RIP Dick Winters

Moonbattery  "Major Dick Winters, the WWII hero who inspired the TV series Band of Brothers, died Saturday of Parkinson disease complications at age 92."
On D-Day, June 6, 1944, Winters commanded a group of troops who parachuted behind enemy lines onto Utah Beach, where thousands of Allied troops landed for the invasion of Normandy.
Winter[s] and his Easy Company went on to fight in the Battle of the Bulge, the last-ditch Nazi offensive in western France. He also took part in the liberation of the Dachau death camp and numerous other battles.
Winters earned the Distinguished Service Cross for his heroics. Some feel he deserves the Congressional Medal of Honor. He certainly deserves to be remembered.
"Thank you Major Winters for your contribution in the never-ending battle to defend liberty from its enemies."
Van Helsing, blogging at Moonbattery.

Dick Winters, 'Band Of Brothers' Inspiration, Dies "Winters wasn't sure he would live through the war. He told writer Stephen Ambrose that he knelt down and prayed after D-Day. That comment inspired a scene in Band of Brothers.
"Portraying Winters, actor Damian Lewis says, "If somehow I manage to get home again, I promised God and myself that I would find a quiet piece of land someplace and spend the rest of my life in peace."
"Winters found that quiet piece of land. He bought a farm outside Hershey, Pa., where he spent the rest of his life."

Westboro Baptist Church to Picket Funeral of 9-Year-Old Tucson Shooting Victim

Hot Air "Westboro’s founder, Fred Phelps has run in several Kansas Democratic Party primaries, but has never won. In his most successful bid, as a candidate for the U.S. Senate in 1992, he received 31 percent of the vote.
"Phelps was an enormous supporter of Al Gore 1988 Democratic Party primary election and in 2003 wrote a letter to Saddam Hussein, praising his regime for being

the only Muslim state that allows the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to be freely and openly preached on the streets.

Hillary Hauls Out Old 'Extremist' Rap

Investor's Business Daily  "...If there's one thing more detestable than using a crime to make political hay, it's using the crime to make the hay abroad. Hillary Clinton hit that new low in comments on the Giffords attack."
....
"The statement stands out as wrong in two ways. One is the suggestion that there's no real difference between a lone wacko who shoots a congresswoman and others in Tucson, and the global scourge of Islamic terrorism. The other is the undertone of the word "extremist," a pejorative the Clinton administration used to discredit political opponents in the 1990s. For a secretary of state to deliver such a message abroad ill serves the interests of America."

The New Sophists

Victor Davis Hanson  "There are plenty of prizes, honors and degrees among our policy setters and experts, but very little experience in running a business in Oklahoma, raising a large family in Kansas, or working on an assembly line in Michigan, a military base in Texas, a boat in Alaska or a ranch in Idaho.
"In classical sophistic fashion, rhetoric is never far from personal profit. Multimillionaire Al Gore convinced the governments of the Western world that they were facing a global-warming Armageddon, then hired out his services to address the hysteria that he helped create."

Left-wing violence and it's defenders

Colin Ferguson Trial: 1995    A caller to Rush Limbaugh recalled the motives of mass murderer Colin Ferguson:
"When Ferguson was arrested, police found notes in his pockets expressing his hatred of Caucasians, Asians, and "Uncle Tom Negroes." Kunstler and Kuby held that Ferguson's behavior could be tied to a study entitled Black Rage. In this 1968 study, psychologists Price Cobbs and William Grier observed that in order to function in society, African Americans suppress feelings of intense anger over racism. Kunstler and Kuby would try to expand this thesis into a "black rage" defense, arguing that continual racist mistreatment was the catalyst that caused Ferguson's delusions and paranoia to explode into violence.
Critics accused the attorneys of manipulating the sensitive state of race relations in New York in order to excuse the acts of a cold blooded killer. Kunstler and Kuby vowed to press ahead with the "black rage" defense. Their strategy, however, accepted that Ferguson was the killer and that he was mentally unsound. Ferguson rejected both assumptions."

Ron Kuby
Ron Kuby joined forces with his idol 13 years ago. With Kunstler's death, he's trying to keep legacy alive--and a practice solvent."Kuby shrugged and worked on. He was in Minneapolis to help Qubilah Shabazz, Malcolm X's daughter, beat her murder-for-hire case. He's represented the Arab defendants in the World Trade Center bombing."
Refer to "useful idiots" here.
If you commit mass murder on innocent American citizens and you hate this country, you may want to hire this man to defend you.

Obama’s Anti-Drilling Agenda

Heritage  "President Obama’s oil spill commission will release its long-awaited final report this morning, recommending new government regulations and limits on drilling. These conclusions could shape the future of the oil industry — and impact our nation’s energy policy for years to come."

Official: DHS has not determined any possible ties between Arizona shooter and right wing group

Washington Post  "...the Web has been alive with speculation that the Arizona shooter has some sort of ties to a right-wing group called American Renaissance. The primary source for this claim is a Fox News report from yesterday saying that law enforcement had made this determination based on information provided by the Department of Homeland Security.
"But a DHS official tells me that the department has not established any such possibility, undercutting what appears to be the primary basis for this claim."
