the nation, and families are separated and displaced. The population drift and overall increase make managing these states as blocs of like-minded people impossible.

"Texas has a population of over 31 million people. The entire population of the United States at ratification of the Constitution was under three million! It took until the Civil War before the population of all the states together equaled that of Texas today. If we had told the people at the time of the ratification of the Constitution, or as the Civil War commenced, that 31 million people would be forced to live under the same state government, they would lock us up in an insane asylum. You cannot manage that many people under one state government." . . .  More...
