Veteran photographer Don McCullin who has covered wars across the globe for 50 years handpicks six images taken by soldiers that capture the true horror of the First World War

 Daily Mail Online

Don McCullin

"For nearly 50 years, photojournalist Don McCullin covered wars across the world, from Biafra to Vietnam to the Troubles in Northern Ireland.

"He is known for his hard-hitting, uncompromising coverage, exposing the horror of soldiers fighting to the death and the tragedy of innocents caught in the crossfire.

"These six pictures have been hand-picked by the veteran reporter to reveal the desperate reality of life on the Western Front for British soldiers during the First World War.

"Mr McCullin said: 'The pictures I have chosen here are mostly taken by the officer class; you don't see many sergeants' names. The authorities wanted people they could trust.

" 'For the same reason newspaper blokes weren't allowed anywhere near the front; the Army kept it within the Army so they could control what came out.

" 'Today they keep control by embedding people. They don't like free agents; they worry that the price of sacrifice will be unacceptable for the people back home.' . . .

Below: A daylight raiding party of 9th Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) waits for the signal to go over the top near Arras, March 27, 1917: 'You can sense the tension in the face looking back and feel it in the body language of the others as they prepare to go over the top,' says Mr McCullin. 'It's an extraordinary photograph, a very close shot'

President Trump Suggests Moving ‘Palestinians’ Back Where They Came From

 Daniel Greenfield

"President Trump has good instincts. Unfortunately, he keeps being surrounded by bad advisers who try to get him to embrace the same old failed policies of past administrations. And it’s happening all over again." . . .

"The ‘Palestinians’ were a made-up people invented by Soviet propagandists during the Cold War. In reality, they’re Arab Muslim settlers, many of whom moved to Israel not that long ago. For example, the al-Husayni clan, who gave us Hitler’s Mufti and much of the ‘Palestinian’ Jihadist elite, moved to Israel in the 18th century. Yasser Arafat, the godfather of ‘Palestinianism’, came out of Egypt.

"A Hamas leader even admitted that they’re mostly Egyptians". . .

. . ."Why not have them move back to Egypt?

Questioned about his earlier Saturday call with Jordan’s Abdullah II, Trump said he had asked the king to take additional Palestinians into his country.

“I said to him that I’d love you to take on more, because I’m looking at the whole Gaza Strip right now and it’s a mess, it’s a real mess,” he told reporters aboard Air Force One.

Trump said he would like both Jordan and Egypt to house people and that he would speak to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi about the matter on Sunday.

You who chanted "Free, free Palestine" should love this plan since it would free them from that sewer.

‘Completely disgraceful’: Douglas Murray rips into ‘political hack’ bishop

 Murray on "the "Balmy Bishop"

"Author Douglas Murray has slammed Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde as a “third-rate political hack”.
"Donald Trump has demanded a public apology from a church and a bishop who face-to-face called on the US President to "show mercy" to LGBTQ children and immigrants.
"“I thought it was completely disgraceful and a great example of where the episcopalian church has gone in recent years,” Mr Murray told Sky News host Danica De Giorgio.
“It is a demonstration of the church’s failing that they would have just this third-rate political hack when they could have had somebody who was talking about God and representing God on earth.”

Enough With the Nazi Canard

"Democrats’ favorite dance moves are name-calling and demonizing their political opponents. Politics should entail a debate of ideas, aiming to convince a majority of voters that one set of policies is better than one’s opponents." BCJ

Brian C. Joondeph   . . ."The current administration is inclusive, with several high-level gay appointments or nominations, including the Treasury Secretary.

"Democrats are devoid of substantive ideas. Instead, they call their political opponents names – Hitler, Nazi, fascist, hater, homophobe, racist, sexist, and so on. Why debate ideas and policies when you can shut down discussion by calling your opponent a Nazi, one of the most deplorable insults possible?

"That’s the Democrats’ go-to dance move at the political sock hop. No rock around the clock, hustle, or the macarena. Instead, it’s simply “You’re a Nazi!”

"Democrats’ primary campaign strategy in 2024 was calling candidate Donald Trump either Hitler, a Nazi, or both. It worked out so well for them and their candidates that they are now the House and Senate minority party, and their candidate of joy was a mere spectator at the January 20 inauguration.

"No sooner did Trump take his hand off the Bible (or was his hand not on the Bible – another rabbit hole) than Trump’s sidekick and consigliere, Elon Musk, became the new Republican Nazi."

This whole thing screams for parody. Here it is from the Babylon Bee:  12 Horrifying Nazi Symbols From Trump's Inauguration    Look no further than number one:

1. Trump literally did a Nazi salute while he was being sworn in: How was this even allowed?

Bill Gates is a Nazi! We never knew!

Obama Fired Inspector General in 2009 Who Was Investigating His Friend Without Congressional Approval — Media Said Nothing!

Jim Hoft

"President Barack Obama says he has lost confidence in the inspector general who investigates AmeriCorps and other national service programs and has told Congress he is removing him from the position."

"Here’s the latest blow to the lawless Democrat-Socialist party and their tired media machine.
"President Trump fired 17 controversial Inspectors General in a Friday night purge to punctuate the end of his first week in office.
"Real Clear Politics reporter Susan Crabtree explained that many of these IGs, who are in a position to identify and clean up waste and abuse, have long histories of whitewashing reports and playing politics.
"Trump did keep current Department of Homeland Security Inspector General Joseph V. Cuffari Jr., who is conducting multiple investigations into the Secret Service failures that led to two assassination attempts on President Trump’s life." . . .
. . . "However, there appears to be a precedent for firing Inspector Generals, and it goes back to Barack Obama.
"Barack Obama fired an Inspector General without any pushback from the legacy media.
"In 2009, Barack Obama fired Inspector General Gerald Walpin after the IG identified millions of dollars in AmeriCorps funds that were wasted or misspent.
"The man in charge of AmeriCorps was a top Obama supporter and friend, Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson.
"Mayor Kevin Johnson, an Obama supporter, used AmeriCorps grants to pay volunteers to engage in school board political activities, run personal errands for Johnson, and even wash his car." . . .

BIDEN'S PARTING FAMILY PARDONS SEND A 'TERRIBLE MESSAGE,' EX-OBAMA SPOX SAYS

REP. JAMES COMER: Biden family pardons a confession to selling out America   "Before he left office, President Joe Biden followed his unprecedented pardon of his son, Hunter Biden, by issuing additional preemptive pardons to family members, dating back to his time as vice president. I believe these preemptive pardons serve as a confession that the Biden family sold out the American people to enrich themselves. In fact, Biden’s own Justice Department has argued that accepting a pardon implies an admission of guilt.

"When the House Oversight Committee began our investigation of Biden and his family’s alleged influence-peddling schemes, the narrative pushed by the legacy media was that the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop were disinformation. Biden claimed that his family’s business dealings were "ethical." But our investigation blew through these lies and more as we followed the money trail and conducted a forensic accounting of the Biden family "business."

"During our investigation, the House Oversight Committee reviewed hundreds of pages of documents at the U.S. Department of the Treasury generated by the Bidens’ and their associates’ high-dollar transactions. These documents are filed by experts at banks when there is evidence of potential money laundering or other criminal activity. Additionally, we obtained the bank records for Hunter Biden, James Biden, their shell companies, and business associates." . . .

Question: Why do people blame Hamas instead of trying to understand how Gaza people suffered under Israel occupation over the last few decades?

Douglas speaks of how Hamas killed Jews "with Glee".

Answer:  "Manhattan is 60km-sq with 1.6 million people. Gaza is 250sq-km with 2 million people. The Hudson river is polluted. The Mediterranean is clean. NY is cold. Gaza is warm and sunny. Manhattan is occupied by the United States. There are police, Riker's Island Prison, FBI, CIA, DHS, and more. Most Manhattanites don't own a car, they walk, or take taxis and subways. It’s just too expensive to own a car, and there’s no place to park. Manhattan is expensive. If you don't have a job, and are not wealthy, you can't stay. You are oppressed. Bye bye. No one cries for you. Gaza has not been occupied since 2005, when PM Ariel Sharon forcibly pulled the settlers out. They left behind homes, greenhouses, farms, all of which were wealth producing. Hamas did not sell the valuable resources, or even give them away. Hamas destroyed everything. Why do people blame Hamas instead of trying to understand them? 20% of Israel's population are Arab. There is no oppression. They vote, attend school, get free medical care, just like every Israeli. They may travel without restriction, just like every Israeli. These are the ONLY Arabs in the Arab world living in a liberal democracy. And Israel doesn't fear them. They don't attack Israel. Many, especially the Christian Arabs and the Druze, LOVE being Israeli. But many Muslims love being Israeli too, especially the wealthy ones. Right now Israeli Druze cousins who live on the Golan in Syria are begging Israel to annex them. Many Gazans used to come into Israel (Israel is a very small place) everyday to work. That’s over. There are no jobs in Gaza. Why not try to understand them? They destroyed their economy, and all Israeli goodwill with murder, slaughter, terror, mutilation, rape and worse. They took 200 hostages. Most are dead now. Then they blame their victims, and demand money from the world. Try to understand them. They say, in Arabic of course, that all they want out of life is to kill Jews. And they mean it. Try to understand them. But keep them away from me."

"Gaza has not been under occupation since Israel left in 2005.

"During that time, the good people of Gaza has committed 20,000 war crimes by launching rockets at Israeli population centers. It also committed genocide on October 7, 2023 followed by the taking of hundreds of hostages, which is a war crime.

"The strategy for Hamas is to embed themselves among the civilians resulting in a large number of civilian casualties in legal attacks on military targets. This is a plan for genocide on the Gazan civilians. They deny the civilians to seek protection in the tunnels they dug under Gaza which is violating their obligation to protect the civilians. They steal much of the aid which is a war crime. The aid orgabisations downplay this which must be considered abandoning their neutrality. They support Hamas terrorism. Hamas sell what they cannot use to merchants which sell it to the civilians. They fight dressed in civilian clothes which is a war crime. Gazan civilians participate in the war, some already during the October 7 genocide, some by keeping hostages. Their casualty statistics are flawed with “women” named Mohammed, claims that all casualties are civilians, claims that people dying from natural causes or executed/killed by Hamas are killed by Israel.

"They are simply despicable."

What is a TV show that ruined the lives of many people in general?

Quora.com    "The Rachel Maddow Show.

"Often touted as an entertaining liberal television host, most recognized for her boyish qualities and ability to very pompously make absurd statements; this show is responsible for stoking fires in relationships and many people losing their jobs.

"As PolitiFact shows, All statements involving Rachel Maddow, many of the controversial points that she makes are false or borderline truthful.

"To quote from Wikipedia:

Dumps on Elon Musk's:"salute"
Newsweek profile said, "At her best, Maddow debates ideological opponents with civility and persistence ... but for all her eloquence, she can get so wound up ripping Republicans that she sounds like another smug cable partisan." The Baltimore Sun critic David Zurawik accused Maddow of acting like "a lockstep party member". . .

"The issue isn’t with dissonance or a differing of opinion, which her show clearly provides. It’s the manner in how that point of view is delivered. The [lack of] public discourse, candor, humility, civility, and the like; accumulate to create a new tone in the public consci, which is rattled by oppositional thoughts or opinions, exploits hypersensitivity, and is brittlely fragile.

"As a result, this mentality has led to investigations and assertions based on emotional beliefs and not credible facts, which has damaged the fabric of our society. It has been detrimental and ruined peoples lives, many of whom don’t even realize it; because social justice warriors don’t realize how absurd they are until they come off their high later in life.

"The Rachel Maddow show, though, isn’t singlehandedly responsible. The whole conglomerate of the news media and press, coupled with Hollywood; have led to an almost visible rift in social interaction. Many of MSNBC’s lineups combined with talk show hosts like Bill Maher, and skit-comedy like SNL all play into the same kind of “we’re right because we think we are”, self-assured, false-confidence.

"As Martin Luther King, Jr once said:

Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.

"In the case of the Leftist media of late, there has been sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity; which has led to ideas of Socialism, open borders, and other propaganda (anti-Columbus Day campaigns and tearing down church crosses). People are well-intentioned and sincere in their beliefs, but believe something that is fundamentally ignorant or stupid.

"So I agree with the other answers regarding televangelism, but the impact of these Leftist causes (like giving up Natural Gas) is impacting far more than the sheep that buy into ignorant ideas. It’s affecting the intelligent folks that hold still in their silence."

How to invalidate the Presidential Medal of Freedom in one fell swoop

Patricia McCarthy

"Instead, pathological liars like Adam Schiff got their way until the truth was finally revealed.  There was never any there there.  And now he is a senator!  He has no business being anywhere near Congress. “A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious.  But it cannot survive treason from within,"

"The Biden administration, whoever is running it, is illegitimate.

"The 2020 election was stolen, rigged to defeat Trump by any means necessary. Many means were employed, all illegal, all unconstitutional.

"The truth is coming out, bit by bit.

"We should know by now that the left could not care less about the Constitution; they hate the limits it imposes on government, so they ignore the Bill of Rights and most of the Articles.  These past post-Constitutional four years have been a disaster by any measure, from the open border to the third world and China to the imposition of woke on our military.

"But beyond Biden’s hostility to all things American is his administration’s gross immaturity. It is intent upon poking Trump and his supporters in the eye on their way out.

"They are like spoiled little playground bullies.  Their actions since the election have been not only childish but treasonous.  They would rather destroy the country than make the transition to the Trump presidency smooth and trouble-free.

"This bunch is far worse than the Clintonites who stole the letter 'w' from all the computers in the White House as they left.

"This bunch is preternaturally vindictive and evil.  Everything they’ve done over the past four years, especially since Trump’s victory, has been destructive.  More destructive than any other president in American history.  And it’s all been done on purpose.

"The final indignity the Biden regime has inflicted on the American people is to present Hillary Clinton and George Soros the Presidential Medal of Freedom. " . . .

California Incinerated Its Insurance Market

The American Spectator  .

. ."And [Ricardo] Lara couldn’t help himself from falling back on his progressive instincts, as he issued an edict forbidding insurers from cancelling or not renewing policies in the Los Angeles-area neighborhoods most affected by the fires. Forcing companies to provide such coverage will only cause them to cut back elsewhere — and high-tail it out of state as soon as the moratorium is lifted.

"The American Spectator might not be at the top of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s reading list, but had it been, he would have known that California’s teetering insurance system was just one particularly bad wildfire away from disaster. Sure, he knew that insurers were fleeing the state in the face of its absurd price-control system that doesn’t allow them to price policies to reflect their actual risk, but that knowledge didn’t spur him to make the matter a priority.

"In September 2023, I wrote the following on these pages after lawmakers decided to punt on insurance reform rather than take on their anti-corporate allies:

Newsom said the legislative deal “unfortunately fell through and, I say unfortunately, because time is of the essence.” Yet timing wasn’t essential enough for the Legislature, which does have the knack for punting on the state’s truly pressing problems (homelessness, pension debt, failing public schools, etc.) It’s unclear what Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara, who has been chastened for his inaction by some media sources, plans to do about a crisis that he continues to blame on climate change, inflation and everything other than the state’s price controls and inefficient rate-approval system.

"Well, over a year later, Lara finally implemented some reasonable reforms that allow insurers to use forward-looking catastrophe models in determining rates rather than relying primarily on past claims. That should have been a no-brainer many years ago for our climate-change-obsessed policymakers. If the future climate is warming, then insurance companies ought to be able to include such warming — and its fire-related risks because of dryness and drought — in their rate making." . . .

Woman Who Accused Pete Hegseth of Domestic Abuse Makes Eyebrow-Raising Claim She Was 'Promised' Something

RedState

With the confirmation vote in the books, Danielle Hegseth has responded, and while parts of her statement are not surprising, something very interesting is buried in it.

"Pete Hegseth was confirmed as Donald Trump's Secretary of Defense on Friday evening, ending one of the more contentious confirmation processes the newly reelected president will face. Because Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), and Susan Collins (R-ME) voted no on Hegseth, Vice President JD Vance was forced to go to the Capitol and break the tie.

"Days before the vote, Danielle Hegseth, who is the ex-wife of Pete Hegseth's brother, came forward to accuse the new head of the Pentagon of domestic abuse. In an affidavit, she claimed Samantha Hegseth "feared for her life," and once had to hide in a closet to escape Pete Hegseth's wrath. The problem? Samantha Hegseth, who was the person supposedly abused, categorically denied the allegations and threatened to get her lawyer involved." . . .

. . ."In the case of Pete Hegseth, not only was there no actual evidence provided by Danielle Hegseth, but the person who was allegedly abused said it never happened. At that point, nothing in that affidavit was relevant. You can't have nominees losing their confirmations based on third-party claims that aren't even supported by the alleged victim. Whether that means some people who once did bad things make it through or not is irrelevant. You simply can't have a functioning government if the mere existence of an allegation, especially one thoroughly denied by the most relevant party, is allowed to dictate the process.

With that said, this was the most illuminating part of her statement:

"A week ago, I was promised that my statement, on the record, would corroborate the other accusations and make a difference in key votes. But in the end, it did not."

"Hang on a second. Who "promised" this woman that her statement would "corroborate the other accusations and make a difference in key votes"? " . . .

Trump Gloriously Lays Waste to L.A. Politicians Standing in the Way of Rebuilding

 Victoria Taft

"It's hard to pick out the most impactful part of President Donald and First Lady Melania Trump's visit to see the devastation from the L.A. fires. Is it where he agreed with me about needing a special master to oversee the incoming billions of relief funds? It's hard to top that, but calling out Mayor Karen Bass in real time and letting her know he wasn't falling for the okie doke she was trying to pass off was a high point. Or when he told her he'd cleared all government permits for rebuilding and got the water flowing to fill her fire hydrants and asked her what she had done with her emergency powers lately. What about the Democrat congressman telling Trump what a great job FEMA was doing? Or about Russia, Russia, Russia liar Congressman Ted Lieu sitting mute?

"Whatever your choice, Trump conducted a clinic on how a president is supposed to respond to a disaster, and he did it with command and humility. Oh, yes, he did." . . .

Newsom Plans to Greet Trump at Airport Uninvited Before Wildfire Assessment

"In the early hours of his second term, Trump ordered federal officials to draft plans to divert more water to the Central Valley and Southern California cities. Days later, he threatened to withhold federal disaster aid unless the state revised its approach to water usage."

Sounds like one less Newsom voter
