The White House East Wing Renovations: Exorcizing the Daemons of Modernism

 The American Spectator

"There is something genuinely daemonic about, to take one prominent example, the brutalist monstrosity that is the Barack Obama Presidential Center…"

. . . Once again am I reminded of the Mitchell & Webb “Are We the Baddies?” sketch, in which two beleaguered Nazi soldiers ponder whether they might in fact be the villains of the ongoing conflict. “Have you noticed that our caps actually have little pictures of skulls on them? … Their [the Allies] symbols are all quite nice! Stars, stripes, lions, sickles… You gotta say, it’s better than a skull. I mean, I really can’t think of anything worse, as a symbol, than a skull!” One can imagine a modernist or post-modernist architect contemplating why it is that their traditionalist counterparts have the Classical orders, or Gothic rib vaults, or the sustainable, natural, recyclable building materials of vernacular architectural styles, while they have hideous failures and blunders like the Obamalisk, the Buffalo City Court Building, Boston City Hall, Pruitt-Igoe, and Grenfell Tower, among so many others.
"That modernist architects never actually experience this moment of self-awareness would indicate that modernism, like other symptoms of leftism generally, may indeed be a biological phenomenon, the result of a smaller-than-normal or underdeveloped amygdala, and the attendant inability to experience a healthy disgust response. How else can we explain the decision on the part of the Obama Foundation, in conjunction with its hired architectural firm, to commission the Obamalisk on purpose? This is not a science fiction film, or a J.G. Ballard novel, but here we are, in real life, with the skyline of a great American city defaced by yet another brutalist monstrosity when we all know better by now, or should.
"Hence, my lack of concern over the renovation of the East Wing of the White House, and the drummed-up controversy it has engendered in the “popular” press. James C. McCrery II, the architect in charge of the upgrades, has a fine track record of designing traditionalist buildings that can be constructed on time, on budget, and to the satisfaction of his patrons. McRery has, during his career, done something vanishingly few fashionably modernist architects have ever accomplished in their lives, namely to design buildings of genuine aesthetic appeal, which people might actually want to look at or be in. These include the Renaissance Revival Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Knoxville, Tennessee, tastefully clad in Indiana limestone and Roman-style bricks sourced from Ohio; the Renaissance-inspired St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Aiken, South Carolina, which won a John Russell Pope Award for its marvelous design (the pediment mosaic is a particular inspired touch); and the Gothic monastery currently being erected for the Carmelites of Wyoming near Meeteetse, with its limestone facades, delicate tracery, and soaring spires made possible (and affordable) by the use of innovative CNC fabrication on the part of the monks themselves." . . .More...

Almost half of Israelis won’t go to New York City with Mamdani as mayor

The Jewish Voice

It can - and is going to - happen here: Turkey Issues Arrest Warrants for Netanyahu and Senior Israeli Officials

"New polling suggests the election of Zohran Mamdani as mayor will cause nearly half of Israelis to avoid New York City.
"In a nationwide survey conducted Nov. 6, 46% of respondents said they would avoid visiting New York in light of the mayoral election results; 34% said they would travel as usual, and 20% were undecided. The poll sampled 501 adults and carries a ±4.4% margin of error.
"Asked about Mamdani himself, 83% of Israelis surveyed said they view him as antisemitic, while 8% disagreed and 9% were unsure. New York—home to the largest Jewish community outside Israel—has long been a favored destination for Israeli tourists, which makes the potential shift in travel habits notable.
"Mamdani, a 34-year-old democratic socialist, won Wednesday’s contest after rivals Andrew M. Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa conceded.
"In his victory remarks, he pledged to confront antisemitism and presented an inclusive message to Muslim residents, saying City Hall under his leadership would stand with Jewish New Yorkers and affirm a sense of belonging for more than a million Muslims in the city.
"Party movement linked to Mamdani and AOC rejects Gaza deal, endorses ‘Palestinian resistance’
"However, Jewish critics of Mamdani see his remarks as an attempt to smooth over his image after refusing to condemn the slogan “globalize the intifada,” embracing BDS policy and threatening to have Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrested if he travels to New York.
"The poll’s timing—immediately after the vote—captures initial reactions rather than long-term behavior. Still, the results highlight a divide between Israeli public sentiment and parts of the American Jewish electorate, a split that has surfaced repeatedly in recent years over Israel-related politics in major U.S. cities.
"Mamdani is due to take office on Jan. 1 for a four-year term." . . .

"In this episode of The Spectator P.M. Podcast, hosts Ellie Gardey Holmes and Lyrah Margo discuss the poll results and why young women tend to vote liberal. They also discuss feminism within the conservative movement in light of the recent controversy over Nick Fuentes, who has been vocal about his disdain for women. (RELATED: What Nick Fuentes Gets Wrong About Women) "

Mamdani’s All-Female Fantasy
. . . "If Mamdani truly believes that the best person for every job just happens to be a woman, then fine. But if his all-female team was assembled to prove a point rather than solve a problem, then New York is in for a rude awakening. Symbolism makes for stirring headlines, but it rarely fills potholes or fixes budgets. It’s easy to pick a team that looks virtuous; it’s harder to build one that actually works."

What comes to my mind are the young female voices cheering every liberal oration made by any Democrat politician, no matter how Newsomish or Swalwellish. The Tunnel Dweller

Freed Israeli hostage reveals unthinkable horror during captivity: ‘Something even the Nazis didn’t do’

Things you will never see covered on MSNBC. TD

NY Post

"He was so severely beaten by his captors that he begged them to let him starve to death, according to the Times of Israel."

Greta Thunberg and her leftist friends would refuse to read this

"A traumatized Israeli hostage held captive for more than two years in Gaza revealed that he was sexually assaulted and tortured so sadistically by Jew-hating terrorists that he begged them to let him starve to death.

"Rom Braslavski was kidnapped on Oct. 7, 2023, by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, a Hamas ally, and subsequently stripped naked, starved and sexually abused until he was finally released earlier this year, he revealed in a chilling interview with Israeli media.

“I came back from a meeting with the devil,” Braslavski told Israel’s Channel 13. " . . .

. . . “It was sexual violence, and its main purpose was to humiliate me,” he said. “The goal was to crush my dignity. And that’s exactly what he did.”

"He said the abuse was frequent — and worse than Nazi torture." . . .

“[They said], ‘Listen, if you convert to Islam, I’ll bring you plenty of food, you’ll live with us,’” —  to which he replied, “I was born a Jew, I’ll die a Jew.”

"But when he refused to convert, the torture got worse, he said.": . .. MORE

Freed hostage says captors joyfully tortured, whipped him repeatedly during captivity

Freed Israeli Hostages: What They Endured in Captivity and How They Survived | AJC   . . . "Freed hostage Amit Soussana credited Liri Albag with saving her life in captivity, revealing in an interview that Albag convinced their Hamas captors she was not an IDF officer. Soussana recounted how she was bound, beaten, and threatened at gunpoint by a guard who told her, “You have 40 minutes to tell us the truth, or else I kill you.” Albag intervened, persuading the captors that Soussana was not a soldier. “I told her when she came back: ‘I don’t know if they would have killed me or not; as far as I’m concerned, you saved my life,’” Soussana said.

"In December 2024, Hamas released a propaganda video featuring Liri. Her family said at the time that the video “has torn our heart to pieces. This is not the daughter and sister we know. She is not well - her severe psychological distress is evident.”

"Her mother, Shira Albag, observed, "She's not the same girl—she's very frightened, her eyes are hollow." She added, "My Liri has always been self-confident, fearless, strong—I saw that she was extremely pale, that she has lost a ton of weight… I saw the black under her eyes, I saw that she hadn’t seen daylight in a long time." . .

100-Year-Old Veteran on Live TV: We Fought WW2 for Nothing, Britain Less Free Than in 1945

BREITBART NEWS

Professor David Betz was among those responding to the turn of events, calling Penstone’s remarks “heartbreaking” and the response from the television hosts “patronising” and “simply infuriating”.

Alec joined the Royal Navy after he promised his father, he would not serve in the trenches because of the horrors he witnessed in World War one.  Below: the very definition of "Arctic".

'A centenarian Royal Navy veteran took full advantage of an appearance on live television to express his sorrow at the state of modern Britain, saying he and his comrades fought for freedom that has been frittered away, eliciting what critics called a “patronising” response by show hosts.

"Royal Navy and Arctic Convoy veteran Alec Penstone told Britain’s ITV breakfast show “the sacrifice wasn’t worth” what the country has since become, mourning the loss of freedom he and his friends fought and died for.

"Appearing on Good Morning Britain on Friday for a segment on the upcoming Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day on November 11th, Penstone was asked what the events commemorating fallen troops from the two World Wars meant, and what his message to the country now is. Far from the feel-good sentiments the piece had evidently been set up for, 100-year-old Penstone remarked: “I can see in my mind’s eye those rows and rows of white stones.

“ 'All the hundreds of my friends, everybody else, who gave their lives. For what? The country of today. No, I’m sorry, the sacrifice wasn’t worth the result that it is now.”  . . .

'What We're Up Against': Leavitt Highlights Media's Skewed Coverage of GOP During Schumer Shutdown

Katie Jerkovich

"The legacy media are clearly involved in a propaganda war against Republicans over the Schumer Shutdown, with the numbers showing overwhelmingly positive coverage for the Democrats compared to the GOP.

"In a post on Thursday on X, media bias tracker Newsbusters reported that outlets like ABC, CBS, and NBC have been completely carrying the water for the Democrats since they closed the government on October 1. And it's not even close.

"They noted that "on statements favoring Democrats," there have been 83 from the alphabet news outlets. In contrast, there were only 12 favorable statements for Republicans on those same networks.

"The Trump White House reacted to the analysis, with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt sharing the results on her X account.  She wrote, "This is what we are up against!" . . .

NEW STUDY: 87% of government shutdown coverage on ABC, CBS, and NBC favored Democrats.

The Biggest Winner of This Year’s Elections: Gavin Newsom

 Ellie Gardey Holmes

"Gavin Newsom just can’t help himself. He can’t quit claiming that he grew up underprivileged and in virtual poverty.

"This is despite the fact that he grew up as the surrogate son of billionaire Gordon Getty. All throughout his 20s, thanks to his bond with Getty, Newsom played the part of a playboy socialite from the upper crust of San Franciscan society. As a young man, Newsom also reaped the full benefits of Getty’s energetic intervention in launching his political career.

"Yet on Saturday, Newsom again trotted out his tale of woe and financial struggle during his childhood — something his political advisers have reportedly told him not to do. (RELATED: Gavin Newsom Plots Memoir to Recast Personal Scandals)

"In an appearance on the All the Smoke podcast, Newsom spoke of how his mother struggled while working several jobs to financially support him and his sister. Newsom has long pointed to his mother’s several jobs to portray himself as coming from a working-class background, even as his father, William Newsom III, worked as an attorney for the Getty family before becoming a state appellate judge. In his work for the Getty family, William Getty managed the Gordon P. Getty Family trust, which had a total value of $2 billion at the time. (Newsom’s parents divorced when he was young.)
" 'My mom was 19, pregnant, and divorced a few years later, with two kids,” Newsom said on the All the Smoke podcast Saturday. “Came from no money and just hustled. You know, worked hard, grinding every single day. Two and a half jobs, no bulls**t.”

"Newsom continued, “It was also about paying the bills, man. It was just like hustling, and so I was out there, kind of raising myself, turning on the TV, just getting obsessed. I was sitting there with the Wonder Bread.”

"Following conservative laughter at Newsom’s comments, a spokesman for the governor told Fox News, “Anyone with more than an inch of curiosity would know that Governor Newsom was raised by his mother after her divorce from his father when he was a toddler. He has talked about moving between two different worlds, but he was raised by a mother who worked three jobs at one point — secretary, waitress, and paralegal.”

"In my book, , I chronicled just how much Newsom’s life was shaped by his privilege, even as his father was apparently disinclined to provide adequate child support to the young mother of his two children." . . . More

‘Arctic Frost’ Should Spell The End For Judge Boasberg, Jack Smith, Merrick Garland

 Daily Caller

Broc Smith

. . . "News broke Wednesday with a series of revelations that outlined the Biden DOJ’s efforts to financially map, surveil and harass what amounts to the entirety of the conservative movement. They came as a result of a whistleblower sending Sen. Chuck Grassley internal documents related to Jack Smith, the Merrick Garland special counsel whose mission was to imprison Donald Trump.

"The documents lay out how nearly 200 subpoenas led to 430 individuals swept up in Smith’s surveillance efforts. Senators, Super Pacs, members of the media, media companies themselves. Even TPUSA was targeted. The RNC was targeted. Apple Computers was targeted!

"Attorney General Garland signed off. Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco signed off. FBI Director Chris Wray signed off.

The judge at the center of it all: Judge James “Injunctions” Boasberg of the DC Circuit Court. The same judge liberals have been running to every time they need to judicially stymie Trump’s agenda. The same judge, in fact, who gave disgraced FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith, who forged FISA warrants to surveil Trump, just a year probation for the crime.

“This was a concerted effort to ‘process is the punishment’ all of us, smear and ruin reputations, and invent fever dream justifications for possible crimes that didn’t exist. J Edgar Hoover could only dream of building something at this scale,” said Rachel Bovard, a VP at the Conservative Partnership Institute, which was also targeted in the dragnet.

"Words truly cannot express how deep this rabbit hole goes, and how lucky we are this administration did not get another four years. God knows what they would have done given another term with this power and access to this information.

"As a result of Smith’s legal demands, Chris Wray’s FBI had wiretapped almost as much as 20% of the Senate GOP’s phone lines.

Sen. Ted Cruz is calling for Boasberg’s impeachment. Sen. Eric Schmitt is calling for “Watergate-style hearings on this for MONTHS.”

"We need more than that though. We need indictments and convictions. We need Boasberg rendered utterly destitute and jammed into the same conditions as the J6 rioters.

"Think I’m joking? I decidedly am not. Boasberg has demonstrably done more to upset the Democratic process in America than any rock-throwing, MAGA-hat-wearing Trump voter ever did on J6.

"If justice is still balanced in this country, he’ll see a cell. Garland and Wray as well. If Roger Stone and Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro can go to jail, so can they." . . .

Dems Throw An Anti-Trump Temper Tantrum — Does It Matter?

  Issues & Insights

Nevertheless, these election losses do matter – and it’s something Trump and his fanbase can’t ignore.

"If Republicans had any hopes of scoring surprise election victories on Tuesday, they were absolutely crushed. The loss was sweeping.

"In New Jersey and Virginia, the Republican candidates did worse than Donald Trump just one year ago. And in Virginia, Democrats picked up at least 10 seats in the state legislature. New York elected its most radical mayor in its history. Californians voted by an almost 3-to-1 margin to redraw the state’s districts to squeeze out five more seats for Democrats.

"All of these elections had one thing in common – they were akin to a primal scream about President Donald Trump.

"After 10 months of nonstop, fact-free shrieking — that

  • Trump is wrecking the economy (the latest GDPNow estimate from the Atlanta Fed shows the economy growing 4% last quarter),tariffs would spike inflation (prices rose 3% last month, which is lower than almost any month during the Biden administration),
  • the world would devolve into chaos (Trump has resolved more global conflicts this year than Biden or Obama combined),
  • democracy is threatened (a claim this week’s elections disproved),
  • and that Trump is gutting the federal government (spending is up almost across the board),

— voters in these states turned out to vent. Congratulations.

"But so what?

"It’s no surprise that Republicans lost these elections. Since 2000, only four Republicans have won statewide elections in Virginia. In New Jersey, only two have done so. Anyone with half a brain — and who was likely to vote for a Republican — had already abandoned New York City for less socialist climes. Other cities that elected Democratic mayors this week haven’t seen a Republican in the mayor’s office in decades. (It’s been 153 since Atlanta had one.) California is a hopelessly one-party state.

"And the sad truth is that the people in those areas will suffer from the inept, corrupt, radical leaders they’ve elected.

"Plus, the more Democrats hyper-focus on Trump, the more of a disservice they do to themselves. After all, Trump won’t be on the ballot in 2028, and all their claims about the country devolving into an autocracy will be a laugh line. They will have nothing to offer voters, other than hatred of Trump." . . . More...

Gotta love this Israeli-produced parody of Mamdani

BareNakedIslam

"As we know, every great parody is based on the truth. Israeli satire show “Eretz Nehederet” airs a sketch mocking NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani."

Dearborn's Democrat rep in Congress
Did you know that in Dearborn, Michigan, Muslim girls can get beheaded and nobody says a thing?    "RAIR FoundationIn November 2021, Abdullah Hammoud made history as the first Arab-American and Muslim elected as mayor of Dearborn. Just a year later, in 2022, he elevated Issa Shahin to become the city’s first Muslim police chief. Shahin is the 47-year-old son of an Egyptian father and Albanian mother, married to a Jordanian-American woman. He now controls Dearborn’s law enforcement arm.

"Together, Hammoud and Shahin represent a historic shift: both of Dearborn’s most powerful offices, political and police, are held by Muslim men deeply tied to a very controversial Islamic community. And that fact matters, because under their leadership, a troubling pattern has emerged. Non-Muslims are punished for reckless words, while Muslims are shielded when they chant open incitement." . . .

Maybe Karine should give up on this book

Silvio Canto, Jr.

"Watching former Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre promote her book is hard. It's obvious that no one is buying her arguments. Did she really believe that the public would buy accept that stuff about President Biden being in top form? Or are we watching yet another person who spent so much time in the "bubble" that she couldn't see what all of us were seeing?

"The latest stop in the book tour did not go well. Let's check that out:

"Former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was grilled on Tuesday about her new book and decision to leave the Democratic Party.

"Podcaster Van Lathan spoke with Jean-Pierre about her decision to leave the Democratic Party as well as her new book, "Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines."

"During her book tour, Jean-Pierre said the title's reference to a "broken" White House referred to the Trump administration, not the Biden administration.

" You know, I saw that you said that when you meant a ‘broken’ White House that you don't mean the Biden White House, that you mean the Trump White House. Nobody believes that," Lathan said.

" 'Well, because the book was written to be in the moment," Jean-Pierre responded. "When you read the book, you'll see that I'm talking about what's happening right now and meeting the moment. I mean, people didn't believe that because they want a tell-all, right? I think people… they assume the book was going to be I'm telling secrets, and I'm not. The book doesn't have secrets in it. The book is literally talking about my experience."

"Jean-Pierre argued the book had far more depth in terms of talking about the current moment in the country.

"There was nothing in your opinion that was broken about the Biden White House?" Lathan pressed further.

"Even liberal hosts are not buying it. It didn't go well again because people are not stupid. Everybody could see that the former President had lost his fastball. He was struggling to answer questions. Eventually, everything hit the fan when the nation saw him on TV debating President Trump and looking horrible.

"KJP may have been a loyal team player. However, you can't let your loyalty isolate you from the reality that we were all seeing. I think that her book would have been better received if she had been more honest about her failures and the media's willingness to cover things up.

"As for leaving the Democrat Party, honestly, who cares? It doesn't make her more sincere. It's just a cheap excuse to look "independent" when she was not.

"So good luck, KJP. Maybe there is another book that you can work on, because this one is not working for you."

New York’s Elderly Jews Torn Between Man Who Would Kill Them For Being Jewish And Man Who Would Kill Them For Being Elderly

"NEW YORK CITY, NY — The elderly Jewish community is reportedly at a crossroads this Election Day, torn between a man who would kill them for being Jewish and a man who would kill them for being elderly.
" 'Mamdani wants me dead for being Jewish," said Estelle Goldberg, a rabbi's wife. "But Cuomo would shove me in a nursing home infected with COVID and refuse to admit me to the hospital."

Zohran Mamdani Horrified To Discover He Now Has A Job

"NEW YORK, NY — In the wake of his overwhelming election win that signalled a dramatic political shift in the United States, New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani was reportedly horrified to wake up this morning and discover that he now had a job.

The Ugandan-born socialist won a landslide victory on Tuesday over former Governor Andrew Cuomo, Republican Curtis Sliwa, and common sense, only to come to the stunning realization that he would now have to work.

"I didn't think this through," Mamdani reportedly told one of his aides. "I was all excited about the campaign and wanted to win, but I got so caught up in the competition that I didn't stop to think that I would end up, you know, having a job. This is terrible."

Promising handouts and government-provided living necessities built a tremendous following for Mamdani, though he now found himself in the unenviable position of not being able to just sit at home and do nothing like his supporters. "I didn't know I would have to like… do stuff," . . .

Zohran Mamdani Just Delivered One of the Most Horrifying Quotes Ever From a Politician – Twitchy

“We will prove that there is no problem too large for government to solve and no concern too small for it to care about.”  Why is there standing water on your lawn?
The Kids Have Delivered Mamdani, but the Adults Will Be Required to Handle the Results to Come – RedState
. . . "Mamdani is the youngest mayor of the city in a century, and it is his contemporaries who have driven him into office. That is to say, those with the least amount of political experience and wisdom were swayed by the promises of this wunderkind. The people with a sparse voting record that matches Mamdani’s lack of a professional resume have placed him in charge of the biggest city, and disaster only looms.". . .

. . . "What these voters fail to do is look deeper into these issues. If these heart-swelling policies are so wondrous, did any of them ask why these have not been implemented before? Have they not considered that the buses and subways will become rolling homeless shelters? Did none of them see the city-operated grocer that recently failed in Missouri? And what about the application of pragmatism to these proposals?

Mamdani has frequently been shown to have fractured interpretations of fiscal policies. He plans to raise $9 billion by hiking taxes on billionaires, saying the municipal rate is still lower than most other cities'. He chooses to omit that this exists on top of an existing state tax, meaning the rich face higher rates. Analysts have used this same subterfuge by claiming examples of other hikes on the wealthy have proven successful elsewhere, but they are using statewide examples applied to proposals confined to a city.

His promise of free childcare up to five years of age, with providers paid at the same level as teachers, is so expensive that his campaign estimates costs could run as high as $20,000 per child, and $6 billion to operate. This would constitute two-thirds of the new tax revenue he plans to rake in – for just one of his programs. Now factor in that the city has been operating with a budget deficit of $5-7 billion the past few years, and these plans look even more ridiculous.
