If I go up to the cops and tell them I murdered someone and then sign a statement to that effect, they are going to detain me until they figure out what's going on. That's what happened here, and it is not the fault of ICE or CBP that they were lied to. 

"On Friday, the story of an American citizen being held by immigration officials for ten days burst into the political sphere. It was the perfect storm for the press, who were salivating over the opportunity to turn one of the Trump administration's best polling issues into a liability. 

"As the original reporting went, Jose Hermosillo was wrongfully arrested in Albuquerque, NM, and held for over a week despite telling ICE officials that he was an American. It wasn't until his family showed up with a birth certificate and a Social Security card that he was released. 

"On its face, this seemed like a pretty big flub by federal officials. After all, no one should want a government that can mistakenly arrest you and hold you for ten days without any evidence that you're an illegal alien. There's just one problem, though. Hermosillo not only told immigration officials he crossed the border illegally, but he also signed a statement swearing that as well. 

"That sound you hear is the sound of a thousand narratives burning to the ground. 

"This is why it's always smart to wait for more details before jumping on a story that sounds too good to be true, politically speaking. Democrats and those generally skeptical of Trump's increased immigration enforcement thought they had the holy grail here. Finally, ICE had rashly and unconstitutionally scooped up a U.S. citizen and violated their rights for over a week. It was the talking point they wanted. 

"Except it turns out that Hermosillo not only told immigration authorities he wasn't an American citizen, but he even concocted an entire story about crossing the border illegally to find work in the United States. Why did he do that? I have no idea. Maybe he's got mental issues. Maybe he was doing something he wasn't supposed to be doing and thought posing as an illegal immigrant was the better option." . . . 

The Press Is Back In Full Frenzy Mode, But This Time Nobody Is Listening

Endlessly predict doom and gloom. Play up astroturf protests. And studiously ignore whatever successes Trump does achieve. When context is needed, it’s ignored.

"This makes it all but impossible for the average American to know what they can trust, or when there actually is something to be concerned about. When everything is a crisis, nothing is.

"When rogue federal judges started routinely issuing universal injunctions against Trump executive orders, a practice that is legally suspect and was extremely rare until Trump showed up, the story wasn’t how these judges wildly overstepped their bounds, it’s that Trump was creating a “constitutional crisis.”

Joe Biden Trying to Charge $300K for Speeches, Having Trouble Finding Customers

Joe Biden is trying to follow in the footsteps of Bill and Hillary Clinton, charging massive fees to give speeches. Now that the influence peddling is gone, he has to make up the loss in income, somehow.

The problem old Joe is running into, is that there’s just not a huge market for barely coherent speeches that drift from creepy whispering to suddenly yelling angrily at the audience.

Fake Virtue Lowers the Value of Citizenship   . . ."The usual suspects in the political realm are posing as champions of democracy. Senators fly off to El Salvador, hoping to make grand gestures of righteous advocacy for the case of a Salvadoran citizen here illegally. The Salvadoran has had his several days in court, was found by the judge to be an MS-13 gang member — and this finding was upheld on appeal —  and was ordered removed from the country. Moreover, his girlfriend had twice lodged complaints to Maryland courts that he physically assaulted her. But the Senators are appealing beyond the law, claiming somehow that not to do so would destroy the Constitution, and that deporting this man meant American citizens had to fear being jailed on the President’s whim.

"Clearly, the Senators believe that their audience don’t have the logical powers of even a third grader. They are making a grand theatrical gesture of virtue — that should be enough to override every rational consideration and have everyone in awe of them.

Across cultures throughout human history, people have sought to flee oppression and escape persecution. A recurring theme in Western literature and in modern classics such as Superman and Disney originals, which revolve around the struggle between good and evil, is the need and critical role for a rescuer or savior.

Easter is the celebration of the finished work of the messiah Jesus Christ, the ultimate rescuer and savior for mankind, who sacrificed his life to provide forgiveness of sin -- enabling all who believe in Christ to have a direct relationship with God.

That no other religion makes the claim that it was founded by a messiah makes Jesus the most revolutionary figure of human history.      

Still, some assume Christianity is like other religions that require followers to perform certain works and rituals acceptable to God. Not so with Jesus, for he implores us in Matthew 11:30 that, “My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.” When a learned Jewish Pharisee, whose life required living up to stressful “dos and don’ts” of the Mosaic law, asked Jesus which was the greatest commandment in the law, Jesus answered simply that if we love God and love our neighbor as ourselves, we will have fulfilled all the laws.

Christ is absolutely unique in other ways. First, he is the only person in history who was pre-announced starting a thousand years before he was born, with eighteen different prophets between the tenth and the fourth centuries B.C. predicting his coming birth, life, and death. Hundreds of years later, the details of Christ’s coming birth, life, betrayal, and manner of death validated those prophecies in surprisingly accurate and minute detail. One thousand years B.C., David prophetically wrote about the crucifixion of Christ, at a time when crucifixion was unknown as a means of execution.

The death of other religious leaders -- such as Abraham, Moses, Buddha, Mohammad, or Confucius -- brought anticlimactic endings to their lives and work. But Christ came into the world as God’s son to die and pay the price for man’s iniquity." . . .  More
